    Good to see the Lake producing so well. Great catches. I used to target bream off Pulbah Island, the home to some biggies. I would target jewfish in Newcastle Harbour, casting out behind vessels entering or leaving the harbour (back in the 90s). The churning water from the propellers stimulated feeding. Caught some beauties this way. Excellent vid!

    Awesome work Steve!
    Last year at Jerseyville on the Macleay River I ended up with a personal record of eight Mullaway on soft vibes in two hours thanks to a slow tide change, only schoolies but when it takes seven years trying to learn how to catch them I can’t complain, now ever time I head out I catch at least one nearly every trip now.

      Yeah great management , send all the pros from a gigantic system like lake Mac & send them all down to the diminutive Tuggerah lakes system , we have observed those “ new “ professionals ring netting the weed beds with nets inside the channel ( illegal ) then them in the middle banging oars on their boats making sure they scare every last fish into the nets , something not done by the generations of existing pros fishing this system , these newbys don’t give a rats about the next generations of pros or rec fisherman to come . We have been keen recreational fishos on the Tuggerah lakes/entrance fishery since the late 80’s & although all seasons are different & a lot depends on the entrance channel being open to the sea for many species including blue swimmer crabs & prawns , in general , after many years of angling catch records , it is definitely showing a downward trend over time in species like dusky flathead . Lake Mac must have had a “ bigger voice “ or political clout to oust the pros from there & then by contrast Tuggerah had no say , keep chanting the great fishing & fisheries management you have been handed , whilst we will bemoan what they have done to what was once a little gem of a fishery on the verge of destruction by the powers that be , tight lines to you , now far more often in your neck of the woods than ours.

    Epic day. Multiple species and non stop action. Here in South Africa we have a river called the breede river. (wide river translated) home to massive jewfish (unfortunately not as many as there used to be) as well as a large population of bull sharks. Google the river and cob (our name for this species) as well we have good populations of a fish called a spotted grunter. A highly sought after recreational fish. Very good to catch. A shy and timid fish that is a good fighter. They can be seen early mornings and evenings with their tails out of the water jetting mouthfuls of water down mud prawns u shaped burrows to expel the filter feeding prawns from their burrows on the mud flats at high tide. A beautiful fish and equally delicious. Highly prized amongst anglers. Thank you

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for that! Yes, I've read about South African cob and your fascinating spotted grunter, which are related to our javelin fish (also sometimes called grunter). I will definitely study up on the Breede... sounds like a great waterway! Tight Lines.

      We eat PLENTY of fish, as you’ll see if you watch many of my videos. But we only take what we can use and always stick to the rules. Several of the tailor were kept and eaten. The mulloway were under-sized.
