    I'm paying $300 USD per month for more than 3 and a half years now for a small but comfortable, apartment near the beach. Furnished, cable and WI-FI included, off street parking, gated, near all shopping, including Costco and Walmart. Total expenses per month comes to about $500 USD.
    Viva Mexico! 🇺🇸✌🇲🇽

    I moved to the beautiful, clean and safe Queretaro, Mexico at the age of 79 .from the deadly USA The police do not play here, and the people are super nice, respectful, and kind. It is less expensive to live here, and I have a beautiful apartment, and my own driver and maid and laundry, and above all FREE wifi. I have lived since 1962 part time in Acapulco, but I was in 6 earthquakes and one hurricane.,There are people of African ancestry n Mexico, and the 2nd President of Mexico was of African ancestry. Vicente Guerrero,

    324 USD ?!!!! My gosh, I need to move down there yesterday! A place like that in my town would be $1500 a month if it was near the city center, and that is without any utilities !

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's typical of any space that's away from the center for any city. The further away from walking convenience, the cheaper it is. For me, that's not gonna work bc I won't have a vehicle at my disposal. It works out cheaper for me to live in the center & not to invest in a car. Bringing your own vehicle is expensive, buying a Mexican vehicle isn't cheap either, also fuel is way more expensive in MX, as is car insurance and technically it's difficult to lease a vehicle as a foreigner. Tbh the more gringos away from the center, the more likely they'll gentrify the area. I'd rather expats congregate in one area so that we don't drive up costs for the locals who stand to get affected by our occupation of their region.

    • @alex-wittman
      @alex-wittman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've gotten away with not having a car for 3.5 years, so it's definitely doable.

  • @beachlife8367

    First, that apartment was....wow! I liked pretty much everything about it. I liked how the outdoor space is part of the overall space: the way you have to go through the outdoor area to get to the kitchen and bathroom. It's like the outdoor space is the living room, but it's just outside. For me, that was pretty cool.
    Second: I wanted to know from Alex (and anyone else who is knowledgeable can chime in): with month-to-month renting like this, has/did your friend run into issues with the landlord increasing the rental amount over time, forcing her to move out for whatever reason, or anything else that might come with not having any sort of official signed, paper lease agreement? OR did she have some sort of agreement on paper that she could refer back to? That's all I had for now. Again, great video as always.

    It’s great to see others find great places to live at reasonable price. I pay 128.00 a month in a fraccionamiento with security and maintenance included. It’s a 2 bedroom, in a great area. This is in Toluca, Mexico

    Great videos. Thanks for your hard work. I have one question regarding your advice to stay in or check out the Airbnb before agreeing to long term commitment. In principle I agree 100%. But in practice how do I travel from the US, get to Mexico and stay in the Airbnb, then negotiate an agreement for a long term stay? I imagine they may have bookings after my initial stay? Any clarification is appreciated. Thanks again for the great content.

    • @alex-wittman
      @alex-wittman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If it's a super popular Airbnb with lots of bookings, the host probably won't be interested in a long-term rental. Consider looking outside the city center & booking a place for a few days. Telling them that you looked ahead and saw they don't have any future bookings could be a bargaining point in your negotiations with them.

  • @ebouwens
    @ebouwens 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Really well thought out and great advice. Your friend is also so charming and had such good ideas for making the place her own. It seemed to me that Airbnb has some filtering to prevent you from taking the conversation off of their platform. How do you get around that?

I bought 2 more for 90k each and sold them for 225k each last month... don't chase cheap living to save a few hundred dollars.... buy real estate .. then take your cash and do what u want in Mexico or wherever.. then buy the next down cycle.. cheers!

Perhaps, it's not cheap living but that she is new to the area..only been there 6 months she said so buying homes may not have been what she was looking to do immediately. Not sure why you would tell someone else that they made a mistake.. everything is personal preference. Are you going to send her 80k to buy a house.. 🤷

    Curious..I dont think many youtube folks recommend the (several) mexico or south American based apartment finder sites. I've found them to be immensely better than fb marketplace in terms of availability and price. With the ABNB strategy...you are depending on your host being interested in taking you on long term at a much lower rate than they can get for short term in popular tourist cities this is an unlikely win imho.

    Do you think finding a long term bnb rental in Centro is possible? If so, what would a place like that go for?

    • @alex-wittman
      @alex-wittman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whether or not it's possible really depends on your budget. You should expect to pay significantly more in the centro since hosts don't have as much trouble booking out short term stays. I would expect to pay at least $500 USD.

    Does that include air conditioning? And if not, would the landlord get mad if you put your own window a/c unit up, as the electric bill would go up a lot.

      Her apartment doesn't have A/C. You'd need to talk to the landlord, but I'm sure they would be willing to work something out. Depending on where you live in the city, electricity is affordable.

    Hi, Alex. I'm 69 y o Canadian retiree. I have watched tonnes of videos about the best places to retire, about apartments and so on.. Non of them are useful for me, because the completely ignore my (and most of retirees) enemy #1 NOISE. It doesn't matter how much nice and cheap an apartment is if the street vendors are shouting 20 hours a day under my windows, I can not stay in.
    Is it possible to find a quite place in Mexico?

    Alex, Great video!! Further, thank you for always being well dressed and looking classic. It's easier to take you seriously than so many other TH-camrs. I'm glad I found you! I don't if you've heard of Vagabond Awake and the very detailed info they offer on living in various places in Mexico You might find that interesting also. We live in Mexico and have lived in many places. Queretaro is our next destination and we will use Monica of House Hunting Queretaro as we do not have the luxury of time due to our work commitments. She is paid by the landlords, hence there is no fee. She is easy to find on FB and is great for those of us who don't have the time to hunt ourselves. We learned of here from other TH-camrs (Serg & Tana) facebook.com/House-Hunting-Queretaro-1982608731749423/ Gracias!

    I left Chicago due to the genocides, and high rents, utilities etc. I had to be ALERT on those trying to eliminate me, including a family member for my life insurance policy.
    I move to Oak Park, and Waukegan, and at the age of 79, I moved to beautiful, safe, and clean Queretaro, Mexico on 11-2-2021, and will get a temp retirement Visa. It is $850 less expensive living here per month, and my furnished apartment, includes all utilities and excellent WiFi, with a beautiful view of all of the city. It is a gated community with 24/7 security and cameras.I can still have groceries delivered to my door, and there is not a shortage or limits so far.It is up to us to demand a safe community. The police do not play here! I was born in Chicago, but the USA better protect our citizens, and let Putin deal with his country.
