Hi Jewel, no I couldn't turn the cake over, if you look closer, the cake has a mound on top, if you turn it over it wouldn't lay flat unless you leveled it. :) The mound lends itself nicely for the shape of the face so I didn't want to level it. Or another method would be to use 2 8-inch cake pans with cake strips around them, which when it bakes there isn't a mound. Then stack with with frosting in between the layers then trim out the shape of the face. But then again there are several ways that you can shape a cake. :)
My daughter is obsessed with Spider-Man and no bakeries have eggless cake ingredients my son is allergic and I want him to be able to celebrate with us I’m glad I came across this video
@@kellyjohn26 Great! :) Yeah it is fairly expensive here too. I think it was 10 dollars just for the red fondant, and then 5 dollars a piece for small packages of white and black fondant. $20 US Dollars for fondant not including the cake is fairly expensive, I think. haha. Then add the cake board, I think I spent around $25 total. Which is more then the normal 3 to 4 dollars I spend with other cakes. haha. Sometimes fondant goes on sale here, which is nice.
Hello Kay! I don't remember exactly which one I used it has been so long since I made this cake. lol but if you pick one of these you should be fine: www.google.com/search?q=spiderman+face+template&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=8RFSQGseg7xK8M%253A%252CaF31TUnpGIPNeM%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kSA0YXCJgiOWv7Y_bct6JdqQq1MUQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjx6J__q7nhAhW-HjQIHa0nBAMQ9QEwBnoECAYQEA#imgrc=_&vet=1
Hi there, that is called Fondant. :) Very popular for cake decorating. If it is not available where you live, you can make homemade fondant out of marshmallows with this video th-cam.com/video/s2lx_B01pLs/w-d-xo.html
Hi Sara, no it shouldn't fall off. Just use a tiny bit of water as the "glue" and it should be fine. :) I would cover the cake with plastic wrap loosely to help keep it from drying out. :)
In The Kitchen With Matt , it took me about 2.5 hours to do the decorating all up, I'm not sure if it should have taken that long but it is my first ever time decorating with fondant so I was super careful. I didn't do black fondant for the webbing and used an edible black marker instead. Other then that, i followed your instructions to the letter and I'm really happy with the result. The birthday boy is yet to wake up and see it for himself but I'm pretty sure he'll love it. Thanks again Matt. See it for yourself: th-cam.com/video/yHLLaVCTQno/w-d-xo.html
Sharon!!! That is awesome well done!! It looks great! :) Yes it does take a little longer to make, but that makes it so much better! :) I am sure the birthday boy will love it! Let me know his reaction! :)
Good luck!! :) you could also use a black edible marker to draw on the lines, it may be easier then using the black fondant for the lines, totally up to you. :) Please feel free to message me if you have questions and I will try and answer as soon as possible. :)
This looks amazing! Well done.
Thank you so much!! :)

That was cool Matt.
Thank you! I really appreciate it! :)
When made the cake I used black food dye for the web cause I didn't want it to be bumpy
Very nice!! Yeah some people might prefer to just use web paint to do the eyes, and webbing. I like the fondant, but both are great ways! :)
