  • Lisa Gade reviews the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 Android tablet. The TF700 has an HD 1920 x 1200 IPS + display with Gorilla Glass 2. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on a 1.6GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core CPU with 1 gig DDR 3 RAM and 32 or 64 gigs of storage. It has WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and a GPS that work well. The tablet works with the optional keyboard dock that transforms the TF700 into a notebook form factor device. It has USB host, micro HDMI and a microSD card slot. It starts at $499 US. A much improved follow up to the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime! Read our full written review here: www.mobiletechr...

    Unfortunately, that's the only USB host adapter and it is something that could easily stress the port if it's knocked :( I haven't heard any word on an LTE model.

    Yes, we have the Nexus 7 in house, so we'll have a review soon. It has a really lovely display BTW!

  • @mobiletechreview
    @mobiletechreview  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It stays in the TF700 port, but it also stays fine in my Prime and TF300 port. Maybe your adapter is a little off?

  • @mobiletechreview
    @mobiletechreview  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think you'll have two wait 2 more months to get the Infinity TF700, or are you in a country that's not due to get it soon?

  • @mobiletechreview
    @mobiletechreview  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been using the Infinity with my Prime dock and it works perfectly. The new TF700 dock apparently still says TF201 on the back and identifies itself as a TF201 dock! So I'm really not sure why Asus says the Prime dock isn't compatible.

  • @mobiletechreview
    @mobiletechreview  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Which is more useful to you: keyboard dock or the pen?

  • @mobiletechreview
    @mobiletechreview  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No rubber plugs. Apparently Asus found that folks couldn't figure out that they needed to remove those plugs before attaching the dock (really?!). I do think the holes are little unsightly.

  • @mobiletechreview
    @mobiletechreview  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't mind the placement of the Transformer Prime's headphone jack, but I didn't like the fragile port design with part of the plug connector exposed which could lead to accidental shorting and thus loud noise being sent to the headphones. The port is a but more sturdy but the plug is still somewhat exposed unfortunately.

    Yes, we'll do a comparison between the TF700 and new iPad.

    Finally a great and comprehensive review of the TF700T. Mine arrives on Tuesday. I'll see how it compares to my new Nexus 7 and Google Nexus phone. Love your backyard! Here in Arizona we don't have water or green stuff, so it's nice to see. Take care of your hand, we're depending on it to show us a bunch more cool stuff. You're a real pro, it's a delight and always informative to watch your reviews, and to read the full reviews. You get a GEM+ rating.

    Speaker volume is low. Headphone audio quality and volume are very good. I'm using the Prime TF201 keyboard dock with my TF700.

    You have to use the dongle for USB host.

    This is one of the best reviews that I have seen on You Tube. Lisa speaks very clearly, and covers a great deal of the items that a buyer wants to know. She really ran it through it's paces. I saw enough to convince me that I will likely buy this later this year. Will definitely watch any review that she makes in the future. Lisa should be making commercials for ASUS, since she can sell the product about as well as anybody else that I have seen.

    You can download Adobe Flash from the Android Market until Aug. 15 for new installations. After that supposedly it will be taken off the market for those who haven't already got it in their account. Jelly Bean 4.1 devices don't get flash from the Google Play Store though.

    Thanks for the review Lisa. I went to the Plano Best Buy today, and will have it Saturday August 4th, so the backlog isn't as severe as I had thought. I appreciate the thorough review. I was really disappointed with the TF201, and Best Buy was extremely helpful in giving a store credit under manufacturers warranty. That's amazing considering I bought it in Dec 2011 and did not purchase an extended warranty! Nice to have tech guru in the neighborhood!

    We will do a new iPad vs. TF700 smackdown. But the Acer A700 already went back to Acer (bummer). But the Acer A700 wouldn't have done well against the other two.

    I used my tf101 as my primary school computer because it's a hell of a lot more portable than my 17" mac pro and I absolutely love it. Going to school for nursing has me typing about 6 pages full of notes in about 2 hours for some classes and it had a few faults but nothing problematic. The Polaris office is awesome and the only thing to remember is to turn off the track pad...
    Long story short, I'm getting a tf700 to replace my mac and tf101 because the tf101 flew off the roof of my car =D

    You are right the speakers on the TF300 and 700 are terrible however there is a fix for it. There is probably an equivalent on Windows but on Mac there is an APP called "Boom." and you drag your video or audio file in the program and boost the volume in a sense overclocking the volume so it can be heard on the tablet. Works like a charm.

    OH MY GOSH! I was thinking of buying an Infinity to replace my current tablet, and wanted to know whether or not the tablet without the dock could power my USB 3.0 My Passport 1TB HDD. I could not get a straight answer. Many people said it would work, but even more said that the tablet port will not power the HDD. Others said it will work, but were actually referring to the dock. THANKS SO MUCH for providing a CLEAR answer and even demo-ing it!!

    Microcenter and Best Buy have TF700 docks. I'm still happy with my TF201 Prime dock so I probably won't buy the new model.

    You'll love it when you get it, other Eric. The hard drive on my laptop went out on my shortly before I ordered the TF700T. I could replace it and install the hard drive myself for around $60, but now that I've gotten to use my tablet, I'm going to save my money for now. It does everything I want to do away from the house.
    Since it's smaller it's better for me to "snuggle" up with it (chair, bed, walking around house). I've unlocked and put a custom ROM on it as well, if you're interested.

    I'll be receiving a 64Gb model tomorrow morning. This video is getting me really excited to use my new toy. So glad that I did my research before I just went out and bought whatever. Had to pick between this and the Nexus 10. I think I made the right decision. It seems like this tablet and it's dock are the best option, right now, imo...

  • @LarsBjerregaard

    It does get warm on the back upper-left with heavy/intense use, but I wouldn't call it "bad heating" - it's not uncomfortable or worrying. In normal use it's very cool.

    Thanks Lisa for the review! I was in between the Acer Iconia Tab A700 and this new Asus Infinity TF700. I think the choice is obvious, for the superb HD screen and the smoothness of response. Pity for we have to wait till Aug 31 for Europe, but hey maybe I'll find a friend and purchase one for me from the US for the price of $499! :)

    you should really set your camera such that the brightest parts of the screen aren't full of blown-out highlights manually before starting recording on your mobile devices, such as the shot at 2:34 for example. super blown out whites on the clouds on that wallpaper, and i an barely read that widget on the left.

    *Very* good review Lisa. Of course I bought my Infinity before I saw your review, and largely agree with it. I'm enjoying mine quite a bit so far. The screen really is *amazing*. The downside of course is, that every single white pixel kills the battery, as with all other AMOLED displays. So lots of bright white background for a long time, can really kill the battery, if you don't watch out, and manually tweak the lightsetting, which I do. Otherwise - great device so far.

    IMO, better than the iPad. True multi-tasking; drag and drop movies/music straight to the tablet without having to use a program like iTunes, you can download torrents straight to the tablet with an app, you dont have to convert videos to .mp4 format, the camera is 8mp better than the iPads, and expandable memory is also a great feature. the screen is fantastic. Aside from the poor speaker placement, its truly great, especially with the dock. I haven't used my laptop since buying the Infinity.

    Just got mine yesterday and I can confirm it plays .avi videos as well as .mkv with subtitles if any. I had to download an app I used previously called MX Player. For the .mkv files it played without having to change anything but for the .avi I had to change one thing, that is, when I played the video on the top right it says H/W just change it to S/W and it works. Keep in mind I tested 3 different avi videos and 2 out of the 3 I did NOT have to change from H/W to S/W, just something to note.

    The only problem is that Android doesn't have many 1920x1200 apps so very few apps can use Infinity's high resolution. Now that Amazon released their own 1920x1200 Kindle Fire HD tablet, hopefully more apps will be optimized for this resolution.

    I got the tf300t a month ago, and honestly I don't feel as bummed as I thought I would. I could've gotten the prime but the wireless issues made me go toward the 300. I love asus tablets, I almost went to an iPad as well, but I honestly believe these are better tablets. Anyone on the fence about an asus tablet or an iPad, you can't go wrong with either but personally I'd go for the asus. This is coming from an apple fan :)

    Is the Dock connector on the bottom of the tablet the same power connector that is on the side of the keyboard? I'm wondering if I can put the tablet into the keyboard and then plug the USB adapter into the side of the keyboard.
    What I would like to do is use the tablet to move images from SD cards to a HD. I do a lot of photo/video work & being able to use the tablet (rather than a laptop) to do this would be fantastic.
