Turns out nobody knew at the time! But this PS3 hidden startup trick is something that every PlayStation user should know about.. You can try for yourself, it works!

This is a helpful tip, but the PS3 system still needs proper maintenance. The thermal paste is 16 years old now (if you have a launch model) CECH-A/B01. Thermal paste needs changed both on top and under the IHS (on top of the dies) as well. I have done this to all of my PS3's. The launch model has a metal PSU that generates a lot of heat.

Same here, I wondered what the issue was. If you have CFW on your CECHA-E model Phat PS3 you can achieve the same result by telling WebMAN to temporarily set the fans to the maximum 95% for 30-60 seconds. Those older BC PS3s also don't have the ability to be controlled via HDMI-CEC but it's not a big deal when you can just pick up the Blu-ray remote.

One thing you failed to mention that backwards compatible CECHA01 doesn't have this feature. I assume same applies to the CECHB01 and CECHE01 models. Basically any of the three US backwards compatible PS3s I think don't have this unlike other fat models. I have all three models I just listed but I only remember trying it on my CECHA01 and it not working where as it does indeed work on my regular Slim. Super Slim doesn't have it since not disc eject button to hold as it's the door thing.
