    Jeff was a fan of artist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a Sufi singer, who possibly inspired him in his falsetto style. Jeff had a diverse vocal range, from the harshness of havy metal to opera.

      Yes, the way young lovers do at sin e showcases both his singing and guitar work. he scats and really shows what he's vocally capable of. His voice is so good that many don't notice how proficient he is at guitar. That's a testament to how good his voice is but this song displays his great guitar work too.

    You should have a look at a duet he did, All The Flowers Bend Towards The Sun, which also features, Elizabeth Fraser. Vocalist with The Cocteau Twins, sometimes she is referred to as, "The Voice Of God". Often she sings in a sort of personal language, She'll blow you away.

    I love what you said about his “gentleness.” That’s really the essence of what sets him apart from others.

    I don't think of myself as a huge Jeff Buckley fan or anything, but his performance of Grace, live on the BBC, is phenomenal. It really showcases him at his vocal best. If you're interested in reacting to another one of his songs, that'd be a great choice.
    Also, perhaps check out the live version of "Mojo Pin" from Chicago when you get a chance. His vocal flourishes are different and more impressive, I think, than the Glastonbury performance.
    I always enjoy your content. Keep doing what you do.

    • @MindAlteringHugs
      @MindAlteringHugs 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      His performance of Grace live on NPA is even better, respectfully. He's emotionally stressed on the BBC one because the host compares Jeff to his absent father and you can tell by his mood (and Jeff flipping his middle fingers in the introduction).
      The NPA version is more creative, has a better live sound, an actual live audience which the whole band feels + reacts to and Jeff is free... doing his vocal improv at his peak. And that's what made him even more special. So just my opinion, BBC is fine because it's Jeff Buckley but Grace Live on NPA is as they say - "Chef's Kiss." 👌
      Thank you Aaliyah. This was both fun and I learned something about baroque music at the same time. 👍
      Love from Ukraine.

    • @g3synth205
      @g3synth205 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MindAlteringHugs I respectfully disagree about the NPA performance. I had a similar interaction with another person in the YT comments who had the same opinion, so I listened to them back to back.
      I think "emotionally distressed" is a bit, at least, of an exaggeration. He was probably mildly annoyed at most. I also don't think he flipped the middle fingers in the intro. It looks more to me like he throws his hands in the air as if to say, sarcastically, "hooray! I love being compared to my father!".
      The ending of the NPA performance seems really disjointed to me. The same little vocal riff he ends the BBC performance with seems placed in an awkward spot near the end (but not at the very end) of the NPA performance. Like he thought, "oh yeah, I need to include that before I finish". If you find the NPA performance video with the intro in French, go to the 5 minute mark of that video and watch till the end. Then watch the BBC performance from that verse on. The vocal transitions in the BBC performance seem way more clean to me.
      Anyway, the NPA performance is good, but, to me, the BBC performance is the one that is practically flawless.

    • @MindAlteringHugs
      @MindAlteringHugs 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@g3synth205Stressed not "distressed". Important difference. And please I don't want to pretend like I knew what is going on in this guy's head or what or what he was thinking about what verse because that is pure crazy. Божевільний! I just said he was flipping off the BBC and their host with 2 middle fingers in one and had his wings in another. I also disagree about the vocal riff whatever you are talking about. In my 20 years of watching that, it wasn't even a vocal riff it was Jeff Buckley. That's how flawlessly it works. You listen to 1000 versions and that's the beauty. He did not think. He flew.

    I only discovered him in the early 00's, grew to love his music in a couple of months, only to be heartbroken to learn of his earlier passing.
    Regardless, I'm glad to have discovered him when I did, and love covering some of his popular hits in karaoke.

    Jeff Buckley and his father Tim Buckley both released some of the most beautiful music and each possessed a haunting voice. Both died much too early, Tim at the age of 28 and Jeff at the age of 30. If you are not familiar with Tim Buckley, I suggest you check him out when you can. Might I suggest "Song to the Siren" as a great starting point.

    Thank you for this video, I really appreciated seeing you actually feeling the music. And the "little things" you pointed out, his intonations and his conviction, how tonaly rich his voice sounds - I'm really happy that there is someone who shares my excitement about this, instead of making just superficial/basic or cliche statements
    Now, look, I know everyone and their dog has recommended you another Jeff's song, blah blah, and you probably won't read this.
    But if you do - hear me out real quick. These moments/riffs/techniques you mentioned that peaked your excitement - I know exactly what you mean. And listen, there is one other song from this concert, What Will You Say (Glastonbury). The "switch" as you called it he does in that performance and the notes he reaches and just the general beauty of the song - it's mind-altering. I adore all Jeff's songs, but the Glastonbury performance of What Will You Say is surely the most powerful.
    What I'm saying is, just check it out, just for yourself, without making a video or whatever.
    The run he does at 4:30 is the most beautiful vocal piece of music I've heard in my life, and I listen to A LOT of music. Literary brings me to tears still, and I'm a 36 year old man, living a hard life haha)

    Matt Bellamy is heavily influenced by Jeff buckley as a Singer/guitar frontman. Sunburn is a good/prime example of early MUSE and Matt channeling Jeff in guitar/progression as well as vocal/octave to song/build and pacing.

    of course theyll be more technical vocalists BUT for a rock/songwriter he has to be the greatest vocalist of all time for that genre. His tonality and control ... wow. Not to mention how good he is as a guitarist, songwriter. The guy was on another level. Gentics. Watch his documentary, Sony wanted him to replace the boss,.

He's been said to have the widest vocal range of any vocalist out there in the history of music. It's a rabbit hole worth going down! I'd start with Midlife Crisis from Faith No More, then maybe From Out Of Nowhere by the same. Then maybe try Quote Unquote from Mr. Bungle.😉
