    Random question, could I use this to hook up a 12V car plug in? As in use 110AC house power to power up a 12V plug in cooler/heater

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but you'd have to match the amperage required for the cooler to the amperage supplied by the bricks. Check online to get the exact requirements. You might need 2 power bricks if the amp requirements are over 20 for the cooler

    Okay I have the amp hooked up now if I wanted to hook up my car stereo nd tweeters how do I do that without surging anything

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im a little confused on what you mean about "surging" something. This can happen one of two ways. Either there was an electrical issue in your house and there was a voltage surge, or you touch the positive and negative wires together when they are live. This can be avoided by making sure all leads are not touching one another and using basic electrical protection procedures (use electrical tape to cover leads)
      To add your car stereo into the mix, attach the positive and negative power to the distributor block, adding an inline fuse on the positive wire. Then connect the turn on wire to the positive terminal as well, but include a switch (normal light switch will work). This will turn the head unit on when the power adapter is on and the switch is set to the on position. Then run an RCA cable to your amplifier and you are all set. Another solution would be to use an RCA to 3.5mm wire, which is what i use in this video. Either option will work fine for you. If you have any more questions, let me know.

    just a quastion, i have seen alot of people do this with the xbox power adapter but, not all that loud soooo. do they have bad amps or is there coming way to low power trought the adapter imean, i want to do this with a 900Rms amp on 2ohm so that could be to heavy for the adapter right ?

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah buddy. Cars are the best to use powerful systems in. If you are trying to get good sounding audio in the house, invest in a 2.1 sound system or 5.1 if you have the money to spend. I mainly use my power adapters to test equipment before i install it for people or to run something around 200 watts RMS at best. I wouldn't recommend trying to power 900watts RMS. You'd need probably 8 power adapters and it would cost a FORTUNE on your electric bill.

      If you're still looking to do this, they make power converters that you can hook to regular house plug outlets and there for RVs, and you can push up to 10000 Watts with them. So if you get one you can definitely push some big Power threw some competition subs LOL. They ran from 140 to $200 online For the conversion or I would say the power converter.

      +Harrison King Hey bud. No problem, I will definitely hook you up with some suggestions! Just a heads up, usually companies post their peak power output to make things look like they can handle more power. The bigger the number that people see = the more excited about the product they are. Its a marketing trick. Can you please post the model of the subwoofer you'll be using? I can use this to match you up to the perfect amp, but i need some specs first. Also, are you using 1 subwoofer, or are there 2?

      Rv Converter amp, you can plug it into your home 120v outlet. If you look it up you can run it directly to the car audio amp to your subs, definitely can run big power through it. There are certain amperage ones where you can run up to 10K watts. I just know your house bill will be probably high 😂

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So they power adapters i believe push out 14 or 15 volts. This is fine. Car amplifiers run at 14.2-14.7 volts optimally for most newer amps. You should be fine running 2 or even 4 of these xbox adapters together in series and not have anything go wrong. Check out my follow up video and you can see how i set up 2 power blocks. Just connect all the positives to one another and same thing for the negatives.

    I have a question if you put it to loud will the amp go off

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aaron torres If you turned it up too loud, two things could have happened... 1 - Your speakers could have blown.. If your amplifiers RMS ratings exceed what your speakers could handle, then you fried the voice coils in your speakers and you're SOL.... 2. You could be drawing too many ampers. If you have a very powerful amplifier, you may need to get two or three of these power bricks and run them parallel into your amplifier. These bricks only supply 20 ampers i believe, and usually a amp, when turned to 85-90%, will draw 20-30 ampers. Just check to see if your amp have the power on light. If it does your speakers are fried, if not, you need another power brick

      Trying to answer this the best I can. Every amplifier has different layouts for the positive and negative wires. Just follow what your amplifier shows, symbols will be on it. 12v to remote and power to turn on are the same thing, just different ways of saying it.

    so.. my amp is 750 watts. has 1, 30A fuse. and my Xbox 360 brick has only 14.7A I think. so Whan I try to turn on my amp it only plays for a little bit than the light on the brick turns red. does this means that I need more amperage?

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be an issue with your blue and red connection i believe. The red light usually signifies that it doesnt have a strong turn on signal. I would solder the blue and red connection and see if that helps. If not, i will need more info on your amps and also on your brick model number. Sorry for the late reply :)

    • @04tb2

      Your amp is pulling a lot more amps then the Xbox 360 plug can give
      30 amp fuse and the 360 only puts out 17.7 amps on a good day, it will keep shutting off or going into protect.
      It's better to use a power supply from a computer that will put out a lot more amps
      The only reason he can run the Xbox plug is because he has a small amp on it

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. Your amp will go into circuit protection mode if the current allowance is too low, its a safety mechanism so you don't torch transitors and MOSFETS. I don't believe stereos have this feature, and if your amp pulls too much power, it may harm the stereo. Best bet is to buy a second brick, one for each. • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Austin Conforti does the red light flash on the Xbox adapter or the subwoofer amplifier? if it's the amp, it's going into power protection mode because it's overheating, most likely due to not enough power which can damage the circuitry inside the amp. if it's on the Xbox adapter, it could be a bad connection somewhere.
      to test, use a multimeter and set it to DC voltage. measure the power at your subwoofer terminals when the sub is on and playing (even if the light starts blinking) let me know what you get from this and we can go from there.

      I did not have any speakers attached to the setup at this point. The frequency was mid-range at this point and my speakers were not tuned to this, and it did not produce a very good sound. If you watch my follow up video (link in the description), you'll hear that it sounds much better when you add in other speakers. Also, it does sound better in person, but the camera mic (iphone) is not very good and did not pick up the audio correctly as you would hear in person.

    from the cut ends of the brick cable (yellow, black, blue, red) can I not just connect the yellow to power (on my subwoofer) and then black to ground? instead of adding the thick car cable with the fuse? thanks

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can just connect the wires, yes. But I would NEVER, i mean NEVER, wire anything electric without a fuse in between. Its a simple step that can save hundreds of dollars in the off chance something happens. There are a million scenarios that could occur that would be catastrophic for the amplifiers circuitry that could be avoided if a fuse is added! You could also start a fire if the spark is large enough. So you can wire these directly, but please please please, add an inline fuse on the positive wire for safety measures.

    • @lewiskx57
      @lewiskx57 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Living For The Ice thank you for the reply, my sub has a build in fuse would that be enough? I have a subwoofer in my car and ofcourse it is fused straight after connecting on battery.
      does this set up work if you connect low input audio cables (red and white generally) to the TV to get bass from subwoofer and sound from TV?
      thanks for fast reply btw.

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this will work for the RCA connection from a TV. And those fuses for the amplifier protect the internals of the amplifier. This is not enough though as you want to protect the amp entirely before it could become damaged. Too much of a power surge can cause the fuse pins (since they're small fuses) to weld together, leading to an uninterrupted flow of power to the circuitry. Protect your investment bro. Its well worth it. Sorry i took longer on the reply, im getting ready to head back to school and life is getting crazy haha.

      Hayden Hollis You're going to want to try to match RMS ratings for your subwoofers and amplifier as closely as possible. lewiskx hey man. if there was no light on there may be an issue before the power brick. check your plugs and make sure you fuse isn't blown on your homes circuit breaker. if these are both okay, there seems to be an issue with the red/blue connection. usually if these aren't connected, you'll just have a steady red light on instead of the normal green light. if those wires are connected securely (try soldering them to be sure) then it is most likely a bad brick. happens sometimes man. let me known how it turns out and if you need any more help

Am I right in saying that I can connect the wires that you’ve shown in the video and then connect them straight into the subwoofer. I presume this will allow me to power the unit and it has also basically got two connectors which will allow me to connect to my laptop direct.The question I have if I was to add a normal speaker to this combination would you suggest that I double up on the inputs going to the sub woofer speaker.?

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man. So if you have a built in amp on a sub, then yes you can wire the power directly to it. If you add another speaker set, you'll need a new power source for these speakers, the sub amp will blow the speakers out quickly and you won't have good sound quality. Best of luck!

      Okay, so i don't have my Xbox adapters with me so i don't know if that is a generic power brick or an authentic Xbox power brick. But either way, if the orange light is on, something may not be wired correctly. Make sure the blue and red are connected and sealed (electrical tape or shrink wrap). Then make sure your positives and negatives are also sealed off from one another so no shorting out will occur. Finally, be sure the leads are both hooked up properly to the amplifier. If this all is good and you're still getting an issue, take a quick video of everything from the brick to the amplifier. Post the link here and i will take a look to see if anything doesn't look right. Much easier for me to diagnose something if i can see it, ya know? Hope that helps bro!

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you wired these adapters in SERIES, the voltage will increase. When you wire in parallel, you double the amperage but voltage remains between 12-14v. There is always extreme caution used when wiring to ensure that cross voltage introduction does not occur. And 8 gauge power wire is much to large for 3 bricks. This will only produce around 50amps max, which would require somewhere around 12g wire for a short (3-6ft) run.

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No sir. To get the full ability of subs with that rating, you would need a minimum of 3-4 bricks wired in parallel and probably a capacitor. If you were to wire this into a car, you would have no problem with a simple 4 guage P/G install and wouldnt need the capacitor. I wouldnt expect anyone to push something over 400w to the limits with xbox adapters. If would take a lot to get them quite that high. But good luck with your install and let me know if you need any more help!

    Can I use a capacitor or 2nd battery with this?

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rhenaldo Barnard I wouldn't man. Capacitor wont like the slow recharge rate and i think it will burn out quickly. And the battery wont recharge i believe. Since this isn't setup as a charging system, the battery will just be a pass-thru i believe. I am not sure on these, but that is my theory. I wouldn't use either if i were you, but if you end up trying it out, let me know.
      Another option if to get 2 or 3 xbox power adapters and join them all together. This will increase your ampers output and increase your amplifier power. Good luck with everything bud!

    • @BenLeclerc
      @BenLeclerc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rhenaldo Barnard yes. You'll want to solder them together. I have 3 that I soldered together. Take all of the yellow wires and solder those all together. Same for all of the black. You'll be left with 3 red and 3 blue. Connect the red and blue wires together separately for all 3 blocks. Those are the turn on wires and you'll want to make sure that they are each individually connected.

    • @BenLeclerc

      You can but i would not recommend it. This type of connection is very insecure and can result in a lack of power. You can do it this way, but make sure they are twisted securely and taped with electrical tape so they do not short the circuit.
