I’d use him to keep robbers and other bad people from hurting me and my family. Like in that one episode of phineas and ferb where Vanessa uses a Hair dryer in place of a gun to save her father from being arrested.
honestly I think I agree with hasbro that most voyagers don't need it, I prefer a loose joint (that I can tighten) compared to floppy ratchets since those are mostly a qc issue than a design one, only leaders and up actually need ratchets from a design perspective
I really think Megatron's default modern alt mode should be a piece of self propelled artillery. It strikes a nice balance between his traditional G1, G2 and Galvatron alt modes because it's a gun that looks like a tank. It doesn't necessarily need the turret to be able to move, so the engineering is a lot easier. And if you're willing to be a little silly you can justify having a really huge telescopic sight because it's artillery, so his laser cannon can actually be his alt mode scope once again.
once I've seen a custom of the first highmoon game megatron, in that moment it clicked for me, while megs is always a robot with gun parts on (original toy notwithstanding). galvatron is a cannon with a bot around it! and due to the 'must be a veicle anyway' tranaslation, the newer thign is "megatron is a robot that becomes a tank, galvatron is a cannon that becomes a robot"
A couple things: 1. This figure's alt mode is specifically based on the Nerf N-Strike Maverick. I should know; I once owned two. 2. You never mentioned this in the video so I have no choice but to assume you didn't know, but this figure's scope actually works. By that I mean you can look through it, and there's a crosshair. It's not much, but I think it's neat. I'd also like to mention how I got my copy. Sometime last year, I was walking with my future father-in-law and his dog (rest in peace). This was back before he moved to Montana. We weren't even 5 minutes into our walk when we noticed a cardboard box sitting on the sidewalk. I looked inside and, amongst the numerous other toys in the box, I quickly identified both a G1 Grimlock (sans a few stickers) as well as the original Classics version of this figure. I don't remember if anything was written on the box itself to make it known these toys were free to take or if it just clicked in my head that I could, but as someone who never had this Megatron, I jumped at the chance to take it home with me, and I've had it ever since. It's in surprisingly good condition all things considered; the orange safety paint is faded, his right toe is loose and droops even in gun mode, the scope tip is covered in little divots like it's been lightly chewed on or something, and the only paint chipping I've seen is on the wing pieces and the Decepticon insignias on either side of the scope (the left side being the most egregious). Other than that, it's held up pretty damn well. One small thing I like is how when going into robot mode, locking the scope in place slightly pushes out the right hand and by extension the panel it's under. Not that getting that hand out is hard, but it's the little things in life. The left hand, however, is a different story. I also took the Grimlock figure, as I also never had any of the G1 figures growing up and I figured I may as well. I didn't find any of his accessories in the box, whether it was due to me not searching hard enough or they just weren't there, but maybe one day I'll track them down.
Fun fact, I purchased Henkei Classics Megatron back in about 2006 when I went to Hong Kong. Before I flew home I was stopped at the HK airport because I had him in gun mode when I went through baggage checks. They let me through once I transformed him back into robot mode.
I love my Classics Megatron. The under slung fusion canon is weird, but it does kinda make more sense that way. Holding a big ass weapon like that on the underside would be significantly easier than the side or top of your forearm
@ronaldpaterni5081 yeah that's pretty decent. But there are also a lot of times it's on the top of his forearm (because that's what the toy looked like) and I just think that looks really weird
The ever ongoing debate about what Megatron's default alt mode should be always amuses me. I for one see the merits to most of them and my feelings on the matter have ebbed and flowed over time. Like for a good while I felt being a tank was just the most sensible thing for him to be, but right now I really feel like being a twin-rotor attack helicopter fits him better. But then I've also more recently softened on the idea of him just getting to be a straight up hand gun (though probably not full time)
The Henkei Megatron I bought in ‘09 is still my CHUG Megatron. Also, Dr. Wu released a nice little 5mm mini-gun of this mold in different colors, so whichever version you have, your CHUG Decepticons can hold him.

They don't make him a role-play pistol any more, because the nail in the coffin was a kid who was playing with a G1 Megatron back in the 1980s. He was reported to the police as "someone lurking in the alley with a gun," and when they arrived on the scene, they shot and killed him. I remember when this happened, but when I tried to search for the story, all that came up was a guy named DJ Megatron being shot by police. I got the first edition one I think. It's grey, purple, and neon green. Your color scheme is way better but I am still as mind blown as to how cool it is. A little small for the adult hand but damn.....was def one of the better two in one toys......😊
The cannon placement is OK for Megatron, though not “canon” - if his right fist is held out horizontal, right arm outstretched, you’re correct- it must be on top. I have a Reveal-The-Shield Megatron, and an oversized KO RTS Megatron (which I plan to paint chrome). His right arm held out, the fist is vertical, but the cannon is on the side. Ah, I guess it’s better than no cannon. It’s definitely like my 55 ft. NERF Maverick revolver. Thanks!
I had been wandering that myself about there no longer being a gun Megatron. I never got the G1 version as a kid but, when the Classics Deluxe series started, I bought the Hasbro version. Mine falls backward too due to weakening heels. I suppose there may be a fix for that but, I've never tried it. I didn't know that there was a Silver and black version but, based on the points you brought up I now understand why it was done in an unrealistic color. It sure would be nice if they would bring back the Classics types even if they were just recolors with new names. The more the merrier. Excellent video!
I loved this figure when it came out, the US version I mean, but over the years I just really want G2 Megatron in the bright green and purple with the shoulder cannon to be the default. It cuts a stunning silhouette, far more impactful than G1 or the pseudo G1 WfC type figures.
The fact all they have to do to make Megatron a gun again is either use a turret (take the WFC/FoC turrets for example) or a cybertronian laser gun like Shockwave for example yet they just keep using a tank which isn't that bad but gets repetitive seeing it majority of the time
When I was a kid in the 80s it was common for us to ride our bikes around with a BB gun slung over our shoulder, basically a dead accurate looking rifle that could actually hurt someone. In the 90s, powerful water guns became kind of a craze. Super soakers were pump action and generally bright 90s colors, so they were obviously toys. However there was also a line of battery powered water guns that were black and looked like replica machine guns. Especially from a distance you couldn't tell the difference. There was a kid that got shot and killed by police when he was brandishing it. Sometime in the 90s the US passed that law that required the bright orange tip on toy guns. It was also an era when there was a lot of protest about violent video games and music, their version of pre-cancel culture. Toy manufacturers could still make gun toys, but it's not worth it. The risk of public pushback or god forbid a kid getting killed and it smearing their brand (yes cynical), plus some states having even stricter regs than the orange tip so it'd complicate their distribution, as a business decision they shouldn't bother.
I'm trying to collect every bot featured in the 86 movie and I'm afraid I'll never do it because of Megatron. It's a shame about the OG Megatron being banned in most countries.
Other Decepticons:" we should transform into spaceships, stereos and vehicles to do more damage without being too obvious" Megatron and Shockwave: "or we could try this"
The nerf blaster your thinking of is the ubiquitous maverick. A six shot side arm revolver that at it's time was extremely reliable. It nowadays is SEVERELY outdated but still a fun blaster as a cosplay gun if painted up
I have the platinum version you mentioned toward the end of the video. I'd absolutely just give it to you, but it's currently at my friend's house from when I was living with them a few years ago.
Love this toy and I want the United version. This is the one that sent me down the TH-cam Transformers rabbit hole. My wife bought it for me and he came without instructions.
I'm just glad Megatron no longer has to worry about turning into a gun. The Galactic Warlord responsible for untold deaths should not transform into an accessory.
When you split Megatron's torso for the transformation, my first thought was the T-1000 during the climax fight of Terminator 2. You know, the part where his toros got exploded by the grenade launcher?
Instead of of the "Thing" he reminds me of the T-2000 from "Terminator 2". I was lucky enough to get 1 at a second hand store last year, even though its the green, purple, grey version I still like it.
Ah I remember really wanting this when it released back in the day! I was able to get the classics Optimus via the AoE 2 pack, but I don't think this guy got a similar rerelease other than the platinum one.
seeing in my home town a kid was shot killed with a G1 megatron, yeah there is a serious reason why in Australia considers fake guns as serious as real ones, hard laws come from horrible situations over here...
Shockwave: Guys I can explain Megatron: Almost all of your toys get gun modes while I haven't had an official one since my masterpiece figure Sixgun: Speak for yourself my gun mode doesn't even look like a gun Galvatron: You guys are getting gun modes?
Your house is huge lmao. You can tell from having a balcony on the second floor with that much space to view over your foyer or something. Oh yeah and great review.
I have the multicolor American version and it has lived in my collection box and just stays there. I love Megs but that joker paint scheme hurts my eyes. All of the bads you put in PLUS it's a technicolor nightmare
In today's open source DIY insanity i can totally belive one day someone will custom build an actual working megatron (air)gun that can still transform
i think UN megatron is potentially one of the two best generations line G1 megatron. it could transform into a gun, it has OK articulation, and if you take light behind his head, oh damn, those eyes are evil has hell. while siege megatron (netflix version, the origional siege release has awful paints. ) has better articulation and a more G1 look, it's a tank though. UN megatron still has a niche.
This is why I don’t mind a non transforming G1 Megatron like the Red figure. Too bad it’s a bit too small. Guess I’ll try the Super 7 when it goes on sale
Let's toss out the toy/nostalgic factors and US gun/toy gun safety laws for a moment and toss in some logic (from any TF show) for a bit. What looks more intimidating? A gun mode (where Megatron not only shrinks down but also requires a third party to fire off) or a tank mode that Megatron can fire off on his own? Some of the jet modes are weird (except the stealth bomber), but those are a bit more intimidating than a gun as well. Plus tanks and jets can cause way more destruction than a gun. There is also no way anyone is foolish enough to try to rob banks or stores with a toy tank or jet. The sports/race cars are a bit strange, but it was a refeshing idea for a character that is usually a handgun or some type of war vehicle. As far as I know, the last gun Megatron was sold at retail in 2011 as part of the "Reveal the Shield" line in Legends size.
I get why Megs isn’t a gun but the seeming restrictions on massively unrealistic gun modes like Shockwave’s or Sixshot’s to where they have to cover the former in spaceship pieces and flip the latter’s gun mode upside down as a “submarine”
Personally I think it’s unreasonable that they don’t sell gun Megatrons or any gun Transformers, always having to rebrand them as a spaceship or submarine like Sixshot and Shockwave. Tons of stores at least where I’m from sell scaled-down kid-sized toy guns for kids to play with, and even Hasbro still sells Nerf guns. It doesn’t have to be a realistic gun, heck they’re aliens from a cartoon series, make him turn into a space laser or something. The only explanation I can come up with is that they want to be able to sell Transformers everywhere, and it would be bad form to release gun Megatron in a wave of figures and have the entire wave *except for him* available in those countries; fans in those areas might feel cheated that they’re getting one less figure. Maybe though with the fact there they’re doing more online exclusives we could see an online-only Megatron that only ships to certain countries, but then again you run into the same issue of alienating a portion of your audience. Either way, I’m a G1 lover so I skipped out on Siege and Earthrise Megs in lieu of a knockoff/third party figure that actually turns into a pistol in roughly voyager scale for my WFC collection
Laws vary depending on where you are in the United States, so you have a point, but it applies even on smaller scales. I believe New York and California in particular have outright banned the sale of toy guns, so Hasbro would have to completely skip those very lucrative domestic markets if they want to sell a gun-mode Megatron these days.
I got the strange painted version. It’s an interesting figure. But hey. Got it. Like UK paint version. Great clip. Nice information. But yes. This figure not easy to stand. Do wish the wings come off. It can stand as a shield of sort. But it will probably solve the standing but its arm so heavy.
The fact that somewhere somehow sometime around the world Megatron was probably actually used to rob a store
He most definitely was. Google it. It's kinda hilarious.

@@bighoss6816 All good, and you sit have taste
I love your little intro skits! Please keep doing them
I got the first edition one I think. It's grey, purple, and neon green. Your color scheme is way better but I am still as mind blown as to how cool it is. A little small for the adult hand but damn.....was def one of the better two in one toys......😊
I actually think hasbro last gun megatron was the reveal the shield legends class. I still have mine, pretty solid little transformer.
Evil silver robot mangles himself to become a Nerf magnum
You split Megatron in half then I was like:
😶😶😶😶😶😶😶
I think it's because some toy regulations, heck even shockwave nowadays lost his gun mode
Despite the basic fact he doesn't turn into a 'realistic' gun. He turns into a purple sci-fi ray gun.
7:20 nah, more like the T - 1000 when Arnold shoots him with the grenade laungher.
The fact all they have to do to make Megatron a gun again is either use a turret (take the WFC/FoC turrets for example) or a cybertronian laser gun like Shockwave for example yet they just keep using a tank which isn't that bad but gets repetitive seeing it majority of the time
But you don't get tired of Optimus turning into a flat-nosed truck?
Yeah. I would get smoked if i showed someone this Megatron.
4:54 Oh man, even i feeled megatron's pain in this part 0_0
I really hope the make an ss86 megatron and it's like a mini mp36
I hope and pray this gets a update in legacy but it probably never will
I think the last official gun Megatron was the RTS(?) legends class Megatron.
Walther P 38
Makes sense that back in the day he would transform into that.
Considering that weapons history.
Now he would be a Glock or Sig saurer.
Generations legends class Megatron was actually the last gun megatron released in North America.
That opening music haunts me. I used it once for an awful student film that i went to hades and back to edit
*Big menacing meg transforming into a gun*
*Shockwave takes the tiny ass gun in his hand.*
Also Shockwave: well that looks totally normal…
Other Decepticons:" we should transform into spaceships, stereos and vehicles to do more damage without being too obvious"
Megatron and Shockwave: "or we could try this"
The nerf blaster your thinking of is the ubiquitous maverick. A six shot side arm revolver that at it's time was extremely reliable. It nowadays is SEVERELY outdated but still a fun blaster as a cosplay gun if painted up
Reliable? As in, competitive? People actually have nerf fights to the point that matters?
@@raonair .....no- it's just a really solid blaster
The gun was called the Maverick.
Yes that was necessary to come and say.
Fun fact: this version of Megatron actually IS based on a Nerf gun (more specifically the Nerf N-Strike Maverick)
I have the platinum version you mentioned toward the end of the video. I'd absolutely just give it to you, but it's currently at my friend's house from when I was living with them a few years ago.
Love this toy and I want the United version. This is the one that sent me down the TH-cam Transformers rabbit hole. My wife bought it for me and he came without instructions.
we did get Classics Megatron here in the states. it's just that he was shades of orange, green, and grey.
The only way I can see them doing Megatron as gun again is if they do some type of collaboration with Nerf
they recently did one but with ROTB Optimus 😐 total missed opportunity for a gun Megatron
And it would have to look not realistic and not Silver and black.
10/10 larping
My first thought was how the T-1000 looked after eating a grenade before falling backwards into the molten metal.
it’s always a good day when thattoyguy uploads
Hey! The Platinum deco is in stock right now for $100 USD at TFScource!
"but then" *31 seconds of clicking later* "so yeah his ratchet's sound good"
seeing in my home town a kid was shot killed with a G1 megatron, yeah there is a serious reason why in Australia considers fake guns as serious as real ones, hard laws come from horrible situations over here...
I kinda want this toy dude Megs look like a Nerf Gun I bet he’s expensive considering how old he is
He was pretty pricey when he was brand new!
Bro became an asmr channel for 30 seconds
They should make a megatron that is a supersoaker but that transforms
ah ah ah the intro killed me 🤣 awesome review !
2011 was the last gun megatron outside of masterpiece as part of the reveal the shield line
I remember having this megatron specifically, and Optimus Prime.
I have never laughed so hard with your intros before😂 Awesome Video!
Shockwave: Guys I can explain
Megatron: Almost all of your toys get gun modes while I haven't had an official one since my masterpiece figure
Sixgun: Speak for yourself my gun mode doesn't even look like a gun
Galvatron: You guys are getting gun modes?
Your house is huge lmao. You can tell from having a balcony on the second floor with that much space to view over your foyer or something. Oh yeah and great review.
it looks like the Maverick, i would´ve loved this as a kid
thanks for reminding me of the nightmares i had from the thing
Oh! I bought this toy last month went I went to Japan, glad to see it here
Looks like a silver Survivors Epitaph 180 in Destiny 2
All they had to do was make the tip of the gun piece have an orange tip and they could have sold him legally. Such a shame cuz it looks awesome lol
I like Megatron being a tank. It's like a gun on treads
I'm old so I was able to pick this up back when it was news from Walmart for around 20 bucks US
i noticed this now, years after finding this video for the first time, that classics megatron kinda looks like a nerf maverick
That toy guy: *Anyways I started blasting*
I get why Megs isn’t a gun but the seeming restrictions on massively unrealistic gun modes like Shockwave’s or Sixshot’s to where they have to cover the former in spaceship pieces and flip the latter’s gun mode upside down as a “submarine”
The clicking can be his gun firings!
Why we don’t get gun mode Megatron anymore? … Gun laws.
I have this in its funky neon nerf colors in a tub
Curious what 3rd party megs you went with. I couldn't find one that'd scale with everything else when I looked
7:22 Terminator 2 would of been a better reference, when the T-1000 gets blown apart by the grenade launcher, right at the end.
