I wanted to say thank you so much. I have grown up loving the pin striping art and I have had this depressing feeling of the fact I’ll make too many mistakes and you never see mistakes by great pinstriping artists but you’re an amazing pinstriping artist and I watched you fix it and show us ways on how to fix mistakes which beginners and experts will make. You’ve made me feel so much better about learning and doing pin striping I just ordered my first pinstriping brushes and paint. Thanks again.
This is a fantastic vid. Thank you so much for sharing it. I heard an artist say something years ago that really stuck. He said something to the effect of: The mark of a good artist is not how few the errors are; it is how he fixes the errors. GREAT JOB! I'm headed to the shop to play with my swords now.
I found that starting out with asymmetrical pinstriping gave me instant results I could live with, without trying to get two sides identical right out of the box, and getting disappointed.... Then as I got more confident, I started doing more symmetrical/traditional stuff....
A nicely done introduction to pinstriping. Good info with little downtime in the video. Nice job. WRT oil on the brushes, mineral oil (or the motor oil, though I like the clear mineral oil better) is non hardening, and will help displace the hardening oils in the enamels in addition to keeping oxygen away from them. Bottom line is that your brushes won't stiffen up in storage. You can also scrub the enamel oil out with soap/water, but that's hard on high end natural bristles, so this is better.
thanks for the dot trick!! i wanted to mention that always starting with your non dominant hand side. so you're right handed start on the left of center, it's easier to replicate.
@Brian Williams, one other "Trick" that I was taught by an old timer pinstriper, was to use a compass from an old draftsman drawing set to get perfect circles especially around trunk locks and door locks. The draftsmanship compass has two blades that are charged with ink between the blades and draws the circle onto the paper, he advised me to file down the blades until they were blunt and they pick up the paint like the ink. The only time that he used vinyl tape was over the trunk lock hole for the point of the compass to pierce and not move around. He said that before vinyl tape he'd carry around corks of different sizes to stick into the trunk lock and get the centre. Clever stuff!
Thanks for bringing up the direction of the brush for us left-handers.. The training I got always said the flat part always faces the left which would mean always faces the right for southpaws
Doug...my friend.. you have the BEST beginner video on here! just letting you know this! i have seen others on here...your's has been the most informative and easy to view! You are helping me learn how to do this...so thanks buddy! Voodoo larry uses 10w30 too for his brushes..and the ol' magazine trick too...so i think between learning from your tuitorial and asking questions to my buddy Mark Hagstrom as well.. i should be good to go! * just waiting on my paint that's in transit*
Great video! I'm looking at getting into the art; bought a couple of brushes, paints, and other bits of kit and this was very informative! Loved the deck art in this also! I'd recommend that before anyone even wet their first brush to watch this vid! Thanks guys!
I began pinstriping today on some paper with One Shot and reducing with enamel, is there a reason why the paint is fading kinda instantly? Could it be the paper? I spray painted it with a flat black enamel.
Only question I have is if this paint you use is ok to use over a clear coat or do you need to apply a clear afterwards ? and if I wanted to stripe a motorcycle tank do I need to use a special paint to not require a clear coat afterwards ? Awesome work by the way, and great hands man.
Excaliber's have green wrap plus a shorter hair length. This looks like an old Mack 10 series blue wrap that has darkened over time from paint and motor oil he uses to clean and preserve it.
Hi! Thank You for sharing, this is GREAT!! Just when I think DoRr is done,,he keeps embellishing even more flair, and it's just perfect!! Very inspiring vid :) Now,,I wonder how much a design like that cost the customer?? Maybe it's already in another video,,this is the first one I have viewed...Well worth watching several times,,he is very talented! Love the color choice as well,,really illuminated! :)
I bought a mack series 10 00 brush off eBay and its very fuzzy. looks nothing like all the brushes I see where they are all perfect shaped swords. Did the guy send me the wrong one or do I have to set it up or something?
at the beginning he said use a new razor blade to trim it. they won't come out of the box ready to use. unless it doesn't even look close to what he's using, hope this helps
Excellent the video makes me want to go right out and start pin stripping right away. I have some questions, can you pinstripe over gloss clear coat, can you clear coat over pinstripe and since I have no other option can you pinstripe outdoors. If you can, pin stripe outdoors I am guessing that you want to do so in a shaded area and water down the area to keep dust down.
@ngadino more, he's using 1shot enamel paint so it doesn't need a clear coat. In fact, enamel paint sometimes react with acrylic paint and cause them to blister and bleed. House of Kolor does some amazing pinstriping acrylic paints that "feel" like enamel paint as you're pulling a line but they dry very quickly and can be buried under clear. It's all about how you want your pinstriping to look.
@@joseywales3789 I still need to learn in this matter because I have tried applying enamel paint with a clear coat finish and it really takes patience to avoid curling in the final result. thank you friends for the information always keep your health 🙏🏾🙏🏾👍🏾

@Talon Alec yea, have been using Flixzone for since april myself =)

I'm an airbrush artist and will be starting to pinstripe this summer. Thanks for the video! Nice!
I always look for a little bit of inconsistencies when I see pin-striping, then I appreciate that someone took the time to paint that design.
Great video! I'm looking at getting into the art; bought a couple of brushes, paints, and other bits of kit and this was very informative!
Loved the deck art in this also! I'd recommend that before anyone even wet their first brush to watch this vid!

To store the brush you can use listed oil.

Great video. Thanks for the help. Keep posting, tips and tricks. Very informative.
Very nice. Most people would not know where to begin with a pattern.
Just a quick Question, does it matter if it is enamel? Could u possibly use other types of paint?
My brush seems to have a kink in the hairs at the tip- it curves off like a check mark... How do u fix it?
You make it look too easy! Excellent video! Thank you!
So cool, thank you very much for sharing!
Looks clean definitely give it a shot....
Is there a size brush you recommend to start with, a 0 or 00? I want to start with one brush to practice with for a while.
Looks like fun, I really like your style, very cool. Thanks for the video.

Very nice design. Thank you for the very informative video! I am going to try this technique soon...
What clear coat do you use to seal all that art?
I bought a mack series 10 00 brush off eBay and its very fuzzy. looks nothing like all the brushes I see where they are all perfect shaped swords. Did the guy send me the wrong one or do I have to set it up or something?

once you dip the brush in spirits or paint it will look like a brush and not a fuzzy stick, they come dry new. Make sure you oil it when not in use :)
some guy
