I'm surprised that sandstorm was thr base mold not springer, however I'm very excited for the legacy one love to see how it improves from the thrilling 30s
Sandstorm was one of the few genuinely complex characters of G1 surprisingly enough. Growing up on a planet of pacifists but still feeling a need to fight, working alongside Drcepticons like octane when necessary, and shrugging off his home getting blown up paints a picture of a well meaning but kinda fucked up guy which IDW played into. Hes a super underrated guy and it was vindicating to hear this toy was the original when Springer was getting all the love. Hope that rumored new one is cool.
@@megatron8449 made this pacifist who befriended a Decepticon defender a murderous Punisher type who would “never forgive” the decepticons and was killing them horribly after the war was over
I would switch with you in a heartbeat. I have Springer, but I think Sandstorm's altmodes look so distinct and cool. I missed out on Springer back in the day due to some package thieves.... =(
I like the Springer version a bit more, but I still love this one. I will be very surprised if Legacy manages to surpass this one. Not in accuracy or articulation, but in how clever the transformation is and how balanced the modes are. I hope the release of Legacy manages to make this guy cheaper, he's kinda expensive in the aftermarket.
April 2024, G1 Sandstorm gets released along with G1 Sureshot and SS86 Swoop. This finishes the triple changers, targetmaster and the Dinobots. Unless they do a new Broadside, down the line.
When in VTOL mode, while you can position the arms all the way forward for the "wings", like you said they get in the way of the rotors. You're actually supposed to just fold the black part over itself, not up to the yellow. That way you still get the wings facing out, and still have room for the rotors.
Hey, as an owner of this figure, I wanted to mention the heels. When you shift the feet back at 7:30, if you have them shifted halfway the robot mode feels more stable in my opinion
Alt mode reminds me a lot of the Energon Cliffjumper aka not Sandstorm. Only ever owned the Springer release and for the most part a decent toy with fun alt modes/transformation. A definite highlight during the thrilling 30s era. 2024 apparently is giving us a Legacy Sandstorm and 86 Springer. Probably the same mold, but heres hoping each has an original mold or at least enough retooling to differentiate the two.
I was JUST THINKING of Sandstorm last night, and looking up any toys, as the G1 Sandstorm looked pretty cool, and so was this version! I can confidently say that this and G1 were the only Sandstorm toys (that were actually THE character, rather than his name just slapped onto whatever toy) that I could find on eBay! Don’t get me wrong, both toys look cool! But personally I kinda wished there was a Legacy toy of him as well! (Also, I already sent my Christmas list to “Santa” so… I’ll have to save up for my own Sandstorm toy…or toys! As now that I think about it, since there are only 2 actual Sandstorm toys, I could buy both so that the G1 version is his earth mode, and this one is his Cybertronian mode!)
Ehhhhh.....I can sort of see how this design was first. if you look at Nick's older art of his Springer, the car mode isn't really anything like the art for Springer's car mode. It seems though that they took aspects of this, made additions to make him into Springer, then went back to Sandstorm and changed him to add more Springer to his design until there was more of a balance, and then released Springer first, lol. Personally, I like Springer better. The top heavy nature of Sandtorm didn't do it for me and without leg wheels his legs look very spindly. I never had a problem with standing the Springer figure. I only have that Legends release of the T30 mold because I like the G1 colors on him a lot.
I don’t know what kind of joke it was with that we’ll chill mode but as somebody in a wheelchair myself, I feel seen by the transformers and I think you
I remember when i got this for Christmas many years ago, the first time i tried to transform it, i cut my finger, somehow drawing lots of blood.... man i want a new sandstorm, the 3rd party one is impossible to find now.
What is incredibly ironic: I just white base primed a red alert from the legacy velocitron line to do a sandstorm repaint. I decided so after finding an orange and yellow createx paint that looks beautiful as they're sprayed on.
I totally agree. This transformer seriously needs an update, especially if they retain the feature that he can transform with the rotor blades remain attached like what the G1 toy did. I'm constantly loosing the swords from Springer, which become the blades for him.
I don't have this figure but I have the Springer Trilling 30 that used this mold and, let me tell you friends, this figure is awesome(My fav in fact.. I can not believe this went for $30 originally. Transformers fans were eating way better than us a few years ago. Both alt modes look great as well as bot mod and it is so much FUN to transform too. The sandstorm is going for like 80+ on ebay but the Springer is going for around 50 NEW and as low as 15 used at this very moment. Get. This. Toy.
I have the sandstorm mold, but my copy is missing the door frames For off-road mode, because when I was little the door came off and I lost them. I recently found the wing parts for the helicopter mode and I put them back on it. I actually have two sandstorm transformers cause why not I wish that this mold had ankle pivots
This toy's Hasbro designer was Joe Kyde, who was (for a lack of a better term) the lead designer of Generations, as well as being responsible for every single Cyberverse class toy in the Dark of the Moon and TF Prime toy lines. He was let go in 2013 as part of wide-ranging lay-offs at Hasbro. These days, Kyde works at Lego and was responsible for their Optimus Prime set.
@@yomomma7418 Honestly, a career at Lego probably works out better long-term. Lego is essentially timeless, but traditional toys of the kind Hasbro makes struggle for relevancy in today's market. Like, I'm surprised the Titan class price point still exists.

Both modes look really good for a triple changer. Usually, they'll have a more compromised mode, but this one does both quite well. The only one that I would say is the more "comprised" mode is the flying one, mainly because you have a few unavoidable car bits showing.
I didn't buy this figure for a while cause I watched a Baltmatrix review of it back in 2014 when it was still in shelves and he was bitching about it the whole time that I thought it was a bad figure. Yeah shame on me for listening to Balt "The hamhands" matrix. Thank goodness I decided to buy one and it was during a sale too.
Sandstorm is still my favourite. This mold got me into this ridiculous habit. When standing, if you fold the fans forward a notch, it doesn't look the best, but it's great for stability & he fit on my shelf that way. Recently got the Dr Wu legend class & awaiting new stock for Sworder. I'd love a Legacy update but not if the Blitzwing designer is involved. That was rough Hasbro.
i live outside the USA, so there isn't some huge secondary toy market, but there is some. I spent almost 7 years passively looking for a complete Sandstorm at a reasonable price. What a blessing.
The Dr.Wu legends sandstorm is satisfying and is normal legends scale not their tiny scale, also the 30th sandstorm really cool but really expensive to get now and there isn’t anything else out there sandstorm wise
I got this guy! I think he is great! Only flaw is kinda annoying: His arm panels get STUCK every time I press them down for buggy mode and are a pain to lift back up. I have to wiggle it up and down and dig my nail under it every time, so I just keep him in robot or VTOL mode :D

I honestly don't see how Hasbro can top the T30 Sandstorm. (Aside from G1 accuracy, they really didn't complete the pass in going from T30 Springer to Siege Springer...)
No complaints from either T30 Springer or Sandstorm. I gave them a different weapon, but the robot mode and the alt-modes belt it out of the park. The pluses more than outnumber the minuses. I do wish Hasbro would take a W on these molds and just stop right there.

In VTOL mode, his arms are supposed to be transformed as of they’re in robot mode, aside from the fists being folded away inside of the forearms. The feet should be in the middle slot. Like it vehicle mode they’re all the way to one side, and in robot mode they’re all the way to the other side. There’s a middle area between the two sides, that’s where they should be in VTOL mode. When you transform the feet, you can feel the plastic flex around the grooves as it slots between the three locations.
