Pretty sure they just got burnt out from having annoying people in chat, and didn't really get pre rec to take off like RLM proper, they should have made more best-of compilations, animateds and edits to promote the channel, it's great. You would just float on top of it while slowly burning as if you were cooking on a grill, but there would also be a lot of violent splattering as the moisture in your body instantly boils and erupts from you like a frozen onion ring dropped into a deep fryer. In other words, it's far more awesome than how it's depicted in movies and video games.

A lot of people don't realize that the actual look of a character can affect gameplay. If you look at _Team Fortress 2_ for example, the developers went out of their way to make sure each character had a distinct silhouette, voice, and color composition so they could easily be distinguished from each other even at a distance, which is important in a class-based shooter where teammates have to work together and everybody needs to know what everybody else is doing. In _Doom_, we see enemies of all different shapes and sizes, so you know exactly what weapon and strategy to use when you see them, unlike something like _Call of Duty_ where you might not know what somebody is armed with or even whether or not you're on the same team until they're already shooting at you. Some might argue that's more "realistic", but let's not forget that _CoD_ is a game where you can survive a .50 BMG to the chest if you crouch behind a wall for a few seconds.
@@neal2399 50BMG goes clean through your body about every time even if it hits bone, which means it won t ricochet inside your chest cavity which is way more lethal. That said if it lands near your heart and ruptures it from the sheer force you're just fucked. Combat statistics, though, say you're always more likely to survive a singular bullet than die from one if medical attention is nearby. The real danger is locking up and taking repeat hits, although a hit from a 50 will take you to a whole different world of pain obviously
It's a miracle that a game like Doom 2016 even exists. It's a AAA game *and* a reboot (or "de-boot") done really right. It's truly a Doom game, it didn't betray its predecesors nor switched genres on long time fans. It's paying tribute to all the iconic aspects of the original Doom, but they didn't overdo it, they didn't make it a nostalgia trip just for the sake of it. The new Doom is respectful of its roots and of its fans *and* it's an awesomely fun and well designed game in its own right. There's still hope, people!

From what I understand, Bethesda/Zenimax thought DOOM would sell itself on the multiplayer, so they brought in a separate studio to work on the MP to make it like Halo. That's why the MP was fucking trash when the game came out and the SP was excellent, because Bethesda basically let id do whatever they wanted with it as long as it cashed in on the Brutal Doom audience.

Yeah me too. I bought Doom today for $20 after watching this review and the streams. Haven't bought a AAA title since Skyrim. I've been having a blast so far, such a breath of fresh air after all the cover-based story-heavy shooters I've seen my friends playing.

This is the first game review of theirs I've watched, and I'm shocked at how well they got to the heart of it that I now want it. I mean I had already heard the reports it was good, but their review of it is what has convinced me to pick it up sooner rather than later
I stopped playing fps games years ago because it felt like fun singleplayer was no longer on the agenda and barely competently designed multiplayer had become the norm. I picked up doom for 20 bucks yesterday because of this review and for the first time in so long my heart actually raced during gameplay. I was surprised that it happened because I forgot how it felt to be genuinely excited in a shooter.
This game ... It has all what i missed for so many years in shooters. I am cheering and yelling, swearing and every time i beat new arena I am so happy. This game really gives you feeling of superbadass monster head kicker. It is same category of masterpiecenes as Dredd ( 2012 ). Feels good to be a gamer
Jack, Rich, the music was composed by Mick Gordon, who did the music to Killer Instinct. His themes are always awesomely dynamic to the action. Works great in Doom, fantastic in KI.

Awesome, Jack even wrote a song! This is a kickass episode. It seems like a lot of games have tried to deconstruct "The Player/Main Character is a Badass," in the past 15 years. Metal Gear does this, Call of Duty seemed to revel in killing off Player Characters after Modern Warfare, and it shows up in Mass Effect and Gears of war to an extent (The Halo trilogy happily averted this). It's nice for a slick, modern game to just get back to embracing that escapism of "You're playing as a badass who can kill everything." This looks like a game I need to check out.

Regenerating health killed my love for the FPS genre a long time ago. This review sprinkled a little hope into the mix, I'm off to steam to buy and try DOOM. (and also, yes I'm a grandpa)
+Brett Novelli Ehh have to disagree. It has interesting setting, aesthetics, great movement and combat variety (better melee combat than doom for sure). The only problems with it are that it's too long that it becomes slightly repetitive and the lack of promotion.

Just got my hands on the game and played through the first few levels this morning, and I'm already completely in love with it. It's just so refreshing playing through such a simple but thoroughly entertaining game. It's basically just the original game on steroids... and that's exactly what it needed to be. It might be my favorite game of the past few years for simply and completely being so unapologetic about what it is and just devoting itself so completely to being a fun game.
Looks like there is finally a AAA game that gets it. Allowing for some "world-building", while not sacrificing the fast-paced gameplay. And that beginning cutscene, as Rick and Jack have said, not only does it make fun of ever other modern AAA game trends but also serves as a great way to characterize the character without resorting to endless amounts of exposition. It's a breath of freaking fresh air. FINALLY!
Mystery Face X I like it. It's pretty old school feeling. Timed weapons, armor, health packs, and power ups all over the place to grab. You run fast as hell and there are a buttload of weapons to choose from. Can also play as a demon when then demon power up spawns. Which is cool, but sometimes the person playing the demon is so good it's just frustrating haha.
I think one of their final streams they said the opinions on games was starting to get repetitive, and on top of demands from other project they wanted to end on a high note.
I've started to play in Nightmare mode. It's incredible how fun it can be at the same time it's hard as hell. Almost finishing the game to play again in Ultra Nightmare and be happy for a long time =D

3:11 Doesn't matter whether you like em. Rich Evans is speaking facts. Halo, and the developers at Bungie have TALKED ABOUT THIS many times, was designed to accomodate that controller. When Halo got popular, every console shooter that came out after it, followed Halo's example. Gears of War, was also IMMENSELY popular. You combine those, and you get basically every military themed FPS game from 2005 to 2012. Bland, barren. Slower pace, regenrating health, narrative driven(IE: linear) games. Like, it's fine to like a controller, but Doom plays best on keyboard and mouse. Even the id developers were clear on that when they showcased Doom Eternal early on "This is controller... Alright, now let's open 'er up and play with keyboard and mouse." The amount of rapid decision making and precise moves you can make on keyboard is just universally higher. You wouldn't need cover, regen health, and aim assist if the controller was as capable as the keyboard. It wouldn't have taken years of trial and error to get to the two-stick control schemes we use today.

Underrated video game channel, long time viewer of rlm at like the plinket level and the occasional half in the bag but recently delved into this channel (and far further into rlm) and knew how much they’d love this game

No, the stealth parts were optional anyway. I mean the purely menial air ducts and scripted events, like the whole beginning until you're in the castle.

For having enemy variation? great map design? amazing music? brilliant gun play? no... --Multiplayer loadouts-- I don't see IGN as the ultimate reviewers but I think they gave it a score that low as a way to say FUCK you to I.D for not giving them enough money for the reviews nor early review copies ;)
While I generally think that scores are meaningless and arbitrary, 7.1 (lol, like the .1 really makes a difference) out of 10 is quite good. That's 2 points over average. That said, IGN once knocked .5 off the score for Bad Company 2's "Vietnam" DLC because Fortunate Son was played too much. They're utter hacks, they only have a lot of subs because of the exclusive looks they always get
My first attempt at playing DOOM 2016 was when my brother set up a virtual machine or whatever it's called so I could play his copy on my computer *in another state.* (I remember *DOS,* people.) Anyway, my computer at the time was *not* up to the task. The first couple minutes of shooting the zombie guys and finding the suit were stuttery, but kinda playable. Then came that first corridor and I must've been getting like half a frame per second. Stuff was still happening, though, so I just kept shooting and running blind until all the demons were dead and the frame rate returned. It was like I'd gone into some sort of berserker fury and woke up covered in blood, surrounded by the dismembered corpses of my enemies. It was *AWESOME!*
The problem with modern FPS is that the developers care more about multiplayer targeted towards annoying autistic teenagers. While I enjoy I online, it seems like a good single player campaign is a thing of the past.

I remember a kid at school saying Goldeneye and Star Wars Shadows of the Empire on 64 "weren't as good as DOOM" back in like '97. People just grouped them all together as "DOOM-ish", all the while I could have said "What about Wolfenstein?" if I'd known about it. I'm pretty over ripping on anything for copying elements of something else (with the exception of Pong and Pac-Man clones of the '80s) lol
lordkarel I suppose, I was never a huge fan of Doom or death matches and didn't care much for most shooters back then, It wasn't until Half-Life that I realized how good a shooter could be. Half-Life, in my experience, was genre breaking. However, point taken, I suppose none of my friends described it that way to me.
+JosephJamesScott I'd say the pretense of half life mirrors doom pretty closely. a portal to another world gets opened, and a whole bunch of creatures flood out and start wreaking havoc. Of course half life's story evolves into more, but the basic premise is similar

They might not have been called Doom clones, but games release during that were most certainly compared to Doom, it being the standard that all other shooters had to measure up to. Not sure about Half Life though, what with it being released after the shift to 3D. It seems more likely that it would be compared to Quake. Or Unreal, released earlier the same year. So yeah, I think they got the time frame a bit wrong. I can certainly believe that all shooters before the release of Quake were called Doom clones. After Quake though, it seems unlikely.

Doom is a return to form. All you youngins need to play this. The new Unreal Tournament also looks pretty awesome. This is like the thrash metal revival in the early part of this decade. Only better. Remember when you used to use the lowest graphics settings to make opponents more visible and the game quicker? Doom proves that gameplay and atmosphere make the game.

Where as film has a linear set up, in video games you have to account for every possibility that the game is to allow, so I am guessing that the whole "cinematic experience" fad that has been going on is nothing short of a facade meant to hide the fact that they just want to cut their work load. Original Doom... maybe, but not Brutal Doom. In original Doom you didn't need to aim up or down. Just shoot in the general vicinity of an enemy and they get hit.
The OG Halo was a masterpiece. It still had healthpacks. Also it felt kind of slow because Master Chief is an 8 foot tall tank. It was a different type of game.
The first time I saw the Doomslayer do the Terminator 2 style thumbs-up while sinking into the lava, I had to pause my game and just take a moment to really appreciate the developers for putting it in there.
Doom 2016 is the most important FPS since the original Doom. I was so sick of these shitty cover based shooters. I think a major reason why Doom feels so great and hectic is because the enemies shoot dodgeable projectiles. This makes it possible to put you in the middle of a shit storm, surrounded by enemies and still be able to kill everything without camping like a pussy. Of course there a lot of other reasons, but I think this was such an important part of the puzzle.

To be fair if you got REALLY lucky you could walk off a 50BMG to the chest (seen liveleaks) although that's certainly the exception to the rule.

This game ... It has all what i missed for so many years in shooters. I am cheering and yelling, swearing and every time i beat new arena I am so happy. This game really gives you feeling of superbadass monster head kicker. It is same category of masterpiecenes as Dredd ( 2012 ). Feels good to be a gamer
Jack, Rich, the music was composed by Mick Gordon, who did the music to Killer Instinct. His themes are always awesomely dynamic to the action. Works great in Doom, fantastic in KI.

It seems like a lot of games have tried to deconstruct "The Player/Main Character is a Badass," in the past 15 years. Metal Gear does this, Call of Duty seemed to revel in killing off Player Characters after Modern Warfare, and it shows up in Mass Effect and Gears of war to an extent (The Halo trilogy happily averted this).
It's nice for a slick, modern game to just get back to embracing that escapism of "You're playing as a badass who can kill everything." This looks like a game I need to check out.

+Brett Novelli Ehh have to disagree. It has interesting setting, aesthetics, great movement and combat variety (better melee combat than doom for sure). The only problems with it are that it's too long that it becomes slightly repetitive and the lack of promotion.

Just got my hands on the game and played through the first few levels this morning, and I'm already completely in love with it. It's just so refreshing playing through such a simple but thoroughly entertaining game. It's basically just the original game on steroids... and that's exactly what it needed to be. It might be my favorite game of the past few years for simply and completely being so unapologetic about what it is and just devoting itself so completely to being a fun game.

Looks like there is finally a AAA game that gets it. Allowing for some "world-building", while not sacrificing the fast-paced gameplay. And that beginning cutscene, as Rick and Jack have said, not only does it make fun of ever other modern AAA game trends but also serves as a great way to characterize the character without resorting to endless amounts of exposition.
It's a breath of freaking fresh air. FINALLY!

How's the multi-player for DOOM? Overwatch was pretty fun, but not too much content at the moment. I can't decide which to get.
Mystery Face X I like it. It's pretty old school feeling. Timed weapons, armor, health packs, and power ups all over the place to grab. You run fast as hell and there are a buttload of weapons to choose from. Can also play as a demon when then demon power up spawns. Which is cool, but sometimes the person playing the demon is so good it's just frustrating haha.

I think one of their final streams they said the opinions on games was starting to get repetitive, and on top of demands from other project they wanted to end on a high note.

I've started to play in Nightmare mode. It's incredible how fun it can be at the same time it's hard as hell. Almost finishing the game to play again in Ultra Nightmare and be happy for a long time =D

Halo, and the developers at Bungie have TALKED ABOUT THIS many times, was designed to accomodate that controller. When Halo got popular, every console shooter that came out after it, followed Halo's example. Gears of War, was also IMMENSELY popular. You combine those, and you get basically every military themed FPS game from 2005 to 2012. Bland, barren. Slower pace, regenrating health, narrative driven(IE: linear) games.
Like, it's fine to like a controller, but Doom plays best on keyboard and mouse. Even the id developers were clear on that when they showcased Doom Eternal early on "This is controller... Alright, now let's open 'er up and play with keyboard and mouse." The amount of rapid decision making and precise moves you can make on keyboard is just universally higher. You wouldn't need cover, regen health, and aim assist if the controller was as capable as the keyboard. It wouldn't have taken years of trial and error to get to the two-stick control schemes we use today.
I love all of their reviews. Even for the games I would never play. I rewatch them multiple times just because I love their insights that they get from playing the game.

No, the stealth parts were optional anyway. I mean the purely menial air ducts and scripted events, like the whole beginning until you're in the castle.

I'm not surprised that somebody that can't even spell "id" correctly cares about review scores.
There's hundreds of different employees at IGN who come and go and each have different tastes.
While I generally think that scores are meaningless and arbitrary, 7.1 (lol, like the .1 really makes a difference) out of 10 is quite good. That's 2 points over average.
That said, IGN once knocked .5 off the score for Bad Company 2's "Vietnam" DLC because Fortunate Son was played too much. They're utter hacks, they only have a lot of subs because of the exclusive looks they always get
My first attempt at playing DOOM 2016 was when my brother set up a virtual machine or whatever it's called so I could play his copy on my computer *in another state.* (I remember *DOS,* people.) Anyway, my computer at the time was *not* up to the task. The first couple minutes of shooting the zombie guys and finding the suit were stuttery, but kinda playable. Then came that first corridor and I must've been getting like half a frame per second. Stuff was still happening, though, so I just kept shooting and running blind until all the demons were dead and the frame rate returned. It was like I'd gone into some sort of berserker fury and woke up covered in blood, surrounded by the dismembered corpses of my enemies.

The problem with modern FPS is that the developers care more about multiplayer targeted towards annoying autistic teenagers.
While I enjoy I online, it seems like a good single player campaign is a thing of the past.

I have never heard Half-Life referred to as a doom clone. Maybe that's something that was said in some gamer magazine before it was released?

I remember a kid at school saying Goldeneye and Star Wars Shadows of the Empire on 64 "weren't as good as DOOM" back in like '97. People just grouped them all together as "DOOM-ish", all the while I could have said "What about Wolfenstein?" if I'd known about it. I'm pretty over ripping on anything for copying elements of something else (with the exception of Pong and Pac-Man clones of the '80s) lol
lordkarel I suppose, I was never a huge fan of Doom or death matches and didn't care much for most shooters back then, It wasn't until Half-Life that I realized how good a shooter could be. Half-Life, in my experience, was genre breaking. However, point taken, I suppose none of my friends described it that way to me.
+JosephJamesScott I'd say the pretense of half life mirrors doom pretty closely. a portal to another world gets opened, and a whole bunch of creatures flood out and start wreaking havoc. Of course half life's story evolves into more, but the basic premise is similar

They might not have been called Doom clones, but games release during that were most certainly compared to Doom, it being the standard that all other shooters had to measure up to.
Not sure about Half Life though, what with it being released after the shift to 3D. It seems more likely that it would be compared to Quake. Or Unreal, released earlier the same year.
So yeah, I think they got the time frame a bit wrong. I can certainly believe that all shooters before the release of Quake were called Doom clones. After Quake though, it seems unlikely.

Doom is a return to form. All you youngins need to play this. The new Unreal Tournament also looks pretty awesome. This is like the thrash metal revival in the early part of this decade. Only better.
Remember when you used to use the lowest graphics settings to make opponents more visible and the game quicker? Doom proves that gameplay and atmosphere make the game.

Where as film has a linear set up, in video games you have to account for every possibility that the game is to allow, so I am guessing that the whole "cinematic experience" fad that has been going on is nothing short of a facade meant to hide the fact that they just want to cut their work load. Original Doom... maybe, but not Brutal Doom. In original Doom you didn't need to aim up or down. Just shoot in the general vicinity of an enemy and they get hit.

The OG Halo was a masterpiece. It still had healthpacks. Also it felt kind of slow because Master Chief is an 8 foot tall tank. It was a different type of game.
I love Doomguy's personality in this game. He just doesn't give a flying fuck about the story.

The first time I saw the Doomslayer do the Terminator 2 style thumbs-up while sinking into the lava, I had to pause my game and just take a moment to really appreciate the developers for putting it in there.
Doom 2016 is the most important FPS since the original Doom. I was so sick of these shitty cover based shooters. I think a major reason why Doom feels so great and hectic is because the enemies shoot dodgeable projectiles. This makes it possible to put you in the middle of a shit storm, surrounded by enemies and still be able to kill everything without camping like a pussy. Of course there a lot of other reasons, but I think this was such an important part of the puzzle.
