  • In this video we upgrade our 3DSets Rancher 3D Printable Jeep to a brushless motor with a belt drive gearbox from the newer Bamboo vehicle. We also try on some new cardan joints and test fit some 3D printed open differentials that don't go to well.

    Are you able to provide a link for the updated Cardan (not sure if thats how its spelled) joints? you mentioned they upgraded them at around 1:30, but I can't seem to find a link on their website. It doesn't look to be included in their spare parts either, I have downloaded the latest version of the Rancher model 1.

      I don't think they've been released for the rancher model yet. But you can get them with the bamboo. Hopefully they release them for the rancher soon.

    Any word on when an official belt drive upgrade might be available for the Rancher?

    I've had so much trouble with the Rancher 6 Gearbox, its driving me nuts, the case wont fit correctly. Any tips or tricks you recommend?

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My only issues with the gearbox were with the case... I printed all the gears on a Prusa I believe but the case was on an Ender 3 and it ended up being too small in the Z dimension and I had to pull it together tightly with the screws and even still there were gaps but it functioned. Once I got that figured out though I never had any issues with it. My only advice I guess would be to make sure that your printer is calibrated properly so the bearings fit nicely and then lube everything super well.

      @@rcprinter thank you! That’s exactly my current problem, it seems to be with the case, it end up with about a 1-2mm gap that won’t close. How did you take care of it? I believe it’s on the Z axis

      @@rcprinter I had problems printing it on my CR10 v3, trying it on my Voxelab Aquila V2 to see if it’s better

      @@AlejandroAlcantara hehe I ended up always having a gap and where there wasn't a gap the plastic eventually cracked a bit but the gearbox never failed :) I really should have reprinted it but it was one of my first prints and I didn't know much better. Looking back now the gap was originally there because I had an issue with that printer for the longest time with one of the screws on the gantry loosening up that caused the print head to shift up or down slightly during the print causing the bottom few layers to be extra squished together.
      Here's a pic of my old gearbox when I finally retired it: tinyurl.com/2p9enept

      @@AlejandroAlcantara That's a good idea... maybe also try printing a calibration cube www.thingiverse.com/thing:1278865 and see if you're getting 20mm in all dimensions

    hey sorry to be a pain but im still having issues with my rc f1 car, the turning will turn to the right fine but for some reason it just doesnt turn to the left.

      You might have to remove your servo arm, make sure your controller is on and your steering trim is centered, power up your esc to send power to your servo to center the servo gears, and then re-attach the arm in the centered location.

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might also check that your steering connecting rod isn't bending. Use a stiffer connecting rod if it is bending.

      I had similar issues, in my case it was looseness in the servo saver, I solved it by adding a 1mm thick spacer under it.

    did they sell you that gearbox? I just bought and I am printing out the 4 door rancher now but the files have the old gear driven gearbox

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're going to release a new belt driven gearbox upgrade for the rancher eventually but right now you can only get it with the files for the new bamboo.

    • @patrickm6000
      @patrickm6000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rcprinter well that sucks. I'd rather build it with the belt drive now rather than having to redo it later. I'm still printing it so maybe I'll do the gearbox last and who knows maybe they'll get back to me. I sent them an email through the website.

    • @rcprinter

      @@patrickm6000 yeah I totally get that. Hopefully its not too long until they offer the upgrade. Its definitely a worthwhile upgrade IMO.

      @@rcprinter are the driveshafts from the bamboo fitting in the rancher? is that what you did? I am building the 4door rancher so I assume the shafts would be different. Hopefully they respond to my email

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickm6000 I'm honestly not sure about the longer Rancher Wagon specifically but the longer of the two shafts from the bamboo (front) should work for the regular sized Rancher both front and rear. If you needed slightly longer joints for the wagon they'd be pretty simple to extend in TinkerCAD.

    I like how 3Dsets are progressing with there models, I'm currently printing the new Bamboo model and I will going to try their new Belt type Gearbox, but If I will upgrade my Landy or if I ever print the Rancher I would definitely use the Mods that this guy makes

    YOU must check this out! his conversion is really good, don't get me wrong though, I really like the idea of the 3d printed gearboxes, diffs, and everything else, but I believe that if your going to use it mostly outdoors some metal accessories are a Must.

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just watching this now... pretty cool what some people are capable of. He's likely going to get much more life out of those metal parts than we will out of pla.
      I'm printing the Bamboo right now as well! ... I already have the axles fully complete since they didn't work out for my Rancher :)

    • @solidlift

      @@solidlift i did open front and locked rear

    • @rcprinter

      @@solidlift I'm going full open with this one. If I end up needing more traction I'll switch the rear but its always bugged me a little bit that my fully locked rancher doesn't turn well on pavement or indoors so I'm going fully the other direction with the Bamboo build... printing is now done except for the rear lights!
