  • This week I'm sharing the most basic intro to the Alexander Technique-along with some other questions I was asked by my 2nd-grade daughter and her class for her parent career day. The questions 2nd graders sent me in preparation are:
What does your day look like?
Do you like your job/is it fun? Why or why not?
How did you get into this work?
How long have you been doing this work?
    Where do you work?
    What is the Alexander technique?
What is healthcare education and how is it different from what we learn in school?
What did you study in college and where did you study?
Do you work in or with a hospital?
What was the first job you had in life, summer job, and then in healthcare?
What inspired you to do this?
    I hope you enjoy!

Hi Morgan! This is your friend Karen in NYC. (The E is a bit of a story….) I think you will knock them dead! And a really fun video. I like how you enjoy the mystery of it all while still explaining what AT is.

Wow! I enjoyed your answers but 2nd graders are a tough crowd. Good luck. PS: I was a life guard too!

Right?!?! My 2nd grader already rolls her eyes at me and she's still only 7 *gulp* Thanks for the encouragement and support-I'll need it. 🤪 (And, it's nice to know that if I'm ever drowning over here, you'll be qualified to help save me 🤣)

I have cervical dystonia and wish you was near. I feel I will never get better.

Hi Spe-chul Pee-pul! Thank you for your comment-I wish you were near as well! But, on a brighter note, I'm so grateful for the internet that brings us closer and makes information more accessible. (Really! What did people ever do before 'Google'?) I've worked for a while with someone who has cervical dystonia and we have had some great progress over the years. Might I suggest you look beyond your neck to what other parts of your body may be trying to compensate so that you can find areas that you have more control over? For example, can you relax your hips, soften your lower back muscles, ease any pressure in your face, or even wiggle your toes and release any tension that might be stuck in your feet.
