Yeah, I've hired some amazing Filipinas to work for me, and had a Pinay best friend in college. The main thing is remembering that they simply don't want to disappoint you and they hate the burden of being the barer of bad news. If you are someone who is very frank and comfortable with conflict resolution you'll be a definite asset in the lives of your Flipino loved ones. The men, I've found, are just like most other men... However, women will ghost before wanting to disappoint you.

    • @jordanburrill7182

This makes much sense. Thai culture has similar behaviors, such as 'saving face' and not appearing to 'taking offense'. In the end, both are self-defeating to person learning and growth. And explains the continual poverty cycles, so often observed.
And I'm afraid other countries (including the US), are headed. Now, we have a war of 'Narratives'.
      ❤️

      @MyWatchIsEnded ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@boracay12 ugh that's disgusting. I despise people who can lie to someone's face because they want to avoid conflict when the lie itself creates the conflict in the first place. It's a self replicating issue and it's circular logic. It reminds me of Japan where they will lie to your face to remain 'respectful' despite not having any respect for anybody.

Lemme chip in on Kevin's question abt family business. A filipina lady living abroad but visiting her family gave her niece 2000 peso. The idea was that the niece would buy supplies so she could sell food during a fiesta, and so the girl diligently did. At the end of the day she was very happy, as she made 1500 peso. Well.. that was not profit, but turnover. I could not even make clear to her that by NOT buying any supplies and NOT spend the whole day selling food, she would have had 500 peso more. She only say that she made 1500 peso

funny thing: i learned some agressive trading/arbitrage from poor filipina girl/scammer. Her technique of trading ordinary goods was a great school for me. I'd say she taught me a great deal about trading without being any economy professional. Years later it saved me in times of extreme poverty.
We all tend to treat filipino people as poor, unable to do bussines, unable to survive on the market. Yet they are still alive - it's us who miss something, we don't understand this economy. Otherwise 90% of the nation would starve already.

    Hi, Pea!
I loved how you used Wimpy's "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." There aren't that many young fellas out there, even here in America, who will get that reference. The old cartoons, TV shows, and movies just aren't shown that much anymore. In fact, my elementary school students were delighted when I introduced them to things like the "I Love Lucy" skit "Slowly I Turned," Abbott & Costello's "Who's on First," the Herculoids, Jonny Quest, Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner, and others. Like Anne Murray's song said, "Everything Old is New Again." The kids hadn't seen the old stuff, so they weren't familiar with it, so it was completely new to them. I never got around to showing them Popeye cartoons, though.
Also, I especially loved how you used that line about hamburgers in your advice about setting up a food stand. Well played!
Not knowing how to kiss? Hmm...
I can't comment much on that subject. I don't know how to kiss, either. I've only been kissed 3 times in my life, and I'm 63. The kisses were all at once during an acting class, and my acting "partner" complained the whole time about me being the man she had to kiss instead of some other guy.
    Sigh.
I don't see why Filipinas can't get pregnant from tree fairies. After all, not all fairies are tiny people (those tiny folk are pixies, just one kind of fairy), and even if all the fairies in the Philippines are the tiny variety, fairies do have plenty of magic. Remember the old saying, "It's not the size of the wand, it's the magic in it that counts."
Or in the Philippines, it might be worded, "It's not the size of the banana, it's the magic in it that counts." (Banana being the term I've often heard you use before.)
    The Tampo 2000:
I've heard many references to tampo, Pea, both on your channel and others. But it's only been about women who use this practice. Do Filipino men use tampo, too, as a way to show their displeasure over something that their girlfriends/wives have said or done?
Thanks for another great Q&A, Pea.

    Hi Pea !
I always enjoy when you compare our cultures and how “different, but the same “ we are .
Where I live , the two basic languages are Spanish and English .
And the resultant street language is Spanglish … a mix of both .
Also , what we call TexMex culture .
With classic Spanish speakers , who speak the original from Spain , as confused as the Brits trying to understand Southern American English .
Especially when pronounced with a laconic Texas drawl .
We also get South American and Central American folks here who speak regional dialects as well .
It’s always fun listening to a Spanish speaker rattling off a long explanation about something , only to break into precise technical English halfway through …
Layer that with Native American ( Indigenous) loan words and place names as well .
It’s always changing with the influence of the internet and TV .
Cowboy jargon gives way to modern pop culture .
I laughed at your legend of the “ Faeries “ .
We have traditions of the fae folk getting young girls “with child “ and the resultant halflings too .
Faeries , Sprites , Pixies and Elves …
The Wee Folk seem to be well traveled… and randy little beggars wherever they are .
The picture of a large eyed Pea next to a tree , taking a wee .. while watching in all directions …
    Makes me laugh .
Watch yourself , girl … even today .
Some of us Irish still have a bit of the magic in us .
We might appear out of nowhere , when you least expect it …

Oh etymology is one of my favorite hobbies .
Tracing different words back through history .
How parent words in ancient languages have dissipated and spread through more modern times with trade and conquest .
How spellings and pronunciation change and evolve with use .
Like with different alphabets and their forms , words are a window into our past .

Good answer on the regular people and understanding business. I'm a Filipino who could never make sense how businesses work until someone showed me and made me understand every line in a PNL (profit and loss statement). When i understood the buckets then it became much easier to manage expenses and then set the mark up to get a profit.. and yes.. it was an American that taught me. I hope to retire in the Philippines one day and share this basic knowledge with at least my relatives to start. Good luck and thanks.

I think I remember you telling us all that English as a second language was a lot easier for the entire country to learn than having Tagalog being the countries main language and all the other dialects secondary. Because English was a lot easier to learn then Tagalog.
I’m kind of guessing from the outsiders perspective would make it seem more like business and immigration made easier. But I have to agree with the first statement because I can’t get any of my Filipino friends and in-laws or even my wife to teach me their dialect or even Tagalog because they all say it’s too difficult. My wife is from Pampanga and still speaks more Tagalog with her family because it’s easier than her own dialect.

I remember those days, they were fabulous. Then, if you move on to a new partner, that learning curve is not so awkward. The thing to know is that everyone is different and take your time. There is no need to rush especially if you are in a different country!

French kissing is for making out. When you are married for many years a gentle "standard" kiss can be more intimate than a french kiss. I think Filipina, from my experience, are more intimate and less "sex as play" focused.

A interesting video Miss Pea. When i stayed with a Filipino family, some of the questions you answered were the ones i asked with one exception as to physical love. I remember when we got into a discussion about business and money, and Fernando said to me quote "One Day Millionaire", which meant if a Filipino man had a 1 million pesos/dollars, it would be spent in one day! Curious as to why, i followed thru and found out how harrowing and sometimes uncertain life is...I can see their point as for today you live and tomorrow will take care of itself with Gods help. Interesting thoughts and this and other topics. Peace!

I've been friends with a Filipina for a couple years, chat once in awhile. I've been very clear from the start "friends only". Couple of times she caught feelings, got upset, and I had to remind her "friends only". She settled down and we've had a good friendship. She's fairly well to do, owns several properties she rents to Westerners. She has created and run other businesses in the past. And she's always looking for new business ventures. Several times she's pitched deals to me to get me to invest. My approach is business like. "I don't want to own a XYZ business." Most men seem to see this as giving money to a Filipina or family in exchange for social favor. That's dumb. For one thing Filipinos don't respect giving away money. I also say "I have more profitable ways to make money." I look at the deal as how it can benefit me, not her. How it benefits her is her responsibility, not mine. And then I brainstorm ideas with her. "Why don't you get a Filipino investor?" And ways to do that. This is when reality sets in. Other Filipinos are going to look at the deal exactly as I do...will I make money?
This is exactly the same in the West. A person with some wealth will get pitched investment ideas endlessing from family, strangers and even friends. Most people of wealth, at least those who earned it, have enough experience to separate business and personal relationships. If a deal is truly good the wealthy person may go for it. Risk of losing the relationship is factored in.
For many expats they've never been considered wealthy. Never or almost never had deals being pitched. They have no experience how to say "no" or how to structure or evaluate a deal. That gets them in over their heads real fast. They suddenly feel wealthy and start throwing around money like a billionaire...but actual billionaires don't throw around money. That's only most people's perspective.
Throwing money at a Filipina and her family to get them to like you is simp behavior. Doesn't work in the West, East, North or South.

One thing I've always enjoyed about your channel (in addition of course to just watching you, picking up on your outrageous sense of humor, and just generally enjoying a provocative, one-sided conversation with a quite intelligent and sexy filipina!) is, your way of telling it like it is: simply steering people around the deep cultural (and psychological) gaps between us. (I think air travel and the internet give us a false sense of commonality, minimizing the idea that we're foreign in more ways than language. Nowadays it's so easy to survive being superficial.) You're so right about the average filipinos' business sense, in my experience. Yes, a few do have the knack, but most don't know what they don't know, and think all they have to do is maybe imitate what they've seen someone else do. I think it's because, individually, they have so few good role models for it in their lives. When I'd suggest to friends they get a job in a store or restaurant first, they'd react like, "What's there to know? Anybody could do my boss's job! After all, all they do is just boss other people to do the work!"... Wish there were more examples of foreigners wisely helping rather than giving, that was great!... What a good sport your mom is!! God bless her. I see why she was a good mom. (I laughed and I'm glad you got the roses, that you never forgot them.) Take care

Talking about language. I spent most of my life not understanding why some cultures were so backwards. Then i was reading a work by a linguist. She explained that people from her country didn't understand what some western NGO workers were talking about because the subject was never discussed there and their language had no words to use that would enable discussion. This really shocked me and opened my eyes to how language controls and restricts entire cultures. One reason I wish that the Filipinos weren't so proud of having 120+ languages.

    • @danielcobbins8861
      @danielcobbins8861 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you thought having 120 different languages were bad enough, consider that Chinese has 600 different dialects. China did solve that problem, somewhat by making Mandarin the official language, but people in the provinces of China still use their local dialect.

The Philippines has 2 official languages. Tagalog and English. And as far as school, it is easy to get textbooks and course materials in English. They would have to come up with new materials in Tagalog and why bother doing that? Anyone who is college-educated can speak English, so it is not a problem to get teachers and professors to teach classes in English.
I have noticed a trend towards more English and less Tagalog in the Philippines. There are large areas of the Philippines, such as Mindanao, where Tagalog is a distant third in terms of language use. And with the prevalence of the internet and western media, English is widely spoken and understood in the Philippines.
