    My 2 Tevo Tornados are still rocking prints! Bought them brand new in 2017. Truly a great machine.

    If you want to make it into a lamp I think you should print a few more of different sizes and hang them on the lights of one of those big floorlamps that has a bunch of adjustable arms! It'll look like an alien jungle flower! Maybe have something hanging out of them like pistils.

    it looks like tevo payed attention to the build plate criticism cause i just ordered one and got it in the mail and it has a nice glass build plate that already had the test print on it for some reason that was nice to pull off only for me to print it again.

    Keep your bed at 35-40c to remove parts! At room temps it's surely stick like crazy. Give it a try, it saved my PEI bed from "glued" ABS (buildtak is quite similar to PEI)

      I started a print of the spool holder, that came with the printer, using PETG and it stuck fast. Increased the plate temperature to 40 Dec C, and with a little prying using the spatula that was supplied, and the print just pealed off. Now to find out why I got an Error 5 3hrs 40Min into a 10 Hr print.

    Nice review! I feel so spoiled having been 3d printing for about 3 years now and never having to level a bed on my Lulzbot mini, then again 3 years ago that set me back $1200 for small 6 inch cube build area. I want a cheaper and bigger printer as well, but I keep getting pulled in by fancy new features like all the cool stuff on the Prusas, that self leveling / centering and quad filament setup has me drooling so much!

    • @DA-jw6nm

    Hey for your next vid would you consider reviewing the monoprice select v2? I received one as my first printer an would love to see a review of it from you, as what I've found online isn't all that helpful and I'm struggling just a teeny weeny bit. Or could you do a "beginners guide to 3D printing" type thing? Then you could make a more broad series regarding people who are new to printing, cause a channel such as yours probably attracts a lot of them (I mean this in a good way). If you read this, just know that I love your channel so much and that it is one of the main reasons I've gotten into 3D printing. Thank you!

  • @Crits-Crafts

    did you change your intro music? Or is it just because I can actually hear it on my new headphones?
    Oh, and seriously, you should consider an acrylic build plate for pla or flexibles. Because it'll flex, it makes popping prints off really easy :)

    Mine arrived about a week ago, had to order the EU plug one because the US plug code expired. Works just the same, even came with an EU to US adapter but I just ended up using an extra weird face plug to mains outlet adapter I had laying around. Took less than an hour to get my first print running. It prints TPU more reliably than my Wanhao I3. I did a 10 hour print using sainsmart tpu at 35mm/s with 0 issue at all, even accidentally didn't disable retraction and still worked. Great printer, I plan on replacing the stepper drivers with Trinamic 2130s to make silent.

      Also the SD card that came with it was trash and some files would just make the printer restart because of it. Fixed it with a cheap 4 dollar SD card from frys.

    Hello! Also became a lucky owner of the Tornado and several questions appeared at once: 1) How to change the filament from one color to another? 2) Is it possible to do this when printing? If possible, then how to move the extruder from the model, fill another filament color, return the extruder to the print position and continue printing?

    You could totally create a large ocean scene with some sort of sea creature attacking the tons and tons of benchy prints you've made, after all, you've gotta have quite a few at this point. Plus you already have a large whale model as well :)

In many places I see that this is happening often and most recommend installing smoothers. Any thoughts?

    I don't know if it'll work on that build surface, but when I want to remove particularly stubborn stuck prints on PEI, I spray a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the edges of the print. Doing this with PLA will have it almost instantly self release, and doing it with PETG makes the removal super easy, even on large surface area prints.

  • @WaltonPete
    @WaltonPete 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With a PEI print surface you can add a thin layer of glue stick to make removing prints much easier, also making sure the bed has properly cooled can make quite a difference.
    I think you should print another matching vase and you could turn them into earrings!

    How come the prints in your videos always look better than other reviews I see? Even reviews on the same printer... Are you using certain settings to make them look smoother? Prints always look super imperfect on other videos, like stripes all the way down the side of a print.
    Is it the plastic you use? The speed? Layer height? If anybody knows, please tell me!

    I have owned a Tornado for a little over 3 months now, I have to say it does print well when it works but it suffers from being built with poor quality components and I have had several issues because of that. Some examples are:
    -The controller box knob was poorly made, had to be removed to properly use the rotary encoder
    -The bowden tube connector failed, rendering the printer unusuable - had to purchase replacement myself
    -The kapton tape used on the hot end pulled apart, leaving the hot end uninsulated - purchased aluminium tape to solve this
    -The controller box fan is failing already (grinding sound)
    -The 8 pin connector for the hot end harness pulled apart because of poor quality
    -Tevo made a revision (around november 2017) to their board using cloned stepper drivers component that no longer works with diode smoothers
    Some of these issues are minor, it just gives an overall impression of poor build quality.
    I've contacted Tevo regarding these issue and got no response (in over a month), therefor you can expect to purchase this "as is" with no support or warranty from the manufacture. The facebook group often speaks of their lack of support aswell.
    That being said, it's a great entry level printer and a good learning experience if you have the patience to troubleshoot and deal with quality related issues. It makes for a nice foundation for upgrades if you're willing to spend it's price equivalent on upgrades.

    Thanks for the review; I found one of these on craigslist and searched for a review and found your video that way; very useful and actionable information. I have wanted a 3D printer for a good while now; but have been slow to pull the trigger since there is so many models out there; the one I found come with the following items for $350:
    Raspberry Pi with Octopi.
    Web cam.
    All required cables and connections.
    All original items shipped with Tevo included.
    Several rolls of filament.
    Case and 3.5 inch touch screen included with Raspberry Pi.
    Bed leveler attachment.
    What would you say; is fair market value? I am still trying to get smart in this area; I build and create a lot; and offen have to make my own parts or try to find something to modify to fit the need. I am also interested in the material used to make the parts, and what there tolerance is for heat, strength and weather. Any information is helpful .. thanks.
    Peace

    What is your first layer height? AFAIK for all buildplate surface sheets like yours the first layer can not be lower than 0.2mm. I usually print at around 0.22-0.25 for the first layer depending on the surface area. Your logos might have needed 0.3 - 0.35mm.

    Hello! Just found this review of the Tornado. I'm looking into my first endeavor into 3D printing and wanted to ask you some advice/suggestions. I am really wanting an SLA resin printer kit in the 2k range like the peopley moai, for the resolution you can get. But I am thinking starting with FDM to get started now and more quickly due to cheaper costs, learn more about tuning, G-code, slicing ect and would an more affordable way to get this experience. Do you agree? or do you think SLA is an entirely different daemon, and if I want to go that route..just to wait a little while and start there? I consider my self software and tech capable so I consider these challanges ...part of the experience. I plan on using these printers mainly to print components for my other hobbies, Rc hobbies..planes/drones, shooting sports, miniatures, house hold DIY items ...nick nacks for the kids ect. What would you do if you had to choose a route?

    • @make.anything
      @make.anything  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would agree that you can learn a lot from FDM before getting into SLA. Sure they have their differences but there's also a lot that you can transfer over. For the hobbies you mentioned you might actually find FDM more useful as I think it's more appropriate for functional parts

    Thank you 🙏💚🤘✌
    I ask me to the 3D Printer world, but when I save up I do plan on buying this model (possibly threw Amazon). But either way, great video, I plan on making models myself and creating a career with it. Sending positive vibes✌

    Have you tried the Ender-2? i'm curious what you think of it vs the Tevo Tarantula or the Anycubic Kossel

    Do you know if it's possible to countersink the screws and mount the build plate it like it should have been mounted in the first place? Also if the layer height is .002 wouldn't you use a .002 feeler gauge and not a .007? How come you use .007, I think most use a .002?

    you should include some print times for printer reviews because that is a big factor for me

    I've never owned or used any 3D printer, would this make a good first buyer purchase? I've seen where there are a few mods that need to be made for it, like adding a cooling fan and some other minor stuff. But really no other real complaints about it.

    • @make.anything
      @make.anything  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely a solid choice out of several options. Like I mentioned, you can compare minor differences and decide what's best via makeanything.design/favorites

    Can you put in a link for that little bump for the switch since I am not the greatest at doing those things I and I believe other people would prefer that then having to do it there selves and go through a while of stuff.

    Great video, but why do you put glass on it knowing that it has a heated bed?
    The heated bed is useful only for specific filaments?
    Like, if i put the glass plate, i would have to relevel everything each time i take it (the glass plate) off to use a special filament?
    Someone answer please

    Would you recommend me this as a first 3D printer? Or I should buy Anycubic Kossel Plus?

    What measurement are you using with the feeler Gauges? Would 0.10 be suitable or 0.15? Great video and thank you.
    (SUBBED).

      It kind of depends on the printer but I like using half the layer height (so usually .1 mm)

    LOVE to get one. If you could actually get the damn thing. Took my money almost a month ago and since it's been "so sorry, back ordered but next week for SURE", except for sure never happens. I'm trying to tough it out but irked they took my money with no product to deliver. I'd cancel but at this point I'm guessing it would take months to get a refund anyway.

    Just increase the distance to the build plate if you think it sticks too well!

    Hello, nice video! Question: what is the base printing speed of the Tevo? Thanks!

    • @make.anything
      @make.anything  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how you tune it. I usually print at a nice but safe speed of 50mm/s

    Are they actually called "feeler gauges" or is there a more technical term? That seems like a very helpful tool.

    • @make.anything
      @make.anything  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Riley Hudson as far as I know that is the technical term. Very helpful indeed!

    Printers like this look good but I prefer big brands like creality and prusa
    Edit: if you are watching this in 2021 or later I just got the cr6 se 3 days ago and after fixing my slicer the prints are coming out great

    Do you have any videos regarding that feeler gauge? I use paper, and the slide and grab method, but I never know how the paper should grab. Was that spray glue to hold the glass down, or to stick the print ( at the end)?

    • @make.anything
      @make.anything  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No feeler gauge video specifically, but it's pretty easy to use. You just take the gauge with the thickness you want (I used 0.076mm) and adjust the bed until it just barely slides under. The spray was hairspray which helps prints stick.
