  • Welcome to a day in our lives in Queretaro. The last month we have been living in La Karencitas apartment in Queretaro.
    In this video we show you a glimpse of our lives in Queretaro, Mexico. We have been traveling throughout Mexico for a year and half in search of home, and Queretaro is at the top choices of our choices for our future home. Living in Mexico in 2022 we decided to try the city of Santiago de Queretaro. We shop for groceries, hang out at the park, workout at the gym, and do normal things to show one example of what life in Mexico looks like.

    Dang, over 3 weeks without internet? That's brutal! The market looks awesome though, and the daily trip there (and fresh tortillas!) would def' put me in a good mood, too. We're most def' team pan dulce. Those look SO GOOD, chocolate banana please (maybe with some peanut butter? is that blasphemy? )! Lol, is Kev' sleeping with his eyes open? I've (Stephen) got those skills too! 😄 That lentil salad looks great. I think Andie would be a little freaked out by the idea of lighting that boiler. The house is great, and it was really cool to see your day in the life! Not that we're biased or anything. 😉

    One thing I like (from a distance, from the comfort of my own home), is seeing how many of the "houses" in Qro are just right off the street, like, you can walk outside and into an actual street. But when you're inside, it looks like a "traditional" home (I say "traditional" in the sense of what I know in the US). I think it's so cool. NOW, that being said, I don't know how I would actually like it if I were to live there. It would seem like it could get noisy and there would would be very little privacy, since people and cars are driving literally right outside the front door. Anyone have experience with this and would like to discuss your thoughts?

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      yea this particular house is located in a small complex, but once you exit the complex you're right in the city center. There are also homes in residential communities where you have to drive out to go to the store and whatnot. I think there's a little bit of everything for all kinds of tastes and comforts in Queretaro.

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing! 😊 it's my favorite. Here's the order I put everything in the bowl:
      Purple onion (diced)
      Lime juice
      White vinegar (lime juice and white vinegar enough to cover the onion but not too much, this'll help soften the strong onion taste)
      Cucumber
      Cherry tomatoes (or regular tomatoes with the seeds scooped out)
      Carrots (diced or shaved)
      Parsley (fresh)
      Olive oil
      Cooked lentils (when I cook them I boil them with chicken broth seasoning)
      Salt & Pepper to taste
      Top with avocado when you're ready to eat and complement with oven-baked tortillas (tostadas) or tortilla chips
      Enjoy 🤗

    I have Telmex for my internet as well and it's really fast and reliable. However, I also have an awful customer service experience with them... After signing up for their internet online and clicking the order button once, it created 5 separate orders and I got 5 emails with different order numbers. I texted them on whatsapp to cancel the other 4 and they wouldn't do it. The service rep told me to sell the 4 extra to friends and family. I said "You must be joking! I'm not going to become a sales rep for Telmex because a bug in your system created extra orders." After some more back and forth, I finally said "if you don't have the authority to cancel these extra orders, please connect me with a supervisor." And finally, after saying that, they cancelled them right away. It's not like this is some small mom and pop company, Telmex is one of the biggest companies in the country. For their customer service to be THIS bad is kind of embarrassing.

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks for coming by to share your tips for dealing with Telmex. Looks like there's a pattern of little accountability on their part. We kind of feel like they abuse their power because THEY KNOW they're the biggest provider in the country (pretty f'd up if it's true). A Telmex technician FINALLY showed up to our place yesterday and we asked him when he received the assignment to come fix our connection. His answer: just this morning. We asked "then what's been going on the past 5 weeks? How come they didn't send someone sooner?" He had no clue. Nothing we can do. No one we can hold accountable for this awful service? They even continued to charge Karen for the service as normal. 🙄
      About asking to speak to a supervisor, I tried that during one of my phone calls to them and they said "they couldn't do that". Did you speak to them in English? As terrible as this sounds, I wonder if I'd have gotten further if I was calling in English.

    I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and am wondering what you miss/don't miss about living there in comparison to traveling in and around Mexico. What was your life like in Chicago (owned your own house/rented an apartment, proximity to downtown, food choices, entertainment, etc) and how does your life now compare?

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      that's such a good question! When we lived in Chicago, technically we lived in the town of Cicero (75% of the town is bordered by Chicago) and we were about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown (route 66 aka Ogden ave was 2 blocks away from us). We rented a 2 bedroom apartment in a 2-flat house owned by Kevin's parents, so we paid below market rent (a blessing and a privilege). We'd have pizza and tacos often, shopped for our groceries at Aldi (we miss Aldi! lol) and go out for sushi, thai food, and greek food (miss good asian and greek food as well!). I guess the main things we miss are certain foods and family. Our parents and siblings and nieces and nephews, especially the little ones. On the other hand, we get to have lots of really amazing food in Mexico that we wouldn't have (or wouldn't be able to afford as often) in Chicago. Tacos in Chicago are around $4 now and everything is going up! and we do get to see our family a few times a year with our visits to Chicago or meeting them up in Mexico somewhere. So there are pros and cons but we've found ways to make up for some of those cons. Thanks for asking this question it might be a good video or livestream topic idea!

    When the faucet has a sound like that and leaks, it means it needs either replacing or if possible fixing the internal gums so it closes correctly. It happens from time to time from regular usage. I just had mine doing the same thing, and for a time I did the exact same thing, but the maintenance guy told me I needed to change the faucet because the one I had could not be fixed (there was no way to open it and replace things)

    You are both an inspiration to my mama and I and appreciate all of the work you put into your videos and content. We have a video idea that we think a lot of future retirees would like to check out. We were wondering if you could do a feature on the cost of having live-in assistance for those who are looking to retire in Mexico and/or the cost of a nursing home. As you know, assisted living facilities or nursing homes in the US are extremely expensive and often lack the spirit of care our elders deserve. I've heard that having full-time help in Mexico averages 500-700 a month. Once my mother and I turned vegan and started eating 90% raw a lot of our health problems cleared up, but it would be great for those looking at Mexico to see a video on the topic so they can see their options.

      Thanks for your sweet comment, Dora 😊❤️ We feel super lucky to be best friends, travel partners, and life partners❤️
      Enjoy 🤗

    We are coming to Queretaro next week. Any tips? It's our first time. Do we need jackets? How often has it been raining?

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s pretty hot during the day, and a little chilly at night. Definitely bring sweaters or light jackets. A jean jacket is enough for me at night. It’s been raining frequently, but it doesn’t last all day. Time of rain varies, but when it rains earlier in the day, the rain clouds tend to disappear as if they were never here at all! Sun comes right back out ☀️ if you don’t have an umbrella, you’re usually not waiting too long for it to stop raining. At least that’s been the case for the past month 🙂

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tips: bring an umbrella, not just for rain but it’s helpful for the hot sun too! And always have your face mask with you. Querétaro still wears them and most restaurants will ask for them to enter.

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You’ll be able to get around in Uber. Depending where you decide to stay parking might be an issue. Querétaro has its own airport and the biggest airport would be CDMX. Thanks for watching and supporting our content! Saludos

    • @cesarloretto4476
      @cesarloretto4476 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My two cents: Querétaro does require having a car (or Uber), as opposed to cities like CDMX or Guadalajara that are more walkable. Querétaro Airport (QRO) is the closest; Mexico City Airport (MEX) is a 2:30 hour drive.

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gil Jusino @@cesarloretto4476 it really depends on where you’re staying. Centro is very walkable but if your in the neighborhoods outside of centro, it does tend to be more car-centric

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We got by with our phone hotspot, SIM cards from Oxxo, and going to cafes for internet, but it was pretty rough. Telmex is “king” as the monopoly for internet service but their customer service is infamous. To answer your question, the best internet provider will vary from block to block. TotalPlay may have the best connection on one block, but Megacable may be stronger on the next one. It’s worth asking around the neighbors for their input.

      And there’s lots going on on weekends during the day. The Querétaro Experimental International Festival has events on Saturdays in the summer. Other things, you can visit museums, wander the pedestrian streets in centro, visit Alameda for a relaxing stroll, catch a movie at Cinepolis (the popcorn lines are ridiculously long but worth it).
