Same Exact 99Yamaha XL760, Same issue except on the Front Piston. Have the manual, It was good for torque settings, but everything else that made me decide to do it myself came from you, and the effort you spent putting this together. Bottom end was flawless, no point in fixing what was not broken. Had Full Bore do the resleeving, went with Pro-X Pistons, the original pistons are prone to catching a ring on the exhaust, even mine with only 100 hours on the engine. Can't thank you enough. With upgraded pistons, Still was $1800 less than than the shop wanted for the rebuild.
    Thanks,
    RED

I'm glad I could help you out a little. My ski has been running pretty much flawless since. Are you deleting the oil injection also? I believe that's what caused my problems.

I've thought about deleting the oil injection, lots of opinions on that. Mine only had 100 hours on this whole thing should not have happened. I think mine failed because of the OEM piston design is what happened. They are a bit different on the Pro-X pistons & sleeves. Suspect mine failed for lack of warm up, gotta run them low and slow until the rings and pistons heat up.
However I am going to stop the kids from using Walmart oil gonna use the amsoil from here on out, More expensive and takes planning, but worth it to avoid a repeat of rebuild. Its been fun, but I'm glad it is almost over.

    have a 93 wave runner
i add a little 2 stroke oil to the gas the 2 tubes going from the oil pump up to the carb drain and often times your running the engine for a minute with no oil in the mix if it's been a day sitting

I have a 97 Blaster 2 which has done the same thing, although i seem to have bad piston slap, did you figure out the cause or is it a common thing on the 760 engines as i see Red Pyrate mentioned further down the comments

Did SBT take that bad piston as an exchange with no fuss? I recall reading on their site that they wouldn't accept a blown piston without charging more. I have a really beat up cylinder and a blown piston that I'm about to exchange and was curious. Thanks for the great video.

I didn't have any problems. The piston wasn't in horrible shape though.

Where you at on this? Did you end up sending the cylinders out to Fullbore or had someone do them locally? Just picked up a 98 XL1200 where the front cylinder's piston was scored, previous owner tore it down before i bought it, and now it's going to be fun trying to figure out if it had an air leak from a bad gasket, crank seal or if the oil injection line fell off... No battery in it, I ordered one, so i cant tell how many hours it had on it. I'd like to see how you end up. I'd recommend you doing a leak down test on it before you start it. If its got an air leak, which i think it does by how melted that piston was, you'll be right back at tearing this thing down in no time.

Paul Ostaszewski it's done but I wrecked my motorcycle 22 days ago and am just learning how to walk again so the rebuild video will be a little while before it comes out. I used a Kit from Sbt to rebuild it. Runs good now

I bought a 02 xlt1200 and it's locked up. Fixing to pull it and go through Everything....
For $999 pwcengine has a rebuilt engine with a 2 year no fault warranty. Think that's my plan..

How did you get the new pistons in the sleeve from the top? Just purchased the exchange kit from SBT and would like to leave the bottom end in the ski

I'm almost positive I squeezed the rings together by hand and slid the top end down onto the pistons

Where/how do you get new sleeves and pistons? I have the same issue. Send pistons and sleeve body to a machinist?

Can they hone the sleeve and repair? Or do you just get new parts?

Probably tough to find good engines these days. I would think if yours are not rebuildable you would be better off to part the rest out.
