  • This rebuild process should be very similar for any Yamaha 2-stroke
    Parts were from SBT - not sponsored in anyway

    Good god this video is a blessing to find dude! tHANKKK YOU! About to rebuild mine, but I pulled mine out of the ski so I don't destroy my back tinkering on it.

      Thats a smart idea, I don't think my back ever recovered after this job! Good luck!

      Thank you! Glad to hear its not just mine - I was worried at 12 minutes long a lot of people wouldn't watch this, but I'll keep that in mind for future videos.

    Hey man, good video, nice to see some info on this ski. I got the same one and just cleaned the power valves and installed the clips and coupler. Rebuilt the carbs but that’s where I am having issues. Also blocked off the oil pump. What RPM is yours running at outside the water? I’m trying to set it and it says 1300 but that’s in the water. Also I put new plugs in and they seem to be quite wet and clear ( not black) when I pull them out. Also the front plug gets hotter than the front. Any thoughts?

    Did you bypass the oil injectors? Just got my cylinder back, had to resleeve the same one you changed out. I do have the clips you mentioned for the power valve, so waiting on the bypass block off plates. I've read that it's fairly common for the lines to pop off, which happened on mine (got this thing dirt cheap, so don't mind investing the money in it). There's a guy here in Houston that I sent the head to, bought the sleeve and piston kit off Ebay. The parts I have look exactly like the kit you have, but only $60 shipped versus the kit cost from SWB! Wouldn't be surprised if they are using the same parts and jacking up the prices. Mines been fresh water it's whole life, so I didn't want to do the exchange, heard horror stories of people getting salt water replacement back from that place......

      @Christofo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, they were bypassed years ago on this one. That sounds like a great deal, I will have to check eBay in the future!

    Question you don’t need to put any of the pistons at TDC I’m familiar with auto mechanic that’s why I ask this type of question

    • @Christofo
      @Christofo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do not - on a 2 stroke engine like this there is no valve train to worry about.

    I work on skis on the side. Why do I see these 2 stroke, 2 cylinder Yamahas needing jug work more than all the others?

    • @scrubly_jr
      @scrubly_jr ปีที่แล้ว

      they are sensitive engines. if I had to guess I'd say it's probably oil pump failure. they don't have a sensor that tells you when the engine isn't getting any oil which is why so many people do the oil pump delete and run premix

    Vosts about $230 to get a cylinder welded and re plated. That sbt cyl and piston probably wont last the time it would have taken for millennium tech to get your cyl welded plated and sent back to you

    Question what is that know on the left hand side of the handle what is it for

    • @jkddaddy
      @jkddaddy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the two small knobs under the left handlebar? fuel on/off/reserve selector and choke handle. Or do you mean the "trigger" on the left grip itself? if this ski has it, it's the quick trim adjust system - QTS (?) it redirects the jet a bit up or down to change how the ski handles.

    This guy missed so many steps it's not even funny and he also went back with the old power valve links which is a big No-No you need to upgrade to level Lynx because the pain vibrates out and destroys the engine on the stock Yamaha ones he didn't check fuel pressure which is probably what blew that piston you have to upgrade all your oil lines there is a lot more to it than just putting the motor together

    • @Christofo
      @Christofo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Almost like you can’t film every single tiny step. This ski ran great for a long time before being sold after this video. It had wave eater clips on the power valves. Upgrade oil lines? This ski had the oil injection deleted and was pre-mixed. Maybe you should stop making so many assumptions.
