  • Join me again as I fish the warm, clear inshore waters around Exmouth, on WA’s North West Cape, while walking and wading the shoreline. This style of fishing is such a blast… and it's readily available to anyone!

    TRAVEL STATS:
    We made the road trip to Exmouth from the far south coast of NSW in a 2006 Toyota HiLux (petrol auto) with around 388,000 km on clock at departure. Limiting our top speed to between 100 and 110 km/h we averaged just a whisker over 13 litres/100 km, which isn’t too bad considering the age of the vehicle and the load on board: including tents, rod tubes, etc on the roof racks. Here are the full stats for our journey:
    Total kilometres: 5,222.1
    Total fuel consumed: 683.1 L
    Average fuel consumption: 13.08 L/100km
    Total fuel cost: $1,389.42
    Av. cost of ULP: $2.03/L
    Fuel stops: 15
    Av. Fuel added per stop: 45.54L
    Nights spent on road: 7
    Av. Distance/day: 746km

    Hi Starlo, really enjoyed your videos at Exmouth. A long drive to catch some fish! Thanks for sharing the different methods you were using and the thinking behind them. That really helps us understand how you go about catching fish. All the best. Regards MP

    One thing about a true anglers such as yourself starlo is your excitement of just going fishing and exploring the environment around you... even though I live in Gladstone Central Qld where we have big fish every where from big barra in lake Awoonga ..thru to big golden trevs etc on the channel markers out to big red emperors on the reef.. coral trout etc... big fingermark in the harbour..I specialise in barra and fly fishing for golden trevs and big permit on the flats off facing island ..but sometimes I just love grabbing my 7'3 Jarvis walker El cheap rod with my quality 2000 shimano spin reel and heading down to the local marina for a quick fix with fresh strip baits on a 1 or 2.0 circle hook with next to no weight drifting down the pylons for bream trevally cod jacks quennies. . So simple and rewarding.. after work or rainy windy days. . I've fished for marlin off coffs harbour drummer off the rocks spinning for tailor and beach fishing for Jew fish... they all have their challenges and excitement and some guys only fish for Murray cod or only spend hours and money on the elusive marlin or only drive out to the reef in big boats... that's OK but like you I enjoy angling were ever I am and adapt to the environment and just enjoy the simple pleasures of back to basics bait fishing like a little jetty rat... never loose touch with just going fishing in the creek (salt water or fresh) camping with the family and showing the kids the basics... I love your Vids cause you keep it real and unpretentious ..

    What a lovely mixed catch in a relaxed and enjoyable video. I think Exmouth is now going to be on fishers destination lists. It looks a beautiful place. Thanks! When I wade in salt water environments like this, I often use a switch or spey rod with sink tip and a(approx.) 9 foot fluorocarbon leader (no tippet) attaching the fly with a surgeons loop. This fly set up allows me to cast longer, which can be helpful in clear water and on windy days. Using a bait holder hook, I have also fly fished with small or trimmed squidgies on occasions. And yes, it works!

      @StarloGetsReel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! Yes, a Switch rod can be really handy in those situations.

    Great video Starlo! Always fun having a cast in a marina as they attract so many different species, even if the bigger fish are generally a bit more shy. Fantastic location too, hoping to get up there one day for a fish as well

    Love seeing the landbased stuff as that's all I do as I don't have a boat haha! Caught a few decent fish here in SA landbased including elephant fish (shark). Thanks for your continuous effort in bringing out top videos! Tight lines Starlo!

    Starlight, what’s with the cap, the beard, the sunnies? In other words, years ago we new it was you, now you appear to be hiding your face?

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm. Well, I’ve had the beard for 40-odd years now, and have always worn a cap and sunnies while fishing, so I’m a tad confused? Maybe you have me confused with someone else? And at my age, with getting a few new little skin cancer precursors frozen off every year, I’m not about to hit the water uncovered. Sorry.
