    I personally think that we're actually in one of the best moments of transformers right now. The thing that really has made all the WFC trilogy that great to me is the coherence in scale and styling, and the fact that we now have a minimum standard articulation. Of course the plastic is nothing compared to the materials they used to implement in the beginning of the line, but in comparison to what we've gotten in the last 10 years, now the plastic is in an acceptable degree. Another thing that I really consider an improvement is the engineering becoming ultra efficient, making the toys more intuitive while giving space por good articulation. The mayor downside has to be how irregular the QC has gotten, that's the big reason I try to keep me away from Studio series, even I do like the designs, but the geewan stuff and Beastwars too have been so far pretty solid.
    Now in terms of design, I do think the re imagining factor was great, but after re-imagining the designs tons of times in every single sub line, having some stuff closer to the source material was good too. Of course I really miss the old quality plastic and the separation of the clear to the solid plastic, but I do believe that the more clever engineering going on right now really makes up for the lacking points.
    Now I'm really concerned about the pricing, but is more because how stupidly expensive the dollar in my county has been in the last years goddamnit

    I also prefer fresh takes, but isn't this also the first time they've made highly accurate g1 figures in the mainline? I could be wrong, but I think every other time has been an homage rather than an actual attempt to recreate what we see onscreen with modern tech. I say let them have it, I'll be happy as long as I get some interesting figures.
    My favorite era is probably rotf / hftd too. I feel like they really hit their stride with movie toys or (even better) movie-like toys. Original designs that were not limited by a model made for the screen, yet still had the engineering and aesthetic.

      No, not really... Before you continue whining about G1, consider the fact that WITHOUT G1, there'd be NO G2, NO BW/BM, NO RiD, NO Unicron Trilogy, NO Bayformery movie $#!t, NO Animated, NO Prime, No Cyberverse, NO Rescue Bots, NO NOTHING... JUST Gobots probably...
      So go ahead and do your whining & complaining about G1, but while you do that, JUST remember that if the rest of US G1 fans weren't buying and demanding the bulk of the TF stuff Hasbro produces... YOU and others LIKE YOU, couldn't get ANY of the figures from series' YOU prefer, at ALL, because for the most part, there's NOT enough of YOU to support entire lines, WITHOUT US putting OUR money down too...
      I'm not a G2 OR a BW/BM fan AT ALL, but I don't go around whining about Hasbro producing THOSE figures for fans of those lines to enjoy, because they took up slots that COULD have been used for a deserving G1 update figure... Do you know WHY?
      For ONE, I'm not a selfish whiner, and I actually LIKE it when OTHER people get some figures from lines THEY enjoy. If I don't like them, I don't have to buy them, but I don't whine about them getting something I DON'T care for myself. Also, if it's a cool figure that maybe I wouldn't normally like, I can buy one too, if I want.
      Secondly, even if I DON'T LIKE a particular TF line, I STILL respect where it came from (G1) and what it represents, with the potential to be something really good... Even that Bay crap, which I hate watching and 97% of the toys, occasionally has some good stuff.
      Basically, it begins AND ends with G1, whether anyone likes it or not. That's just how it is.
      Constantly whining around about it doesn't do YOU, or anyone else, any good, BUT IT does annoy people, like that constantly buzzing around in your face little gnat during the summer... JUST saying.
      Learn to appreciate, or at least develop some respect for certain things, instead of whining relentlessly about them. You'll be a lot happier in life. ALSO, THIS IS A HOBBY, learn to ENJOY it!!! Don't let it control your life.
      For the record, as I mentioned, I'm NOT a G2 OR BW/BM fan, BUT when Hasbro produces a GOOD updated (G3) figure derived from those lines, I buy it. I've bought several of the BW inspired Kingdom figures this past year, ALONG WITH those G1/G1 Movie updated figures, and I look forward to hopefully picking up some 2001 RiD inspired update figures for my collection, as I still have MOST of the figures from that line, but would love G3 versions... Same with G2, Unicron Trilogy, etc.,
      Stop whining about things and just ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE... Eventually, they'll produce what you want. 😉😅😅

    Okay, THANK YOU.
    I’ve recently been looking to pad out my G1 ‘modern’ collection. Up until now I’d really only stuck to heavy IDW-centric stuff. (Gen Magnus, Springer, Skids, that sorta stuff!)
    But now I wanted to get the full cast. Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Tracks, .. and in choosing… I went with the ‘CHUG’ era ones. Like when looking to get a new Wheeljack (which just arrived today) I went with the Generations one. Someone asked me ‘why not just get the newest ones?’ And I couldn’t quite explain why I didn’t really love the look n feel of the new ones, but you hit the nail on the head. It’s about the quality, the heft, the feel. And in large part still also it’s simply because of aesthetic. The ‘older’ CHUC stuff just had more visually interesting designs and most importantly it had the most fun transformations. New ones feel too simplified. They’re effective, that’s for sure. But I love the creativity of the old ones, that would impact the robot mode more substantially.

    I'm definitely biased towards the newer ones because G1 was my childhood, and I was out of collecting from 2008 to 2018.
    To me, the current toys look like robots, but some of the older ones look like humans with armor pasted on. Red Alert really feels this way.
    I think the older Wheeljack's chest goes down too far. It looked like he's wearing a bib of some kind.
    That being said, I see Generations Sargent Kup is available for less than $20 USD on eBay, so I might give him a try. He's the one I like the best of the three you spotlighted.

    I like the Trilogy figures better, especially Earthrise and Kingdom, because they bring back the nostalgia from both the toys and the cartoon and many cases. I own the 3 old generations Lamborghinis (alert/swipe/streaker) and I don't really care for the robot mode. The old generations Kup truck is pretty sweet, but G1 Kup was one of my first three Transformers, (still own him) so yea... nostalgia again?

    Not sure this video was at all necessary. The new toys are objectively more show accurate and toon accurate, and many would argue (including myself) that we’re currently in the golden age of TF generations toys. But none of that matters because you very rarely look at these things with a proper eye because you’re so obsessed with the older toys. Which is totally fine, to each their own, but it doesn’t make for a good video concept when everyone following your channel knows no matter what you’ll choose old toys. Anyways, good luck moving forward.

    As an ex gunpla builder guy who just got into TF recently, i'm grateful to come here. My first Transformers figure is the Unique Toys Dragoon, which omg is what i can only describe as fall in love in first sight. I was at the time when i love Perfect Grade due to it's complexity and huge size, and at that time i was aiming to try PG Zeta because it amazed me of how great the engineering was to make such a huge and detailed robot to transform into a jet. But since its PG Zeta, it's so hard to find and until this day i can't find it. So i randomly watch Jobby, and this is where it all began. At that time, he just got the UT Dragoon. And boi, my jaw just dropped. I was like "A large robot who can turn into a jet and it's already pre built out of the box and i can just play with it ? YES PLEASE" and the rest was history. I still love Gunpla since well that's what i grew up with, but the fact that Transformers are actual sentient characters that can transform into vehicles instead of the mindless war machine that is the Mobile Suits just idk more appealing to me. So yeah, i'm glad finding out about this community 😁

    I think it all really depends on one’s priorities. I used to be the guy who would have gotten all 3 Kups. Nowadays I’d probably only get one, maybe two considering the uniqueness of the 2012 version. Though I’d probably go with the Titans Return Kup as opposed to the Studio Series, G1 accurate enough for my taste while still being a well built figure!
    Typically, my first priority is a functional and good looking robot mode, what that look is doesn’t matter. What does matter is how that figure looks among other figures (ex: Cliffjumper has to be the same height as Bumblebee; the Seekers all need to be the same mold; etc). Matching aesthetic is also important to me. Not to say that a Cybertron mold doesn’t have a place on my Generations shelf, but sitting Botcon Scourge next to Kingdom Cyclonus doesn’t look right to me. So a lot of times I get a lot of newer figures because of their more unified aesthetic.

    I think overall its very dependant on the figure. Both lines have big ups and downs. I think the newer lines have definitely made their quality and standards in terms of transformation and articulation more consistent, but that means you get less stand out figures. The older lines to me, were a bit all over the place. You'd get some incredible figures, but others were just ok. Some of the newer stuff just feels like a mini masterpiece though. Earthrise prime and kingdom cyclonus are incredible, with kingdom rodimus being arguably better than the masterpiece.

    I have a bit of a sad story. That Generations Wheeljack was the first Generations figure I ever got as a kid. When I first unboxed it, it immediately became my favorite Transformer and I played with it all the time. Then literally after only two weeks of having that figure, I took it with me to my grandparents and played with it in the sand and the gears got jammed. It wouldn't transform anymore so I had to get rid of it. Then when Earthrise Wheeljack came out, I was obsessed with getting that figure to refill the void my last Wheeljack left in my life. It was a decent figure, but sadly, it didn't fully live up to my expectations. Although looking back at the original, I would say the ER version at least looks better to me, but I still miss the OG alot

    I own all of those old figures. And while I miss some of the paint and extra parts, I'll take the new ones 99 out of a 100 times. My whole life I've wanted upgraded versions of what I had and saw as a kid. I love this new era. I especially love the updated BW characters we've been getting since Kingdom, like the upcoming Silverbolt.

    Okay I'm glad I'm not crazy about the black plastic LOL. For some reason in Earthrise, a ton of the black plastic looked kinda green under a light or if I painted black on it, it would look very different. IDK if that's a Covid thing or because every trilogy has the weak toyline with less funding (which was Earthrise for WFC) but it was something I kept noticing.

  • @conorburke1999
    @conorburke1999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Even though they're bigger and presumably have better quality plastic (I've only been collection Transformers for a few years), the new figures seem a lot cleaner and better proportioned than the older ones, source material accurate or not.

  • @Jay_Rodimus
    @Jay_Rodimus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly this makes me wonder what fucking mind blowing Transformers we'd have now if we got the engineering advancements of the last few years but plastic prices had stayed the same. Like imagine how the kingdom Sideswipe mold would've turned out with the build quality of the universe one.

    • @Jay_Rodimus
      @Jay_Rodimus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, also, I REALLY miss the stylized aesthetic of pre WFC. I love the toys, and I do appreciate that they don't use g1 accuracy as an excuse to leave out sculpted detail, but the new aesthetic doesn't do it for me nearly as much.

    I love the old stuff even tho i dont have much of it but RoTF was amazing to me, when I got back into the scene of Transformers I never thought kids had trouble with transformations, it always kinda amazed my grandparents on how i can transform figures without the instructions and even today i find that being the most enjoyable part (I guess it was cuz where i live and went to school a lot of kids had traditional action figures while i chose transformers any day over that) I find myself itching for older figures recently but with Legacy im excited to see where we go design wise (plz i just want IDW characters like Ironfist and Guzzle or Unicron Trilogy characters like Tidal Wave). Also I'd love to see these videos now and then I think its a great series as a kind of look back for newer fans and i love it!

    I missed out on collecting anything from the early 2000 for the most part, the only exception being a Sargent Kup (with Cy-Gar head swap), because I saw it and couldn't bear to pass it up. that being said I've gotten a lot of joy out of the newer figures, and I will add that my SS 86 Kup seems to have much tighter pegs for his limbs than yours as he rarely comes apart without direct intent to do so (funny side point, his pegs are the same style as the Weaponizers/Fossilizers, and that has lead to many play shenanigans) so that's a Your Mileage May Vary point. I can see the joy in both, but not having the funds to go hunting the older stuff, I'll kindly enjoy getting the new kids to rebuild my collection 😁

    Personally I prefer the newer figures because they have better body proportions and as the video says, they look better for display.
    Agree with the weapons storage issue, Generations Arcee in car mode had a specially prepared gap to store the big and for the small gun there was slot placed between the hands keeping them in place.

  • @Alzeal07
    @Alzeal07 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    gotta agree on a lot of what you said. I much prefer the philosophy of chug at its beginning rather than g1 with knees, though most of these old designs feel a bit wonky now. wheeljack is chubby, red alert is a bit weird, Silverbolt wears his plane as a cape etc... where modern figures have far more articulation and look a lot more purposeful. Yet, I think both types of lines blend well together, mix and matching it is the best option imo. though my favourite is customizing the Prime line figures into more g1 looks

    I've been collecting CHUG since 2006 with Classics Op/Megatron. I have the Sergeant Kup and Unitied Wheeljack in this video. I agree with you on Kup. I was tempted in getting the SS86 one,but I felt the headsculpt was bad and the arms look too emaciated. 2011 Kup looks old and grizzled in a good way imo. However some older figures were duds like Universe Galvatron. Kingdom Galvatron is probably the finest CHUG iteration of him. I do like them experimenting with alt modes sometimes like Universr Onslaught and his swat form. Siege Ironhide is significantly better than Universe Ironhide imo. I'm just rambling but this was a good idea for a video.

    • @illithid2003

      The problem with SS86 Kup head is the angled chin they added, making the face longer and giving him a comical frown. I shaved some of the chin off and he looks way better or mine now, with a shorter face giving him a sterner look.

    I respect your opinion but don't share it. Generations Wheeljack/Turbo Tracks looks like a lower price point Bayformer. Like Leadfoot or Topspin Wreckers he has a potbelly and spindly legs. Vehicle mode has lots of style but not enough to make up for the robot. Old Red Alert looks like a G1 repaint on Unicron Trilogy. Ot a bad thing, but paint him blue and watch him pop.i do agree with you on Kup. The old Generations mold is a vast improvement. He looks like a pick up and he looks like a grizzled vet who has a war story for every occasion. I'd go: Earthrise Wheeljack, Kingdom Red Alert for G1 and old Red Alert for Unicron Trilogy, and Generations/Thrilling 30 for Kup.

    I think my problem with the older ones you showcased is that despite their vehicle modes, which are great, the robot modes just look super unpolished. I don't know what it is but while they do sort of look like the character, they feel kind of messy with the design, and I appreciate that the newer stuff almost always has a certain etiquette to them that makes them look like actual anatomy.

    • @AwesomeMooseSmile
      @AwesomeMooseSmile 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best comparison is that the newer stuff looks more like season 2 beast wars toys like the transmetals and fuzors, where the old stuff is like the first year. It's definitely not bad, but you look at rhinox cheetor dinobot and Wolfang, and then compare it to transmetal cheetor, quickstrike, and Injector.

    I like SS86 Kup, but his head is weird, and the QC seems to vary wildly, Generations is very panelled and has a backpack, though I love the headsculpt. Kingdom Red Alert is far superior to the old one, the legs are ugly, the head is messy, and the Kingdom one is just better overall imo. ER Wheeljack is pretty good, a bit stumpy, but not too bad, the offwhite just looks disgusting though. Hope he gets either a premium finish or gen selects repaint. The old one is odd, but in a charming way.

    It's not all inflation; it's the Hasbro pattern. They make a decent figure, raise the price, then slack off on the next run.
    I'm guessing when the sales start to drop they up the quality, up the price to compensate, and repeat the process.
    They've done this all the way back to G1 and it gets old.
