Great stuff, mate! This method is getting more popular nowadays. Maybe also helps to start with a fewer plants and save some money because of that. Loved the editing, and the sound with this mic is pretty cool :)
I am on a college budget, I am going to try this dark start method today after I grab some hardscape and aquasoil. This gives me time to save up for plants, heater, and the light. Thanks and wish me luck!
I used the dark start 3 times now and will do so when ever I set up a new tank. It simply works 👍 Especially with wood in the layout it pays off! Cool video!
I haven't even decided if I want to have an aquarium or not, but I have done dozens of hours of research already on how to set up a healthy aquarium system with plants and denitrification 😂 I'm halfway to taking a marine biology course at this rate. If I do end up getting an aquarium, deep substrate hardscaping, APT Start, and dark start will definitely be the methods I will use! I love your design compositions and would love to see a design utilizing highly striated stone like pagoda or ancient petrified stone as I am incredibly drawn to those and the ancient history they hold!
Apt start 🙂 I heard about the dark start method many months ago. May have been you Jurijs, lol. It is a miracle. I let it cycle for 2 months and changed water only twice. No algae, no plant melting! Amazing. But you need a lot of patience 😄
Apt start , great video as always very helpful and looking forward to giving this a go. Love the stye of the video by the way always very professional, looking forward to more
Yes its in my view probably the most important discovery of the last years because it actually works, the tip about slowing down the filter is important i found out. Also lookin forward to the osmosis video!
Great information here, I recommend this method, super easy and fully successful cycled tank in 3 weeks... was able to plant and add fish/cleanup crew... everything is doing great after a couple months - Thank-you for this!
I am trying this method now and I am loving the results so far. Have been running the tank for a little over three weeks now (saw your video almost as soon as it came out!). I am not doing water changes yet. Ammonia has been zero since week 2 but I am waiting for nitrates and nitrites to read lower than they are right now. Will need to try this APT method thing. I used API quick start couple of times throughout the three weeks. This would be a create methods for red aquarium plants that reportedly don't tolerate high nitrates. Thanks for sharing!
Apt start. I recommend using ramshorn snail during the dark start after a few days. These reduce bacterial and fungal plaque very effectively. They also do not interfere when you start planting later. If you feed your fish in the right way, there will also be no mass reproduction of snails.
@@IndoorEcosystem After more than a year I have so many shrimps in my 250 litre aquarium that I have almost no ramshorn snails left. I believe that the shrimp and snails compete for the biofilm. I regularly use BacterAE to feed the biofilms so that snails and shrimps can still find food. Also, soft water, low pH and CO2 are not very healthy for snails either.
What do you think about inserting a few water changes into this process, frequency and amount based on tests? You did a change when things got very cloudy. Maybe changing water to limit levels within certain bounds, not based on timing, would make sense because it would keep bacteria from overpopulating and later having partial die-off.
My last tank was a dark start, and I don’t think I would do it any other way in the future. So many benefits, and it only costs patience. Would love to try out APT start in my next build.
Ty for this video. If i remember good, this technic comes from Austria owner shop (liquid nature) in ones of ur previous interview video, this technic traveled so far and now all newbies are doing it that's awesome. And it works well. Thanks for sharing guys. ❤
Hi Juriys..been watching your channel for the past years..amazing scapes you have there..just one quire's.. suppose now on hand I don't have the Apt S..could I just let a few small fishes in the aquarium to start off the good bacteria in the filter..thanks
Great video, thanks. You do a water change at one week to reduce tannins - would a carbon filter or media such as Purigen have sufficed to reduce the tannins? Thanks.
Thank you for sharing this! Can you a do a dark start tank w/o a filter? I'm planning on doing a 6.6 gallon, live planted Betta tank that will be self-sustaining, using an Aqua Natural Bio-substrate. Since I won't be using the filter for a Betta is it needed for the dark start? Thank you, so much for your advice! 🙂🐟
currently i am getting white cotton fuzzy stuff on all of my aquaium plants and some fuzzy green stuff on substrate..doing water change ..reducing fetilizer and light didnt help much(need to clean almost daily)..tank is a month old(20% planted) .. i started co2(baking soda+citric acid) for 5 days ..i have ordered more plants.. hope that will help..
Do you need to add a bacteria to the tank to use the dark start method. Next video please address when adding elements back to the water do you need to do that before adding it to your tank or can you do it after?
APT Start. I've been using the dark start method since I seen yourself and MJ Aquascaping do videos on it, its great if you decide you don't like the hardscape layout because you can change it without having to move plants around.
Lg Alex

Thanks guys! After watching Lucas workshop video I can up with the idea to make another video about this method
The mic was a nice touch for sure.

Wonderful!
APT start - nice to see you back ! Even better content ! Can’t wait to see this set up and how you’ll be planting it !
Thanks, make sure to comment on my community poll regarding the plant choice
Apt start , great video as always very helpful and looking forward to giving this a go. Love the stye of the video by the way always very professional, looking forward to more
Thanks, appreciate your support
Randomly awake at 3am and Jurijs uploads a new vid. Sweet! Great vid with great info 👍
Oh, apt start 🤙
Haha 😂 sleep well now😉
Thanks for sharing the Dark Start method. I'll try it for my next aquascape project.
APT Start for the win!!
Great video, I've been using the dark start method on all my freshwater tanks for years, never have had an issue.
This is the video we were waiting for.currently doing a DSM of my 4ft tank.
Apt Start, very proud to see you using a product made by a fellow singaporean!
Great video Juri! I will be using APT START as well as performing the dark start on my UNS 60T!
Never heard of APT start. Glad to know it exists
Wie immer ein MEGA Video! APT START
Schön dein content regelmäßig sehen zu können.
Danke dir vielmals!
In few days my new tank arrive, definitly want to try this method. I dobr have APT start but try some alternative. Greatw video.
I have used this method since I heard about it. Very helpful!
Yes its in my view probably the most important discovery of the last years because it actually works, the tip about slowing down the filter is important i found out. Also lookin forward to the osmosis video!
Apt start! Dark start is a great method to start an aquascape, easy but rewarding!👍🏼
Great info, have to try APT START in my next project! Thanks
You should!
Apt start- interesting method. I’ll be trying it on my next scape👍
Due to a crack on my 60P I will have to re-home the setup to another one. I will give DSM a try for sure. With APT Start, if I'm lucky.
Glad to see a new video from you Juri! Would love to try APT start but just happy to see this informative content.
Will do the dark start on my new 60p. My first Iwagumi.
great to see you back being active on TH-cam again :) APT START
Cheers, thanks for watching

I'm definitely using the dark start method on my new scapes, APT START
could you combine a dark start and then a dry start?
technically yes, but doesn't make sense. Instead I would precycle the filter on a different tank, while the dry start is on
where its possible to get that ADA magazine??
I have yet to try this mehtod, but I will for sure when the time comes for my next aquascape. Great video! APT START
Definitely try it, whenever possible I use this method every time

Apt start. Im going to start a new aquarium soon so I would love to try this product
APT Start - awesome video! Will definitely try this in my new shallow tank

Yes great idea ☝️
I second this! It works really well but you do need to keep the feeding perfect or they will populate pretty fast!

@@lazygardener6278 makes a lot of sense as long as the shrimp win I'm a happy man!
As always great information.I have tried this method and has really helped alot.🙌🏻
API Start. Thanks for the video - I never understood how dark start worked without fish producing ammonia. Now I get it!
Glad it was helpful!
APT start, would love to try this!
Great video, will be testing this method in the future. APT start.....

I heard about it years before, but it was this Austria guy who made me try and talk about it.
APT Start.
Would love the try this on my next scape.
Apt start. Very interesting video, I’ll give that a try when I set up my next tank.
let me know how it goes
Apt Start. These products seem so cool. Being from Australia I don’t think I’ve seen these so I would love to use them
I think they ship worldwide, check out the link in description

Great video! APT START from the philippines😊

Good day! Tell me, does it make sense to connect water aeration at this time, when I use the dark method? Thank you.
APT Start. Very easy to understand
APT START . I didn't know you can squeeze an old filter to jumpstart the bacteria. Will Keep it in mind next time Thank you
A new video, a perfect start to a Sunday! APT START
Enjoy 😉
Apt start. Your videos are awesome, I’m worried about melting plants in my bowl aquarium personally
Looking forward to using APT Start in the setup of my new ADA 120p.
you will enjoy it 😉
Very excited to try this method in my next scape 🙂Thank you for this video and many important info 😉
You welcome 🙏 I’m sure you will enjoy the method

Try it
APT Start
I like your skills!
Thanks for the info on this one, spyderco pocket knifes are great, looks like the best way to start a planted tank. APT start
Wish I had your studio to build scapes. I’m stuck with nano tanks here. APT Start
Great, my next projects will be all nano 😉
Apt start i can't wait for the next video
That APT Start is cool
Great video, will be the method I follow while making my next setup❤
Perfect! You will enjoy!
Great Video, Apt Start
Glad you liked it!
APT start, will it also help with used aquasoil?
Do u turn on filter while doing dark start even though it’s a new filter?
APT Start. I've been using the dark start method since I seen yourself and MJ Aquascaping do videos on it, its great if you decide you don't like the hardscape layout because you can change it without having to move plants around.
Another benefit of the method 😉
Can we do this in an established tank with trace amounts of black beard algae? For a few days? Just the black out part? APT START
Thank you for these tips

Loving this scape! APT START!
Thank you Jurijs! Great video! APT START.
I'm starting a new tank and will try this method this time and apt start :)
Perfect, tell me how it goes. If your LFS doesn’t have APT start you can order online through the link in description
great video APT START !
Glad you enjoyed it
Im curious, are you able to do Dry start method after doing Dark start method? I am currently on my 2nd week doing my Dark start.
Hi, I'm about to try it, APT START
APT START of course!!
planning on new 4ft tank next month.. i did see some scapers dark start put fish food during dark start.. is it compulsory ? apt start
APT START 🎉 Great new way to start new experiences, Thanks
You bet!
apt start. great method and nice rock work
Nice video. I m trying this method. But when may i introduce fishes ?thx
Basically you are safe right after the dark start; since your filter and substrate are already cycled.
Thanks APT Start.
Apt start. Can’t wait to try this.
You will love this method
Good stuff APT Start.
Thanks great video and info 👍😀
Glad it was helpful!
nice scape de need more :) APT START
Apt start. O Will try for sure!
APT start... have not seen this in South Africa yet...
It’s kind of new, but you can order online from APT website / check link in description
Awesome 👍!
Thanks! 👍
APT Start. Appreciate the great information!
Glad it was helpful!
With an already mature filter the cycling time will drastically decrease?
yes, but acidic conditions in the substrate take time to get stable as well as excess leeching or absorbing of minerals from the water
When using the dark start method what type of media do you use in your filter? All sponges for mechanical filtration or totality bio media
I use 50% sponges and 50% bio. Basically whatever I intend to use in the filter long term
APT Start Rocks!!! 😉
