Man charged for pointing laser at Washington State Patrol airplane in flight

- FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Prosecutors charged a Federal Way man with a felony this week after he allegedly pointed a laser pointer at a Washington State Patrol (WSP) airplane as it was in flight earlier this month.
According to court filings, Bruce Murri, 62, was arrested on May 3 just before midnight after the flight crew of the WSP plane directed officers on the ground to an apartment complex on Pete Von Reichbauer Way South, which is under the approach and departure path of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

But people don't usually go off rail all of a sudden at 62 with no criminal history but it would make more sense if he were provoked. What if there's was a harassment program being done to outspoken civilians. Who are now being mobbed in traffic at the stores, as they shop and with noise harassment from above when they retreat to the safety of their homes. There is, it's called community policing or proactive policing. The program has been going for 3 plus years in Washington State I am one of their targets. This is the exact kind of thing targeted individuals have to handle daily. Being aggravated into a retaliatory and expected response. Ending in Incarceration or worse for the target. When it's daily for three years it tough to have the wherewithal to withstand it without being provoked. That might not be what's happening here but what I shared is legitimately happening to thousands of law-abiding civilians everyday nationwide none the less. Just thought I'd share.

Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a federal offense, with hefty fines and federal prison time. Aiming at police helicopters is an extra level of stupidity. Multiple offenses can triple fines and prison sentences. After that comes the lawsuits.
It’s difficult enough to get a laser pointer for us amateur astronomers, we don’t need Stupid having them banned altogether.

Nice catch. I got laser illuminated while doing some flight training at night... it's no joking matter. It was really bright and it screws up your night vision for a minute or two after.

@@janejones8672 it’s extremely dangerous. We take a lot of measures to ensure we can see perfectly fine at night when we fly. So with your eyes adjusted for lack of light those lasers are the equivalent of you waking up on a bright sunny clear day going outside and staring at the sun.

If you are stupid enough to shine a laser at an aircraft in general you are probably not aware that all a pilot has to do is tell whoever they are talking to about it and they will contact authorities for you

Sone teenagers in a white Dodge van aimed lasers into my eyes as I walked across a 4 lane hwy. I tried to shield my eyes but had to see where I was walking. I had the walk sign. If I would of had a baseball bat I would have busted out their windshield.
After I got across the street there was a 24 hr restsurant and a cop inside. He got on the radio to catch them.
My eyes were burning like I had charcoals in them.

@@TinMan_RC They haven't yet, but it doesn't matter. Commercial flights have had to declare an emergency and circle back to land because pilots have had vision issues following a laser strike. I recall a flight in the UK (I believe Virgin Atlantic) had this occur a few years ago. I'm sure the ATC audio will be on VASAviation.

It would be 'helpful' if KOMO News reported the facts in their videos. The video is clearly recorded at 2322 Tacoma Avenue South IN Tacoma... NOT Federal Way or near the airport as the video's description states!!! It's also 'reported' that he was arrested on May 5th when the video (again) proves it was actually February 24th.

Do they shine lasers in your windows from "up there"? You can "spy back" on the aircraft watching you. Just use a long lens on a camera, or use a pair of binoculars or even a field scope. Short of all-out war, though, there's no excuse fort blinding anyone with a laser.

Aerial surveillance is common practice all over the country right now. Everywhere. Kind of spooky when you think about it. We used to live near an old (now closed) military base. Even though the site was shut down, there was always surveillance planes, drones flying around. Neighbors complained. It took three months, but it stopped. Then it started up again. Weird. But common. We have family living in South FL. At least once a week, there are Dade or Broward County Sheriff's choppers in the air. Sometimes they're looking for a person or a car, as they have those spotlights shining on the ground. I guess this is just part of our new normal.

Back in mid 2018, there was an obligerant substance abuser 'sitting' in the back of a city transit bus, who had done practically the same thing...only he was pointing the laser pen at the rear view mirror, towards the bus driver b/c the driver was questioning him and his public behaviour.
Soon after, he was escorted off the bus, after peace officers were dispatched and had halted the bus, inaccordance w/ the driver.
The transit bus was filled w/ passengers of All ages, the time of day was in the late evening, and the traffic was high-density.
Thankfully and luckily, the dtiver wasn't hurt (to my knowledge) and none of the passengers either.
Will the female dispatcher stop yapping and just get the damn officers to the location please.
