  • Dual diaphragm Brake booster upgrade, as well as deleting the factory rear load leveling proportioning valve on my 1989 Jeep Comanche.
Junkyard brake boosters that should work are:
    Grand Cherokee ZJ / WJ
    95/96 Cherokee XJ
Jeep Cherokee XJ 97+ WILL NOT WORK as the rod is 2" too long.

The hose that connects to the brake booster is missing a cap, could that be the reason why it’s hard to brake ?

I have a 87 Comanche and I want to do the same, is there any way you can send me an email with all the info. You made this upgrade look easy I’ve been reading about this upgrades for months now and can’t get any accurate info

I had the same issue and it was super frustrating so I know exactly how you feel! In the description I have the brake boosters/ Master cylinders themselves that you could use, That being said the brake booster you use will determine what brake line setup you'll have to go with. I got mine from a WJ so I made sure to pull the brake lines as well from the same Jeep (from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve just below). All you'll need from there is a brake line flare kit and pick up some 3/16" brake line and fittings and you just need to bend up about 12" of line in total to make it work. It is possible to buy a straight piece of brake line with fittings and flares already from almost any part store and bend the line yourself and it should cost only about $20 (Canadian). The upgrade is super easy you just need to be careful when grinding for the brake light sensor. If you still have some questions I can absolutely send you an email!

Raine Lutz so did you run a line from the front of the proportion valve to the rear ? Or did you use the existing line ? I know you plugged the bottom front port correct?

The only reason I ran another line from the front of the proportioning valve to the rear axle was mine rusted completely through. In your case you could reuse the line that goes from the rear axle to that front port on the proportioning valve. The port on the bottom of the proportioning valve was plugged as I deleted the rear ride level valve altogether.

why did you stick with drums instead of converting?

I don't have a good reason honestly, maybe down the road i might convert it but at the time i needed to just get the truck done and running. If you have the time i would absolutely recommend upgrading to disc brakes as they make a pretty big difference, I did that on my 97 xj when i had it and loved them!

Ive heard that drums properly adjusted and maintained stop just as well as disks. Main difference is disks are a simpler design and easier to maintain.

I left drums because I’m gonna end up swapping rear axles and when I do that I’ll convert the new axle to disc

Will this work on an 86 Comanche?
