I have answered my own question. When you are navigating, the next road on the journey is displayed at the top of the screen. If you touch this, you'll be presented with the entire list of roads/highways for the journey. There is the usual settings wheel in sight too. Pressing this, brings up garbage cans which you can use to delete any roads you wish to avoid. Hope this is helpful to more than just me!
So do you know anything about traffic on the navigation map? I do have a sirius subscription; When I purchased the vehicle for the first few months, the roads would have an orange color with lines when they had a lot of lines when there was traffic. And then that stopped. And the car hasn't had that in a good year. I figured it was a paid service. But then last week. And for only a week it came back. And now it's gone again. Do you know if that's something that's paid? Or did I toggle something on and off by accident?
Let me provide some context. I was in Buffalo a few days ago for a ball game and wanted to return to my home in Niagara Falls, Canada, via the U.S. and the Rainbow Bridge. My Forester navigation insisted I return home through the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, even after we were half way home through the U.S. It wanted us to turn around and head back to Buffalo. What I wanted to do was eliminate the QEW as a highway on the return journey. So much thanks for your quick responses.
My display only allows me to search for points of interest, there is no address search which is really pissing me off. Any reason why the address is not showing up??
I really dislike the TomTom system in my 2021 Outback!!!!!I have put in information 5 times for Visions Veterans Arena in Binghamton, NY and it does not save it. The video did not talk about using the "whole" map. I clicked on Whole Map and entered info again nothing! I was sitting in my garage with the car in park. This is probably the 30th time, the system does not seem to respond since I bought the vehicle.
My issue with the map is that it does not give voice navigation. It is clearly unsafe to have to keep looking at the map on the screen when one’s eyes should be on the road. Or am I missing something?
I have a 2022 Legacy with what looks like the exact same navigation system. I would guess that you have the voice navigation turned off in the menu. I had to turn mine on at one time, when it wasn't working. Might have accidentally turned it off. While in the navigation system, press menu, then the speaker icon at the bottom right corner. That should toggle it on and off. Or, you have the volume nob turned down that you can't hear it.
You misunderstood my question. I know how to cancel and then start again. But the route is always the same. I want to avoid that highway and try that one. ...
Aside from just taking the different path during the trip, the only way that comes to mind is adjusting the route settings. Changing to most economical, etc. I will check more into this next week and get back to you.
I have a new 2023 Outback. The navigation system works in that it shows me where to go on the map and with written commands that temporarily show just above the steering wheel, but there are no voice commands at all. My mute button is not on, in that the radio and music from my phone through carplay work fine. Any ideas on how I can get the voice command on navigation to work?
Just bought a new 2023 cross trek, limited with navigation. It doesn’t have the icon at all. I don’t think the dealership set it up correctly. Any suggestions?
@@MrGKELLY92 if there is no MAPS icon, you did not get one with the NAV package. Get me the last 8 of the VIN, and I can tell you for sure if it should have it or not.
The easiest way is to just hit menu, cancel route, and then add a new route. Tou can also do it vocally with the Navigation command, and then change destination.

Useful info, now I can enter and actual address using the Search button.

Will it let you enter GPS coordinates?

Thank you, that was handy for me for my new 2023 WRX 👍 Au

Mine doesn’t talk though
Nice video! Tom Tom seems to need full addresses. Can it also search by just city name?

You have to turn the volume up. Setting>Sound>and then an option referring to the navigation voice. I can't remember what it is right of hand.
Assuming it will speak like a Garmin when to turn/exit?
Yes. It certainly does. As long as your volume isn't muted!
What if you have no formal address, but instead GPS coordinates? A friend texted me a camping spot.
Depends on the year of the car. The 2023 model Outback has My Three Words. It breaks down every spot by 3x3 foot squares.
I’ve got a rental and it’s not showing a map option
Not all are equipped with navigation. It does have android auto and Apple carplay, though.

Voice commands won't work if you have apple carplay active.
@@howtosubaru Thanks, how do I inactivae apple carplay? Do I just hit the button for bluetooth instead?
@paulepstein1668 you have to turn off the wireless carplay option in the radio settings.
@@howtosubaru OK thanks
Do i need the concierge to use the navigation?
Not at all!
@@howtosubaru Awesome! Thanks!
My 2020 outback dosent have a maps icon

Only 3 packages have Navigation. Premium 15 package. Limited with Navigation, and touring.

What does yours look like?
Can I enter a name of a store like BJs if I don’t have an address?
In most cases, yes.

Seriously a 2019 doesn't have this built in navigation. Absolutely horseshit.
Incomplete. Voice commands while driving don’t work well
