Really good info as usual! What isn’t clear is: how does this work if I have five sections of the same class? Do I need five copies of the lesson or five join codes? Does Nearpod store each set of class data separately? Thanks for the job you’re doing!
Yes, you can essentially just have five different lessons going at once, and you'll get different reports pulled for each of those classes. That's definitely the way to go.
There is some advantages to duplicating the original to five versions to make it easier for reporting and in case a group needs some different content or accommodation.
How would you use Nearpod in a hybrid situation where you're giving direct instruction to one group one day while the other group is at home? Our schedule is A, B, All remote, A, B. I'm curious what you think it would look like. Thanks!
This would require the paid version so that you can package nearpod content in either live or self paced modules. You can get a 90 day gold membership by applying to become a nearpod certified instructor.
I don't believe this is the case anymore since Nearpod changed their payment structure. You can access live and student-paced with a free account now, but storage and the number of student seats is limited: nearpod.com/pricing
Hi Jennifer, you can run multiple lessons at the same time. One can be live whereas the other can be student-paced (this didn't used to be the case, but they changed their pricing structure). When you click on "Teach" after selecting a lesson, you'll have the option to choose student-paced or teacher-paced. After you've launched one lesson, just open another tab and launch another. Best of luck!
Great video! Is it possible to edit videos imported from youtube? I have successfully added questions to the video but now I want to trim out the middle sections of the video and still use content from the end of the video and add questions in too. Does Nearpod support this and do you have a video on how to do this?
Hi, thanks for the video. I have been using this function for my lessons. But my students tell me they don't get to see the correct answer for the MCQ questions they attempted while watching the video. Can you help?
Thanks for this video- this new feature is super cool! I did have a question about nearpod and it's interaction with google slides- the animations I have on my google slides aren't being converted to near pod. Do you know if there is a way around this or have any advice, thanks!
Great videos… Thank you. The problem I am having is that I show the same nearpod to multiple classes. Thus, I’m a bit confused how to re-enter them in with different codes or can they enter with the old code of the original class? Under Reports I see multiple classes......any clarification would be extremely helpful....thanks
Hi Troy, if students are still continuing to work on the lesson (e.g. they start it, but don't finish it) then you'll want to give them the same code. Otherwise, when you give a new code, it's going to initiate a new session.
@@NewEdTechClassroom I am in the process of experimenting right now with one YT video. Download in the process... I hope it works :). I am not a techy person, but I am willing to learn.
Hi Jessica, I'm pretty sure you can't, unless I'm missing something when trying to do it. For now it appears you can only make interactive videos from the actual website.
What is the difference between the 2 different paid versions? I am a mathematics teacher and want to use this in my mathematics integration trade classes at BOCES. I was leaning towards the $120 subscription for the year.
Mostly storage capacity and the number of students than can be in a single lesson: nearpod.com/pricing You'd probably be fine with Gold (and it's worth the money, imho)
Your tutorials are most helpful, but I'm having trouble with this new option. I created an interactive TH-cam video within one of my existing Nearpod lessons. The problem begins when I run the lesson. The video plays well and the prompt appears, but once I answer the question (from a student account) I cannot resume the video and proceed to the next question (from the teacher screen or the student screen); the screen stays on the student response screen. Can you help?
problem solved. Goofy error. Once I reduced my screen from 100% to 90%, the play button was visible and I was able to resume the lesson. Side note: the Nearpod team is AMAZING. I used the chat function and they patiently walked me through a solution. I'm an even bigger Nearpod fan than I was before.
Thanks for all the info. I am thinking about doing an interactive video for my students. Would they be able to respond with an audio if they are asked an open-ended question while watching an interactive video?
Hi! Thanks for your videos, I just watched this and "how to teach remotely with nearpod". I started using this tool yesterday and wanted to try it first as a "student". So, I created an interactive video using one of my youtube videos...but the app always crashes after a question embedded in the video. I tried on a computer as well, and the video freezes and appears to be loading
Hi Lilian, huh, that's very strange! That hasn't happened to me before: I would reach directly out to Nearpod to see if they have any ideas about what might be going on.
When you click on the lesson in your teacher dashboard, you can choose to "resume an active session." That will take you back to the exact slide where you ended.
Love this new feature. If I am teaching virtually and am choosing to use the live participation option, will I need to teach students how to split their screens so they can see my screen displaying the lesson and their screen with the interactive questions etc. at the same time? Thank you.
Hi Deborah, in general I think teaching students to split screen should be close to number one on the foundational technology list. That being said, you can set it up so that they don't have to split their screens by allowing them to watch the video on their own screen and just controlling the pace of the slides on your screen, if that makes sense.
New EdTech Classroom Thank you. Yes, that does make sense. If you ever get the time, and if you haven’t done so already, I would love to see a tutorial video on some of these foundational technology skills you think are most important to teach. I know I could use it. :) Thanks for always explaining things so well. You are the first place I go to when searching for answers.
Hi Shea, as far as I can tell, it's only available when using the lesson builder from Nearpod's website, not the add-on. It's very possible that might change in the future though, but I can't say for sure!
My students told me today that during my live session when I started the video, it did not start the video on their Chromebooks which was annoying because I wanted to start and stop the video at certain points and make comments and then have the students do the interactive part when the video reached those markers. Did I do something wrong, or is that just how it works, kind of asynchronous during video playing in "live" sessions? Thank you.
Hi Rosalie, I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html The software I use is called Screenflow if you're interested in checking it out here: telestream.8bx6ag.net/c/2242743/352742/4900
This changed last year, you go to google slides and get the add on for nearpod. This brings the majority of the nearpod functions into the google slides app, edit then go back to nearpod to deliver to students.
Thanks, Eric. I was interpreting Lea's question different to ask how to link out to an interactive video. As in, how to create Slides that are independent of Nearpod and then bring an interactive video in (some teachers use NP this way as opposed to pulling all the slides into NP). Also, I thought the interactive video feature was just recently made a part of the add-on, but was not available when it was first released in August?
Can you use this new feature (interactive video) if your lesson is created in google slides? If so can you let me know how because I haven't been able to figure it out yet. My videos are AVI files and they will upload if I create the lesson through Google slides, but will not upload if I create as a near pod lesson. So I am having trouble using the new interactive video, because I can't upload my videos to near pod(without converting files), and even though I can upload them through Google Slides I don't have the interactive video option. Any advice or help you can give?
Hi Stephanie, My understanding is that the best type of file to upload into Nearpod is an mp4, but I can't say with any authority whether they do or do not accept avi files (I did think you could upload pretty much any kind of video file though). I'd recommend reaching out to Nearpod directly to see what they say about it.
I am still waiting for my Administration to white-list all the wonderful add-ons to my Google Slides. If I can't get the Add-ons (Nearpod, Peardeck, Slido, and others) do you know of any workarounds so that we could embed polls, forms, and other live, interactive activities such as these into Google slides? Thanks!
Hi Nina, yeah, that's a bummer: hopefully they give you access ASAP! You named all the good ones :) Unfortunately if those add-ons are blocked, all the rest of them will be too, so I'd go with an external tool like GoFormative, Kahoot, or Quizziz.
Can students fast-forward the video to the question without actually watching the video? Can the teacher see how much time a student spent on watching the video?
Hi Ann, from what I can tell, there isn't a way to prevent skipping unless you set it up so that students watch the video on your screen and then you activate the question to pop up. This is obviously less than ideal for student-paced mode. They do have a "send us suggestions" button, so you might want to let them know you'd like that feature!
I can bring a TH-cam video into Nearpod, but I can't seem to add questions to it (like I can in Edpuzzle). Is this even possible - am I missing something? Do I have to download the TH-cam video first? i don't remember doing it that way with Edpuzzle. I want to make this work as I am enjoying the idea of a one-stop lesson, however, I am concerned that my students will skip ahead and not watch the video unless I embed a question or two. Also, If you have any clout with Nearpod, I would love for Nearpod to add the ability to just embed a comment to a video instead of always having to make it a question - sometimes it is good to just point something out and maybe help students along with their note-taking.
Hi Karen, hmmm, you should be able to add the interactivity features to a YT video pretty much the same way you can to an Edpuzzle video (I just jumped in and was able to do it myself). Be sure to click Save after you've found the video and then click "Add activity" beneath the video. I definitely don't have the ear of Nearpod's product development team or anything like that but I do know that they are constantly trying to improve their product and would probably love to hear any suggestions about how it could be improved!
How do you grade a lesson? Do you pick and choose what you will count or do you grade a whole lesson? I am thinking about my high school students who will ask what the lessons are worth.

Hi Lisa, I do really like Canva and appreciate that they make their pro features available for educators/students. I haven't made a tutorial about Canva yet, though, but can in the future!
I think I asked this on your other video on nearpod but I'm not sure if you're more likely to respond to this one as it's more recent: when I get to that page on nearpod site where you see "free/paid" I don't see those buttons to select. I've looked all over the page and can't find it at all. Do you know why that is? Did they remove those buttons or move them or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for these videos btw- they're so helpful!
So sorry! I've been trying to answer all questions, but every time I log in there are what seem to be 100 new ones! Is it possible that your school district pays for you to have access to Nearpod? In that case you won't see the option to pay b/c you already have the paid version.
@@NewEdTechClassroom No worries- you seem to have high traffic! Good on ya! Anyway, no I logged in via my personal google account, so that's not possible. Also, I don't work for a district, but a tiny independent school, so there's only a slim chance I can talk them into paying for a subscription, unless like literally every single teacher begs for it. Which... knowing them is unlikely.
That's tricky. Usually the solution is to use headphones, but that won't help in this case because students won't be able to hear the sound. You might want to try these settings adjustments to see if that helps: support.bluejeans.com/s/article/Adjusting-computer-sound-settings-to-reduce-echo
I'm looking forward to using NearPod! Question: When I link TH-cam videos into Google Classroom for my students to click on, they sometimes end up Blocked by my School District. My kids say they can't view. If I link them through NearPod, might that same issue still happen? If you don't know, no worries. Thanks!
Hi Cathy, it depends if you have it set up to allow students to see the video on your screen, or whether or not you force-push the "eyes up" message (in the first video slide I demo at the end of the video they could rewind, but in the second video, they wouldn't be able to). Hope that helps!
Yes, though EdPuzzle has higher level functionality. For example, you can't set the videos in Nearpod so that students can't scrub through them the way you can in EdPuzzle.

Thanks for watching! Here's an article about how to integrate the two platforms: nearpod.com/lms-integration
I have a question I would like my students to play the interactive video in their own devices, but I never get that option that says where would you like the video to be played?, I have tried many times I only get the option that says eyes up front. thank you I really like your videos
Appreciate your efforts Sir
Thanks for your support!
I love Nearpod!! Do you think they will add a drag and drop activity, i feel like that is the biggest type of interactive feature that it’s missing?
They kind of have drag and drop with the matching activity, but I know it's not the same. I have no idea what they'll add in the future though!
You could also leverage the draw it page for a similar effect, or integrate a third party web based drag and drop as part of the nearpod.
Thank you for your clear explanation of this powerful tool!
You're very welcome!
Great video! Is it possible to edit videos imported from youtube? I have successfully added questions to the video but now I want to trim out the middle sections of the video and still use content from the end of the video and add questions in too. Does Nearpod support this and do you have a video on how to do this?
As far as I know (unless they've updated it), you can't edit videos in Nearpod. You can in EdPuzzle though.
Thank you so very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, thanks for the video. I have been using this function for my lessons. But my students tell me they don't get to see the correct answer for the MCQ questions they attempted while watching the video. Can you help?
I love your videos. I would like you to teach us how to create a slide presentation using Nearpod.
Thanks! I cover the Nearpod Slides add-on in this other video! th-cam.com/video/jvpU2qPAt-k/w-d-xo.html&t
Is it possible to have an audial assist within the question for younger students or students who struggle with reading?
Yes, definitely! nearpod.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360033648751-How-to-use-Nearpod-s-Beta-Integration-with-Microsoft-s-Immersive-Reader
Thanks for this video- this new feature is super cool! I did have a question about nearpod and it's interaction with google slides- the animations I have on my google slides aren't being converted to near pod. Do you know if there is a way around this or have any advice, thanks!
Unfortunately there isn't any way around this that I'm aware of!
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thanks for the prompt reply.....you have been my best friend the past couple of weeks :-)
Hi, your videos are awesome, I have learned soooo much. I just subscribed. My question is can you do interactive videos with an existing TH-cam video?
Hi Paola, yes, you can!
@@NewEdTechClassroom I am in the process of experimenting right now with one YT video. Download in the process... I hope it works :). I am not a techy person, but I am willing to learn.
So this is Nearpod taking the Edpuzzle idea? Canvas seems to have done this with their Studio feature as well.
It is the same idea, yes.
Can videos be added when working in google slides add on? I prefer to build there.
Hi Jessica, I'm pretty sure you can't, unless I'm missing something when trying to do it. For now it appears you can only make interactive videos from the actual website.
It looks like Nearpod has made some updates and now you can add interactive slides from the add-on!
What is the difference between the 2 different paid versions? I am a mathematics teacher and want to use this in my mathematics integration trade classes at BOCES. I was leaning towards the $120 subscription for the year.
Mostly storage capacity and the number of students than can be in a single lesson: nearpod.com/pricing
You'd probably be fine with Gold (and it's worth the money, imho)
How can I add a timer to my nearpod lesson that is not apart of one of the activities?
Hi Stephanie, unfortunately you can only add timers to select activities in Nearpod, not all.
That's awesome, Melissa! So glad you got it figured out!
Glad to hear you got it figured out, Melissa! :)
How I can choose subtitles in an interactive video?
Thanks for all the info. I am thinking about doing an interactive video for my students. Would they be able to respond with an audio if they are asked an open-ended question while watching an interactive video?
Hi Claudia, no unfortunately, they can only respond with multiple choice or typed responses.
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thanks for the reply.
Hi! I have a question if you pause a lesson because there is not enough time to finish it. How do you restart from that same spot? Thanks!
If you made the nearpod lesson in google slies, can you still add the interactive video into the lesson?
Hi Shea, as far as I can tell, it's only available when using the lesson builder from Nearpod's website, not the add-on. It's very possible that might change in the future though, but I can't say for sure!
My students told me today that during my live session when I started the video, it did not start the video on their Chromebooks which was annoying because I wanted to start and stop the video at certain points and make comments and then have the students do the interactive part when the video reached those markers. Did I do something wrong, or is that just how it works, kind of asynchronous during video playing in "live" sessions? Thank you.
Yes, as Jason said, choose to play the video on "this device only" to control how the video plays and when the questions pop up.
How do you post yourself in the video and make your screen your background?
Hi Rosalie, I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html
The software I use is called Screenflow if you're interested in checking it out here: telestream.8bx6ag.net/c/2242743/352742/4900
You rock! I'm inspired
Thanks!!
Hey! How can I add into my google slides the interactive video that i made in nearpod. I am lost. Help me please
You need to create the assignment in Nearpod and then create a hyperlink to add to your Slides presentation.
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thank you!
@stephanie Gobert, you're welcome!
This is great!
Thank you, Stacey!!
Can you tell how long a student watch a video?
Can you bring in Edpuzzle videos? Thank you
No need. But no they are separate programs.
You named all the good ones :)
Unfortunately if those add-ons are blocked, all the rest of them will be too, so I'd go with an external tool like GoFormative, Kahoot, or Quizziz.
Do you know how to make a video interactive using the nearpod add via google slides. It will not allow me. :(
Right now it's only available on Nearpod's website, not through the add-on, unfortunately.
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thank you so much for your reply.
Hi Desiree, that's changed now, so you can make interactive videos from the add-on!
I'd suggest making the final assessment truly indicative of all the skills/content taught and practiced and focus on grading that.
again, THANK YOU.
You're welcome! :)
How do you get yourself in the video without a background?
Hi Tammy, I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html
The software I use is called Screenflow if you're interested in checking it out here: telestream.8bx6ag.net/c/2242743/352742/4900
Hi, I see you LOVE Nearpod - are you familiar with CANVA? Have you done any tutorials on CANVA? Do you have any thoughts/opinions about CANVA? Thank you much/grazie mille!
Hi Lisa,
I do really like Canva and appreciate that they make their pro features available for educators/students. I haven't made a tutorial about Canva yet, though, but can in the future!
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thank you! (btw....I have enjoyed your videos so far)
Can you start a lesson with the class and then assign the rest of it as student paced?
Hi Robert, in this case you would need to initiate two separate sessions.
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome!
Is there a way to have students not skip through the video to get to the questions? Similar to edpuzzle?
Hi Jenna, not yet, unfortunately.
Does Nearpod integrate with Kami? I'm getting all kinds of ideas for lessons while I watch your videos.
No, Nearpod doesn't work with other extensions, only with the integrations within Nearpod
@Eric Chamberlin, it's good to know that this is an option though!
When I choose for videos to be on the Teacher device only, the students get reverb How do resolve this?
That's tricky. Usually the solution is to use headphones, but that won't help in this case because students won't be able to hear the sound. You might want to try these settings adjustments to see if that helps: support.bluejeans.com/s/article/Adjusting-computer-sound-settings-to-reduce-echo
the reports needs an overall score for the activities
Let Nearpod know, they are constantly updating features to make them more user friendly!
I'm looking forward to using NearPod! Question: When I link TH-cam videos into Google Classroom for my students to click on, they sometimes end up Blocked by my School District. My kids say they can't view. If I link them through NearPod, might that same issue still happen? If you don't know, no worries. Thanks!
Hi Tiffany! You will need to check with your IT person at school. This happens at my school too.
Hi Tiffany, yeah, you'll need to check in with your school admins or IT person like Andria suggested.
Does this mean that when I record a video within my original powerpoints the video will now upload onto Nearpod?
If you created a file that you can upload, then yes!
Thanks. Your informative vids are very much appreciated, especially now.
Are students able to rewind the video before answering questions?
Hi Cathy, it depends if you have it set up to allow students to see the video on your screen, or whether or not you force-push the "eyes up" message (in the first video slide I demo at the end of the video they could rewind, but in the second video, they wouldn't be able to). Hope that helps!
Hello!!!! One question.. Nearpod is for free?
The difference between the free and paid versions is storage capacity and number of student seats, so you can access the interactive video for free!
hi.Ilike it .thank u.
Glad to hear that, Mutia! Thanks for watching!
No longer a need for EdPuzzle...
Yes, though EdPuzzle has higher level functionality. For example, you can't set the videos in Nearpod so that students can't scrub through them the way you can in EdPuzzle.
