This is a very different video from what I usually make, but I really enjoyed working on it! I'm a bit of a research nerd (hello, PhD), and I love digging into weird topics like this one and finding answers to tough and obscure questions. The VR/AR contact lenses topic has been on my mind for a while! And I finally looked into it and decided to share my findings with you :) Hope you'll enjoy it, and let me know if you enjoy this type of videos so that I know if I should be making more of them in the future!
If it were me I would make them purely a passive display. Then you wear glasses frames to activate the monitors. The frames have the drivers and the batteries, and a Bluetooth. Your phone does the heavy lifting. So phone to frames, frames to lenses. If you aren't wearing frames then they are just regular contact lenses.
I usually would say nope to putting anything into my eye. Until I think about having full FOV, I would put something in my eye if it gives me full FOV in VR. Seeing your periphery is so under appreciated but adds so much immersion.
I agree, but nowadays you have to make sure to clarify... with clear vision no distortions, no aliasing, no screen door effect, have true vibrant colors with no washed out black levels, high hertz for smooth motion and I guess good ear buds would be the sound and mic source. And lets not forget they need to be open sourced with awesome controllers not closed like Apple Vision Pro.
Not sure about AR contact lenses, but for people with dementia having the names of people and their relationship to the AR device wearer projected onto the environment might provide a significant quality of life improvement...
Great video! I think I'd rather have a pair of true AR glasses though ngl. I dont wanna have to put something in my eye every day. Also, is there an issue with the volume levels or is it just my headphones being weird?
I think we also need to consider disposability. These lenses have to be cheap enough that they can be replaced fairly regularly. Personally I’m not sure how I’d feel about contacts and I’m definitely an early adopter. I’d probably stick with the glasses or I’d go all in and get an ocular implant.
A genuinely practical version of this is multiple decades away imo, if it's ever even truly possible to achieve everything you'd want in XR in such a small form factor in reality. Some basic AR overlays is all fine and dandy, but that's really not the "VR" dream for this kind of tech that we've been promised in sci-fi movies for decades. I think around normal glasses size but with slightly thicker frames really is the most realistic form factor to focus on and look forward to from XR within our lifetimes. And I think that will be genuinely brilliant and more than ideal for most people. And those I would and indeed will absolutely wear.
People said it would take millions of years b4 we get a plane and nine weeks later the first flight was done I think we have just a few years before we get these (imo🤓👆)
I have extreme eyes pain every day I'm never putting this in my eyes while hair hurts. But if they can make it this small then just make very light glasses
I'm skeptical that mojovision had a working prototype that matched the claims they were making. There's lots of companies that overpromise or exaggerate to maintain funding.
we will use lenses to enhance VR glasses field of view before we will see this type of augmentation. power/charging could be done wirelessly because the frames of these glasses are close enough to the contact lenses for this to work. the real future will be eye tracking and led lasers that track your eyes.. this actually already exists and has been showcased at display week. but i am talking about a device you place on your coffee table and it tracks not just your eyes but everyone's eyes in the room and it casts literal holographic imagery in your pupils. now imagine this technology in the hands of the enemy on the battlefield and you start seeing things that aren't real.
Well... a baby has to learn to "Walk", before he/she can start trying to "Run". In the same way, to get to the specialized (micro) XR Technology for making affordable (mass produced...) Contact Lenses: XR Glasses should be created and popularized. And when they sell it within the same price range as the Meta Quest 2, which I own..., I'll buy them...😅👍🏻💯. I also believe that Humanity (Mentally and Spiritually...) is not prepared to become semi-Cyborgs... People get anxious for just thinking about using a machine that reads their Mind... So even Elon M. will have it rough trying to make people to want his products in the next decade. We need Humanity to EVOLVE to make those things a Reality (and I can't wait for that exciting future, honestly). I at least hope someone make a set of XR Glasses, lighter and more easy to put on/ take off (that the Quest 2 and 3). It would be a good step in that direction 🎮💯😄
we will for sure have a GIANT central computer for million of user.... people will no longer have computer whit them... only gadget connected whit this SUPER COMPUTER..

A fascinating deep dive on the subject. Thank you!
Great concept- As a daily glasses/contacts and VR user, sign me up!
Nice video. I've been follow the lenses vr/ar technology for I think 6 or 7 years now. It's super intressthing.

I know it’s hard to imagine! I don’t even like putting on regular contracts 🥲 but 15 years from now, anything can happen
sick

I don't even like normal contact lenses. But this was a nice informative video.

I think body heat or solar energy might be ideal for lenses
I believe that in 10 years we will be able to have these ocular devices, that is only for a select group of people since it will be high cost.

Cool idea but how about they just make it so when you enter your iPad you can also put in your lens prescription and walla no add on needed
I would be happy with something the size of metas current glasses.
Got a set in there screaming out my ear delaying my vision and blinding me and saying all kinds of bad stuff
I think the next step is vr smart glasses not vr lenses

video watching from India

Replacing the entire eye would prob be more viable...
Kiroshi
Why not put it inside normal glasses?
I pass haha!! i Prefer something like thin glasses
I hear you! I don’t like putting in regular contacts, not even mentioning something with microchips. But 15-20 years from now.. who knows!
It's a great idea, but we really need to be funding environmental protection and disease prevention first.

FIRST!!!
hellooo!
I think I would have reached my limit if you planted something in my brain.
im the first viewer lessgooooo
let's goo :D
Yea sure I’ll have Apple M3 chip in my eyes
Never ?
we will for sure have a GIANT central computer for million of user.... people will no longer have computer whit them... only gadget connected whit this SUPER COMPUTER..
Technologically interesting but no thanks!
Yeah no thanks
