Nice move changing it up on lure and location.works wonders some times. Id love to crack a 50cm bream.biggest is 45cm off the rocks RNP near wattamolla on cunjie
Enjoyed that one Starlo. Gee I haven’t eaten a flounder in years. They used to be popular on the counter teas years ago. Best bream fishing I’ve ever had was at Tamboon Inlet probably 45 years ago. I suppose you have fished in there?😊
so many quality tackle items that simply work get dropped by manufacturers like the early small shinmano bait runners and the softies like flick baits. see collectors looking for them all the time, those in the know understand. I still have my 25 year old loomis IMX rods , Ian miller bream busters, and a selection of softies and resin heads plus 20 year old luvias and earlier gold SS reels the first expensive high end threadlines I sold.
Yep. It's very much a numbers game these days and the bean counters rule. If sales volumes aren't consistently high, products get ditched. Just a fact of life these days, unfortunately.
Weren't as far off for podium as predicted but you never know with these things it may have done or few lucky buggers get em around 50 and not even close, still some nice fish & those bonus tailor nice👍🏻honestly id have smack em too why try getting lucky at the end of the day when something is infront of you🙂
Heey starlo You mentioned flick baits and there not made anymore . Are these a certain type of soft plastic . Im only just starting to try soft plastics myself
Yes, they were an early Squidgy model. Not made any more, but there are other "fluke-style" plastics on the market. They're all fairly straight, with little inbuilt action. If you're just getting started you'd be better to stick to curly tail grubs and T-tailed shad style plastics with built-in actions, I reckon.
Hi Starlo would you recommend using 000 lure snaps or any small lure snaps when targeting bream & whitting for quick lure changes ? as retying my loop knots are annoying though I’m not sure if using snap will affect the bites sensitivity. Thanks tight lines 🎣👍👌
I'm personally not a huge fan of snaps or clips. I've seen most fail at one time or another (usually on a BIG fish!), and they do also impact the overall "finesse "of smaller lures rigged on lighter tackle. That said, I do occasionally use one. The only ones I trust are the Mustad Fastach clips. Bottom line is, if you can avoid them, do so, but if you must use one, choose a small, discrete and STRONG one.
I use them bass fishing when I'm only using a single rod bass are super aggressive thou and never use them on soft plastics except if the plastic is attached to a spinner but otherwise I avoid them
PS don't use the one's with swivels I use the decoy clips handy when you know the fish are there and want that quick change until they attack something👍🏻
Sometimes I talk about locations, where it’s relevant, but more often than not my videos are about the techniques and tackle used rather than the specific location. Those tactics are widely applicable across a multitude of waters. I also avoid naming smaller, more sensitive waters that may suffer from increased fishing pressure, or spots I’ve been shown by other people. I believe this is simply a matter of courtesy and respect. 👍
I have a DARE for you to see how good you are at fishing. Rockingham sailing yacht jetty. 24 herring starting from 10 am to 5pm and if you can do that you will forever be my number 1. I bag out all the time but I only fish from 3am to 4am because I have a secret burly and my dare must be on a super calm day. No wind at all and clear water and I can bag. From a Aitutaki Cook Islander
I caught a 62cm tailor last year live baiting for Jewie my mate was extremely excited as "I was like calm down let me land the bloody thing 1st" as I'm not a seasoned tailor fisho & mate is I could tell he was slightly disappointed I beat his pb of 61cm as his chased them for nearly 40yrs🤣
Yes, hasn't been great down here, either. But changing the date is no guarantee, and May might be getting a little late for many of the southern states.

its the right time of the year for the big ones up around hawks and lake mac. I normally get them on 2" plastics or cranks under hulls
Sure is!
Great video Steve thanks mate for the excellent content 👍🎣

Cheers! Believe it or not I've never been to Tamboon! It's on the list, though.
@@StarloGetsReelok it’s probably changed from 45 years ago?😊

I've found that if it's cold, a hood is great for keeping things comfortable.
I'm not a long haired youngster any more. 😂
Yes, should've put my jacket on!
I'm having an out of hair experience so beanies & hoodies at a whiff of a chill🤣

Exactly! Yes, I was surprised at the winning sizes this year. Probably a reflection of the crook weather in many regions, especially on the Saturday.
Hey Starlo love your Bream videos, do you have any tips on how to find more of them land based?
Cheers! Much the same as finding them from a boat or kayak, just a little more limited, I guess.
seems to me bream were simply elsewhere probably deep water on bait or in upper reaches on rock bars maybe?
Could well be.
Heey starlo

Biggest black bream I’ve caught was 68cm
Wow! Never heard of one that big. That'd easily be the all-time Australian record. Love to see a photo. Well done!
Well that's a lie haha 68cm Black Bream 😅
@@johnathonLawrence it was on 4lb line and took 2 hours to land😂
@@Thisislivinbarry84don't be silly
50 cm bream would be a dime a dozen if the professional fisherman didn't net the shit out of every thing 👍
Not sure about a dime a dozen but yes, there’d be a few more around without netting, for sure.
A lot of systems arent netted, they don't produce 50cm bream constantly, if at all
@@robberlin2230 thought there might be👍

Cracking bream session. Please explain what tackle to target bream!

Where can you fish in this comp and is there a land based section
Anywhere in Australia, land-based, kayak, boat or whatever. It'll be on again next year. Go to: pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au/

Hi Steve , for the last 5 years now i think the Pirtek has been a wipeout weather wise in SE QLD, wish they would move it to late may.
Yes, hasn't been great down here, either. But changing the date is no guarantee, and May might be getting a little late for many of the southern states.
Great vid mate, love all the extra camera angles and underwater stuff! Good to see the bream are still firing there! :)
Cheers mate!
Hey Starlo .
Thanks for the amazing video Question
I also
Cut the fin off the riggler as I think the hook sits better is there a reason you cut it off
Same, and to reduce the overall profile. Not always, though.
LOL, Steve! Cold and blowing a gale yet you're out on deck casting away all day barefooted!
Pretty much!
Nothing more Australian than a slightly cool morning, gently lapping water as the sun comes up to do some fishing.
Yep.
You got this Starlbro!!!🙌🎣
🤣 I wish!
