- This is a TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun/Superplay) of the PS2 videogame Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 (Collector's Edition), played on PCSX2-rr emulator on PC.
Match requested by TH-cam user "D3ath Scythe" and dedicated to my dear friend "Sinister Shadow".
I left all the previous parts, so now nobody can say "iT's EasY diFFicUltY dUh!" Dumbasses.
Anyway, Tien is a terrible character and playing him against the best character of the game has been a nightmare. I had to study him from scratch just to prepare this video.
Still, he has some perks. Not necessarily positive, but he has 'em...
First, his "Ki Blast Cannon" makes you lose 40HP everytime you use it. You can't die by using it, but it still ruins your Perfect score at the end. Same goes for his Ultimate, "Neo Ki Blast Cannon", which deals different amount of damage to the opponent and yourself, based on which part wins. At least they both don't suffer from damage scaling...
In Attack Win, the opponent receives only 900dmg, while Tien loses only 150HP.
In Defense Win instead, the opponent receives 1425dmg (only Ultimate in the game where Def Win deals more damage than Atk Win scenario), while Tien loses well 500HP! It can even kill you if you are low on HP and will leave you fatigued at the end, not to mention that it will still ruin your Perfect score. Atk Win, on the other hand, will not ruin it, as long as you didn't use Ki Blast Cannon nor took damage beforehand, as I showed in the second match.
About that, I've made 2 versions of this fight. The first one, with original costumes and eng dub, is faithful (kinda of lol) to the anime; but I don't get a Perfect score for the reasons I've already wrote about. In the second version, with alt costumes and jap dub, I used my knowledges of Tien's self-inflicted damage to get a Perfect score even if I used his Ultimate. Looks like game's code checks for self-inflicted damage only after checking if the opponent's downed by the Ultimate, which "tricks" it into giving you a Perfect score at the end.
Speaking of Tien's movepool, it's terrible and almost barren...
He only has FOUR usable cancels and some stuns, and only an handful of them are actually usable. He has quite a lot of good juggles tho, but his terrible movepool prevents him to use 'em effectively.
"pp→pP" is a very fast cancel, can be connected with P itself, K and →K. I believe this string can be canceled into itself making it an infinite, but I didn't bore to test it out.
"←pP" is a extremely fast cancel, almost frame-perfect, and can be connected with the same starters of the previous one. Near a wall, "←p←p" may be an infinite... Also, Tien's "←p" has Armor, just like Yamcha's.
"kk←kK" is Tien best string. Easy, (quite) fast and ending with a very slow cancel that even allows to RBD off of it. Too bad that "←k" is so slow, preventing it from being an infinite.
"←kK" is another very good cancel, with the same feature of the previous one. But, for some reason, "←k" part has no armor, unlike the vast majority of the B3 cast.
"k+g" is a very good stun, but works only on the ground.
"→k" is a back only stun, and it's a shame this starter has no cancels to follow-up, even just a "→kpP" cancel would have been nice.
"→p" is a not-so-fast starter with no cancels and several juggles. Again, if it had like a "→pppP" cancel, it would be so much better.
The funny thing is, these two strings are exactly the same as Yamcha's, both as buttons and animations, but Yamcha has cancels in there, Tien doesn't. He even has armor on those... It's like devs wanted Tien to suck.
"⇉p", Tien sprinting punch attack, is a back stun, but it has such a long recovery than only P can follow it up.
Lastly, for some weird irony, I found out that Tien can use mid-combo Ki Blasts. Specifically, he can link E to P, but he has only two or three moves that stagger the opponent enough to use it... Also, it has to be Frame-Perfect, or it won't continue the combo.
In the end, Tien is overall a very poor character and a terrible choice, no wonder he's low tier.
Don't use him. And don't make me use it, please. :'( - เกม

I'd be hyping him up when he hits me with a combo. That's how I play fighting games. I focus on combos more than winning.

Gosh I remember Cells "WOAHHH" whenever he gets hit. No matter what form he was in it always sounded the same.
Yung Wun Cell changing his voice was an American thing, in Japan he had the same voice all throughout, so he only had one yell to translate.

I swear the Destroyed Archipelago was my favorite stage, especially with it's music.
I like how Tien, a human, was able to put the moves on semi perfect Cell in the anime. They were already well above Frieza at that point, so this is implying that Tien could fuck up a planet buster, no sweat. This is still so impressive to me.

Only because of Neo Tri-Beam / Shin Kikoho. I don't think the humans were even as strong as Namek Frieza but I definitely agree Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha could easily fuck up a planet.

The thing that BUGS me the most in Budokai 3 is that Cell's voices are reversed of what they are in the anime.
Funny thing is most PS2 DBZ games do that. Figures.

This is the best DBZ game imo. The mechanics aren't too complicated, but still allow for lots of creative combos. Long live Budokai.

Honestly I like the mechanics of raging blast 2 the most it felt OK like there was just enough freedom with each character to make unique combos
Between this and super dbz, you can't lose.
The humans in Dragonball have been falling behind ever since Freiza Saga so videos like these bring appreciation for characters who got left behind. I have to commend you good sir on the speed at which you control your combos even after such hard difficulty.

Ah yes, BT3 where my favorite character had some stun potential and you could technically infinite if you got someone against a wall, but if they got you into a combo you were fucked. Almost no armor when attacking, combo startups were slow... Poor Tien, really got the short end of the stick in this gsme

What does it mean that not all characters share the same moveset.
Lmao I loved this game but it always felt as deep as a puddle.
Nowhere in the game it explains how complex these combos are, which somewhat justifies how easy the specials are, but, truth to be told, I always sticked to the classic p,p,p,p>e and p,p,k,k stuff. It's kind of ironic considering I play some string-heavy fighting games.
It means exactly that: DBZ Budokai 3 is a deep fighting game with a complex series of mechanics in play when you try to pull out the best of it. Specifically, Tien is a very shallow character with a terrible movepool which looks just a Yamcha's movepool rip-off, but worse.
I suggest you to watch some of my newer videos and read the characters analyisis I wrote for 'em, you're gonna get surprised by the deepness this game hides. ;)

I used to cheese Infinite World by overpowering Piccolo's special beam cannon since the opponent would never try to dodge but thisbis just on another level

B3 characters have very different movesets it's just the game uses the same fighting animation for most of the characters which make them appear samey.
Bardock for example is the king of juggles and close-quarter damage while Omega Shenron has a varied and intricate combo structure (he lacks the universal PPPPE chain) along with the ability to delay Dragon Thunder and slack one on top of another. You have characters like Piccolo and Dabura are great at controlling the distance.

I just realised that Cell's voice actor also voiced Reuental in LOGH
I did not know that but also in every single Budokai game cells voice is glitched and no matter what form you use you always have his first form voice unless you're using something like the Spirit Bomb in the first game which has him play his correct voice

In the original Japanese release(s) of the Dragon Ball Z game(s), Cell only had one voice. This is because- unlike the English dubs -Cell's voice never changed in the original anime, and thus the original game needed only to record one set of voices for Cell.
This results in the English team having fewer files to overwrite.
This can also be found in Budokai Tenkaichi 3 where SSJ4 Goku appears, but roars in Kid Goku's voice.
Same thing: same Japanese voice = fewer files to overwrite.

As long as you have 501HP when using it, no, you won't die, 'cause it deals 500HP of damage to Tien.
