yeah it's no joke! i feel like with riffs like these, it comes out of the guitarist's natural areas of experimentation built up over years, so it's comparatively 'easy' for them but super challenging to learn because you have to absorb someone else's whole lifetime of style
A lot of people deservingly praise him for that amazing voice, but I think his talent as a guitar player tends to get seriously overlooked. The guy was an excellent guitarist who could pull off a lot of different styles, and I think even that can be heard in the music of the artists he influenced (Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, etc). Maybe it's just me, but he also had the best first name anyone could ask for... 😉
Michael Tighe only co-wrote “So Real” and Gary Lucas was all of the guitar parts on Grace/Mojo Pin. Jeff changed the title of Grace from “rise up to be” I believe but the song was already a Gods & Monsters live track. EDIT: I guess you could also say John Cale wrote the notes for the piano arrangement that Jeff’ “Hallelujah” cover is based on, as well. The notes are way different from the Cohen original. sorry, being a total dork. Jeff was the absolute GOAT. May he never fade.
Each song has its own distinct riff that carries not just a hook but an emotional vibe. That makes each song a little world. Bands could learn a lot from this
God, “Grace” is immaculate. Big ups to the homie Gary Lucas for writing that one and “Mojo Pin.” How did you nail that riff so well? How does ANYONE nail that riff???
I don't think anyone really nails it. It also occurred to me while practicing it that the main intro riff is doubled up with a 12-string, probably Jeff's Rickenbacker. That's probably why it never really sounds right when anyone plays it.
oh yeah! what an incredible musician he was. him and thom yorke were like parallel wizards for me to discover in the 90s but sadly jeff was taken too soon.
Thanks for this! His talent as a guitarist was indeed somehow overlooked. Danny Carey from tool, with whom he played in 1988-ish, was surprised his voice was at the forefront - he basically said something to the effect of "What's this singing BS? Your a phenomenal guitar player!"
His use of open tunings, different time signatures and use of unusual chords totally changed my approach to my own guitar playing. His playing has a subtle complexity to it that is probably mostly appreciated by other musicians.
I know it was written by someone else, but What Would You Say, is the one I always go back to. That and Mojo Pin. The live show on German television, has pretty good recordings and his vocals sound great on it.
Excellent playing all around. His version of Hallelujah still moves me on every listen. Personally, would add 'Lover You Should've Come Over' specifically for the epic chord walk-up section in the chorus
Isn't almost all the guitar writed by Jeff's co-composer? He was my favourite singer but give credit to that guy. Sorry I have to edit: Gary Lucas is one of the compossers of some of this guitar parts.
Shoutout to Gary Lucas
0:01 Can't stop, addicted to the- Oh wait, wrong song.
L o L
It reminds me of that too lol
Road version goes from Db to E in the intro weirdly enough
i instanlty thought the same
😂
He was Page and Plant in the same body. Lots of unusual chords and he performed them while singing like an angel. Legend
What a brilliant way of putting it. His talent was immense.
Someone’s seen the Brad Pitt interview
I saw a story that Page wanted to do an album with Jeff before his death, he thought Jeff was the new Plant basically.
Jeff Buckley is such an underrated guitarist
That opening riff to Grace is so damn difficult. It's pretty incredible to see him play it live where he played it faster than on the album.
Yeah he plays it so effortlessly too.
yeah it's no joke! i feel like with riffs like these, it comes out of the guitarist's natural areas of experimentation built up over years, so it's comparatively 'easy' for them but super challenging to learn because you have to absorb someone else's whole lifetime of style
Exactly!
Even the chords of the pre-chorus in Grace are hard and beautiful to play! I mean play them correctly 😅

5:10 that slide was never seen again
One of the most impressive things about your videos is you always absolutely nail the tone.
Thank you.
ALWAYS!

Jeff Buckley was so amazing. Can only imagine how much more great music he would have made!
A pioneer of post rock Rest in Peace Jeff. Thanks for the video lots of love from Wales
Nailed his tone, well done!
Thank you!
This was excellent! Yard of Blonde Girls is another fun riff-driven song if you’re looking for early Buckley songs to learn.
adding Vancouver
Is anything other than Grace by Jeff that is worth listening? I'm just getting into his music
Everything on Grace. Sketches From My Sweetheart The Drunk, the live stuff is incredible too. The live versions have a different energy to them.
Isn't that kinda late rather than early? It's from Sketches.
@@bloxsy_ thank you!
the intro of ‘mama, you’ve been on my mind’ might be some of his best work
Amazing work. Last Goodbye was particularly good❤
Thank you!
oh yeah! what an incredible musician he was. him and thom yorke were like parallel wizards for me to discover in the 90s but sadly jeff was taken too soon.
Nice selection. He was a great singer and guitarist. R.I.P. Jeff
Great video. I would also suggest Vancouver if you do a second one and have a 12 string.
Dream Brother is one of my all time favorite songs. Thank you for this! These riffs are pretty challenging and you did amazing.
Thank you. Yeah they are tricky for sure
Great video and great work! I would've added I Woke Up in a Strange Place (Though we only have an official live recording) for riffs because it slaps.
Goddamn I love that song!
Seeing this in my recommendations absolute made my day!!!!
Clicked on like before the first riff because I love Jeff and you always do a great job with these vids anyway!
Thanks. I appreciate the like!
Fantastic job as usual.
Jeff was a ridiculously talented individual
Thanks for this! His talent as a guitarist was indeed somehow overlooked. Danny Carey from tool, with whom he played in 1988-ish, was surprised his voice was at the forefront - he basically said something to the effect of "What's this singing BS? Your a phenomenal guitar player!"
I think I read somewhere that he studied at the L.A guitar institute. He was probably an even better guitarist than what we hear on the records.
Jeff's got fucking riffs alright
You will always be famous jeff buckley
Damn, no Lover You Should've Come Over?
His use of open tunings, different time signatures and use of unusual chords totally changed my approach to my own guitar playing. His playing has a subtle complexity to it that is probably mostly appreciated by other musicians.
You are amazing for doing this❤❤🙏🙏
You really surprise me, you do it very well!
Thank you
Jeff Buckley is my Elvis
Very very good. I wish I could play like you. Thanks for sharing some great tunes !
Last Goodbye and Nightmares By The Sea are my favourites here.
i remember asking for this video ❤
Great selection mate, id say 'what would you say' which is a great riff and makes me tear up 😢
Thanks mate. I haven’t heard that one. I’ll have to check it out.
Jeff went to GIT so was a proper LA shredder before he got into his songwriting. We missed out on so much music :(
Crikey, you nailed it here, dude. Some of this sounds (dare I say it) better than the original recordings
👍.
Total tingles when Dream Brother kicked in. 🤩
I know it was written by someone else, but What Would You Say, is the one I always go back to. That and Mojo Pin.
The live show on German television, has pretty good recordings and his vocals sound great on it.
Hi bloxsy, good afternoon, congratulations by your video, cheers and have a nice weekend for you and #jeffbuckley4ever!!!!!!!!
freaking incredible tone bro😭😭😭😭
Nailed it. I always loved last good bye
Nice, Grace the album is as old as Jeff (30) on 23rd August.
Excellent playing all around. His version of Hallelujah still moves me on every listen. Personally, would add 'Lover You Should've Come Over' specifically for the epic chord walk-up section in the chorus
That ascending section is unreal. And walking back down to the E minor afterward is also deliciously satisfying
opened once is so easy it's great
yessssss
Amazing!
Thanks!
It’s there that we see the inspiration of Radiohead !
Great 🎉
Замечательный был музыкант, не хуже своего отца.
Fun fact my current Sound Arts teacher in college knew Jeff Buckley personally :)
This is History
Morning theft is one of his best songs for me
What will you say is one of my favourite riffs/songs by Jeff

You're showing a bit too much chin in this one bloxy I'm not happy

Sorry I have to edit: Gary Lucas is one of the compossers of some of this guitar parts.
Ah yes that's true! There were co-writers. I have to amend my description.
@@bloxsy_ It's okey, I love Grace sooo much
Shame the guy took a swim before finishing my sweetheart the drunk
❤
