By the technical definition of "bad tone," yes, it is. It has way too much gain for a technically perfect mix. To the listener, no, it's perfect for the music he plays and writes.
This is groundbreaking shit for the metal engineering community, for the single fact it took people 20 years to make a digital effects chain to perfectly emulate his razorbacks tone to the fuckin T
Dime cranked his mids on an EQ and then scooped them on the amp, but he’d have like 3 separate EQ’s all with cranked mids. His tone wasn’t exactly scooped but it just had what it needed in the right place
@@coopergoss350 IIRC Dime used a Randall solid state back in the day, for starters. But what he did was push the mids hard in the front end with a 6-band MXR EQ, scooped the mids back out on the amp controls, and followed up with one or two parametric EQs in the loop. It's a really unique sound, because the mids are distorted but they're also scooped at the same time.
That’s really spot on. What I’ve always loved is dime’s guitar solos and riffs sound like Super Nintendo/ arcade games to me. Look up “X-men, apocalypse snes” it sounds just like dimebag
I'm honestly confident I could do a decent mashup between Hetfield and Anselmo in terms of vocals. If somebody did a full instrumental for this, I'd gladly give it a shot. This is BRUTAL.
Still cool, but Dime's tone is perfect for his playing style and the interplay between him and Rex, doesn't work NEARLY so well for a rhythm/lead situation to my ears.
Unfortunately, if you listen back to those old Pantera records, you'll realize that's exactly what Dime sounded like. Those old Randalls have some serious "bee box" gain.
They are holding tone in their hands.

I think it’s a bad tone but dimebag knew how to use it’s abrasiveness to his advantage
So it's not a "bad tone"??@@metalboy1986
@@ionlywatch Idk I just can’t think of any other way to describe it. Generally it sounds bad to me if you play most anything that’s not pantera

Nobody can replace Dime, but Dime could've been in any metal band in the 80s and 90s and would've crushed

Imagine how heavy Metallica could be with Prime 1988 James hetfield, Dimebag and Vinnie with Jason on backup vocals
nope prime 01 or 96 phil for vocals maybe rhythm cuz he plays rhythm for some of his side/main projects

are all pantera and metallica tones just scooped mids 💀
Metallica has lots of mids except for ajfa tone
Dime cranked his mids on an EQ and then scooped them on the amp, but he’d have like 3 separate EQ’s all with cranked mids. His tone wasn’t exactly scooped but it just had what it needed in the right place
Metallica isn't near as scooped as some other bands I've heard, and Pantera actually did some weird shit to produce their tone back in the day
@@FyreofShadowI’m curious, what kind of weird shit

Put everything except mids at maximum, play on bridge pickup, using lots of harmonics too and always abuse the trem system
