  • This video is referring to GMT-800 trucks with the newer style steering wheel (2003-2007 Classic). Any truck, suv or van with this style of steering wheel, the fix should apply. I can not confirm if the older trucks internals look the same.
We go over the dreaded horn issue in Chevy's, GMC's and Cadillac's. I can't say this is the only fix for a horn issue, but this is what worked in my scenario and has been plaguing me for years. Hopefully it helps you out too.
When work around items like an airbag it is highly recommended you have an experienced professional perform the work.

THIS. If your horn works with the panic button and not the steering wheel button, this is 99% the problem. Another one of those universal problems these trucks all share, that are insanely easy to fix. You absolute legend, thank you!

$500 three times at the stealership to replace the allegedy faulty clock spring, and it came down to just this. I actually stretched the spring out and the horn now works perfectly. Who knows what future disaster you've helped me avoid with the insane drivers in my city and a horn that kept failing. Anthony I can't thank you enough for this video!

My horn went from intermittently working to not at all. I disco-ed the battery, pulled the airbag back enough to rotate the connector out. Roughed up the tip with a file, put on flux and added a couple mm of solder to the tip without removing its connectors. I also stretched the spring as best I could. Horn works again! Awesome fix!

Several years ago I sold my 2003 Silverado 1500 to get a 2500. The next day the buyer called me to complain that the horn did not work. I had watched this video and stretched out the spring like one of the commenters did (because I suck at soldering) and it worked fine (until I sold it). I told him about this video and offered to refund $100 for his time. He took it to the dealer instead, paid $500 for the repair, and wanted me to reimburse him. I told him to close his eyes and tell me what he saw. Nothing? "That's what you get!"
Now several years later my 2004 2500 is doing the same thing. This time I did solder the tip and it works like a champ! Thank you!

3 years of no horn, getting ready to replace clock spring.
    Found your video.
    Fixed in 5 minutes.
BTW, like others in the comments, the white connector slides on the wires, so merely stretching the spring, fixed the problem!
    Thank you so much!

Oh God, I couldn't imagine having to go through an actual safety inspection in my 01 2500. This thing would fail miserably. I barely bumped a piece of concrete with the lower shock mount on driver rear pulling the truck out after I'd gotten stuck on another little raised bit of concrete and the tire on the other side was in mud and found something that popped the sidewall, anyway, wheel took a chain and boom to break loose where the aluminum seized to the axle. Then I get it changed and an hour or two later on my way to work, the weld on the shock mount gives, taking the brake line with it. Should've never been routed down there in harm's way in the first place, but GM being the cheap dirty people they are wanted to save a bolt and mount it with the e brake cable. Which also really should be mounted above the axle out of danger from most road debris and such. There was even a nut and flange welded to the axle tube on top for it. Which is where I went after I cut the line clean and re-flaired and re-bent it for it's new home. They should've been allowed to go bankrupt, they should not be in business. Their products are just not safe. Not even getting into the electrical...cough:ignition:cough

Worked on the 2002 Silerado here. I used another video to reference the different access on the older truck, XbO9Ol7UlQI ,TH-cam video id. They also recommended puling the air bag fuse and I did do that. The insides appeared the same. I cleaned the plunger contact with WD-40 and that got the horn working. That plastic cap for the plunger or whatever is bogus. I had trouble getting that to seat. Thanks!

I found a wolo "bad boy" horn in the shop, from like the 90's I remember seeing them at parts stores. I hooked it up to one, cause pretty sure it was dead just by how horrible it sounded when it DID work. This new one is LOUD! Sounds like a set of the trumpet horns but it's not much bigger than the stock horns. It's got 2 horns built into one large compressor, same size that comes with the trumpet kits. Thinking of trying to find another one for the other side.

Thanks a LOT dude, this looks like it will surely fix mine. It will work if I press it just right, and keep working consistently if I find the right touch. Only problem is, it hardly ever works when I NEED it! I just keep punching the stupid thing, and nothing. Before I added an old school wolo I found in the shop it was REALLY bad even if it did, one was dead for sure. Haven't even tested to see if the one I spliced off of was the bad one or not. Doesn't really matter now, cause this "Bad Boy" horn lives up to it's name. I may try the 4 horns from a caddy as well, never realized they had different horns. Of course GM puts the cheap crap in Chevy products, even the LT trim that this truck has. I was about to just wire in a momentary switch for the horn.
