- We designed a C.A.D.E.T. (Costal Avoidance Device for Early Termination) to make High-Altitude Ballooning possible in coastal areas. This device will drop the payload whenever the balloon drifts past a pre-set GEO Fence. The payload will fall rapidly under a small drogue chute until the main chute deploys closer to the ground. This delayed chute deployment prevents unnecessary drift toward coastal waters where the payload may be damaged or worse, unretrievable!
We had the pleasure of testing this system with a group of students from Ruth Fox Middle School in North Branch Michigan. They decided to send up a 3D-printed Bronco (their school mascot) for the adventure of a lifetime!

I feel like that video could not have gone better LOL being able to see the drogue Chute deployed, the main Chute deploy. Such a soft landing and then the parachute Landing in the background. Awesome😊

Good question! That particular science class was wanting to study the humidity at different altitudes. I didn't realize there was no label until it was too late!
