    In my Private Producers Community - The Pad Bank, We have a weekly sample challenge called Flip It.
    In this video I give you an in-depth Sampling Tutorial using the Akai MPC Studio Black.

    =====================================
    I had an Akai MPC 2000 back in 1997, but in 2003/4 I stopped sampling and started using Reason / Cubase to make beats.
    In 2007 I stopped producing altogether.
    Now in October 2016, almost 10 years later, I've just got myself an Akai MPC Studio Black, and started making sample based beats again.
    Follow my journey as I share my learning.

    About the Akai MPC:
    The MPC Studio Black is a fresh take on the top-selling original, MPC Studio.
    Akai made the Studio look cooler than ever by introducing a sleek and stylish black brushed-aluminum body.
    To elevate the parameter editing experience, the master encoder wheel as well as the Q-Link knobs have been raised and made larger.
    The 16 MPC pads are now thicker and more responsive, inspiring greater expression in performance and programming.
    Legendary MPC Production on Your PC or Mac
    The Studio Black fuses legendary MPC production with the processing power of your computer.
    Its compact design is a minuscule 1.5” thin.
    Weighing in at less than two pounds, the Studio Black easily fits into a laptop bag or backpack.
    Its USB-powered and includes the powerful MPC Software for Mac and PC with 128-track sequencing capability.
    Equipped with the legendary MPC workflow, MPC Swing, plus powerful features such as “lazy” chop, you'll be producing great music in no time.
    A large LCD screen (360 x 96 dot graphic LCD) allows you to make tracks without having to look at your computer.
    Included MPC Software
    Featuring 128-track sequencing capability and up to eight pad banks--more than any other MPC ever-the included MPC Software delivers a massive 7GB+ sound library, including all the sounds of the classic MPC3000 and including 2 MPC Expansions.
    Instant mapping and real-time adjustment of VST plugins lets you record each track as an MPC drum program, Keygroup program, or VST/AU plugin.
    Use MPC Software alone as your main creation tool or seamlessly call it up in your favorite DAW as a VST, RTAS, or AU plugin.
    MPC Software supports WAV, MP3, AIFF, REX, and SND, as well as samples and sequences from any MPC ever made, and it's compatible with both Mac and PC.

    yes Tony you Can assign the fade in, fade out or whatever effect on all your pad : on the sample edit mode, at the bottom you have "edit zone" with 3 options : current, multiple or all. the option "current" means that the effect is affected only on the pad you've selected. just click on "all" and all your pad will be selected !
    great vidéo peace !!

    Yes Tony you can do it. In Program Edit mode in the "Edit Zones" section. (Note: Edit Zones only appears in Drum Programs)) If you want to affect one pad leave the setting on "Current". If you want affect more than a single pad at a time, change the option to "Multiple" then tap on or use your mouse in the software to select the pads you want to deal with. The pad that will be affected will show a purple outline. Lastly, if you want to affect all pads across all banks in a program at once, then change the option to "All" and your changes will be applied universally within that program. See ya in the FB group. ;-)

    Thanks Tony, I came here after seeing the MPC Studio and was interested in just how it samples. Seeing how you work helps. I'll have a look at your previous videos as soon as I go and buy the new MPC Studio. I'll also join the Pad Bank. My son is on the Autistic Spectrum and does not speak. He does go on TH-cam and listens to various things over and over again going back to the point he likes with great accuracy to the end point he prefers.
    I think he could learn to use this and perhaps produce some interesting music or sounds. Then he will speak with a language we can all understand. Most software for children on the Autistic spectrum is so they can talk so we understand. I want something so I can understand my son and I think this is on the right Track.

    Hey bro its always best to time stretch to match the bpm of your track , and also if the sample wave has decayed in volume after the time stretch just normalise it again.

    • @franmaga28

      Hey man, idk why but when i tend to do that, the normalize function doesnt restore the level of the sample to how it ws before the time-stretch. Normalize function is suppose to do precisely that right?

    I can never get ANYTHING to line up with my sequence NO MATTER WHAT I DO! I have tried time stretch, tune, pitch shift, warp, changing sequence tempo, No matter what it's always off beat. Any pro tips? I appreciate you making this content. It has helped me tonz!!!

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First thing - Don't force it. I sometimes allow the sample to dictate the tempo. I'll find my piece, sample it, pitch / time stretch etc then chop it up into segments - usually on every beat. then I start playing around with the chops to see what i can come up with. at this stage, I have no tempo in mind, until I find something that works. Then I use the tap tempo to find the rough tempo, then I record the sequence. once I have the idea down, I tighten up it up to get the right tempo. Then we're off and running.

      You don not need to use the mouse to scroll when chopping samples. The MPC has 4 Q-link nobs you can use to scroll with each one allowing you to scroll in smaller units as you zoom into the sample to fine tune.

    Hi Tony, ive watched yout video lik 10 times as i try to figure out things practicing in the software. I just get a little messy with some basic concepts. My question is, lets say i have one program just like yours with a whole song or whatever chopped in the pads along the program, and another program with just drum sounds to play a hiphop beat on top of the song sampled right. I want to do this of course in a same Sequence, i mean with both my drum sounds and the song chopped samples. I get that the way kinda goes like Sample < Program < Sequence < Song am i right? How can i do that, to program a beat with the drum program and as well a melody with the song chopped samples, all in the same "Sequence 1"??

    Hi I'm facing a problem: when I drag my mp3 sample in the MPC software, it appears in the sample section on the right, but doesn't appear in the "Sample Edit" tab. Also, I can't play the sample in the software. Can you please help?

    • @ChilledRippa

      You have to convert it to .WAV first before you drag it to sample edit.

    Hey Tony great vid again.
    I have one short question.
    Is there a short cut comand or button combination to instanly return to the start of bar one.
    Like double klicking stop in Cubase or studio one. Or do I have to hit every time `go to-start`?

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi m t - I just use the "Play Start" button on the hardware. You can also click "play start" in the sofeware. 👌🏽 I'm sure there is another shortcut. But I've never felt the need to use it.

    • @mt-kk1nt
      @mt-kk1nt 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tony.
      In my case I thought it would be handy to have a single button to kick you to the start of the bar just before you start a plugin recording. to avoid a recording in the middle.

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      m t you can use the "bar" and "event" arrow buttons to navigate back and forth through the sequence.

    when you trimmed this , did you purposely trim it to make it so that when you were chopping and assigning sections to your pads the high hats will be lined up sort of speak? for instance if you may have trimmed like a hair too much to the left than when you were than when you tried to chop that hi hat would be rushed and not on beat ?

    • @andrewtrezza3268
      @andrewtrezza3268 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fuck that made no sense

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew, I usually chop my samples on every beat and this usually lands on the hi hat. Once I have the samples in the program and laid out on the pads I will then make small adjustments to the start and end points.

    • @brandonboggs2656
      @brandonboggs2656 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Time stretching makes it to where you can pretty much get anything on beat but the cleaner way to do.it would be to chop it up real good.

      In program edit mode - on the far right side - to the left of the pad insert row - you will see two options - Note on or One shot - select Note on if you want the sample to stop when you release the pad.

    • @frikshun_

      You need to create separate programmes - so have your sample in one programme. then put your drums in a new programme and so on. Also, set you programme to Poly rather than mono.

      An Mp3 are compressed music file meaning they're smaller. A Wav is bigger because it's not compressed. If that makes sense..

    Hi! I am just learning how to produce beats... I am completely fresh to all this I also joined your fb group a bit ago! I have the mpc professional studio(silver one) do these tutorials coincide with my hardware as well as the renaissance? What about the touch? Thanks in advance(:

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sun Shine The silver MPC studio is more or less the same as the Black and the Ren. And the software is exactly the same. So my videos should be relevant for you. I can't speak on the MPC Live as I have never used it. But I'm sure the learning would be transferable. Looking forward to connecting with you in The Pad Bank.

      Okay I see.. well thank you lots for verifying that for me look forward to learning a whole much more from your channel and appreciate/love the fact that you actually respond so promptly makes me feel like you're really trying to help us beginners and all who are watching! I wrote another producer a few paragraphs and I never received a word back!!! Smh. Still lost on what I was trying to ask him...maybe I can ask you? Possibly you can be so kind to help me with that as well. Also, when you say "mpc live" you are referring to the touch..correct?

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sun Shine You're welcome. Yes, I meant MPC touch, instead of MPC Live. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. However, many of your questions will be answered in The Pad Bank.

      You are very kind! Thanks soo much, seriously! (: I am currently messing with a sample I chopped it up and when I assign to a pad as I am trying to put something together(record something) it's like each time I push the pad it will get louder and louder or quieter the more I push it than back loud? Why does it do this and how can I make it stop?

    • @frikshun_
      @frikshun_  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sun Shine it might be that you have not turned on "Full Level". On the right hand side of the MPC. Second row from the top. First button on the left. When that button is turned on, the sample will play at full level, regardless of how hard you hit it.
