    ▬ ABOUT THIS VIDEO ▬
    GoodBed's unboxing, setup, and initial smell test of the Purple Mattress.
    This video shows you how to open and set up your Purple mattress, and what to expect when it arrives, including our assessment of any initial chemical smells or off-gassing when first unwrapped. The Purple Mattress is compressed, vacuum-packed, and rolled up so that it can be delivered to you via FedEx in a sturdy plastic bag about the size of a large golf bag. From there, you'll need to bring it to your bedroom and unbox it (or in this case, "unbag" it).

    Very interesting platform design with the corner supports. Never seen that before.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Lori -- Thanks for your comment. Yes, those corner guards are there because it's an adjustable base (ie, one that allows the head and foot of the mattress to be elevated). All adjustable bases need a way of preventing the mattress from sliding from head to foot when it is elevated. Most of them achieve this through either a retainer bar at the foot of the bed or through corner guards as shown on the base in this video. I hope that helps.

    I have a purple office seat cushion that I use on my very uncomfortable motorcycle seat. It actually made my motorcycle seat comfortable enough to ride all day with that purple seat cushion on it.
    that being said, I prefer a firm mattress. How firm is the purple mattress? My purple office seat cushion that I have on my motorcycle would be much too soft for my liking on a mattress..
    Also, we have a queen size mattress. Do they make a queen size? And will are expensive bamboo sheets fit the queen size purple mattress?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jody -- Thanks for your questions. I have the Purple seat cushion too. It's a bit hard to equate the experience of sitting on the seat cushion to lying on the mattress. Overall, the Purple original mattress is a Medium feel on our softness spectrum. Much more info on that front in the video and written coverage here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/purple-mattress-review/
      They definitely make it in a queen size, and I can't see any reason why your queen size sheets wouldn't fit it just fine. FWIW, with this particular mattress, we do recommend using sheets that have a bit of stretch, but that's only to maximize the benefits of the mattress, so it's not a problem to use sheets that don't stretch.
      I hope that's helpful.

    I bought one and gel doesnt go all the way to the sides is mine messed up? Or will it work its way out to the sides? Please answer if anyone knows

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jason -- Thanks for your question. The Purple 4 has a perimeter of firmer foam going around the outside of the gel columns in order to provide increased edge support. You can see how it should look in our review of the Purple 4 here:
      th-cam.com/video/vijvjeU9_Sw/w-d-xo.html
      If it looks materially different than ours, then something is probably not right. Unfortunately though, since you bought it in the grey market (as you noted in your other comment), I don't believe you'd have any recourse in that case anyway, other than perhaps from the individual who sold it to you.
      I hope that's helpful.

      @@goodbed i understand it was packaged as it should be so im pretty confident at that price cant go to wrong. It look like maybe the gel is 3 inches shorter then the actual mattress. It hasnt fully expanded yet either. Been out of the package for 3 hours

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, that's hard to visualize but sounds weird. The mattress we reviewed in the link I sent above looked like it did in the review from just about the first minute we received it. Ours was never compressed for shipping and AFAIK the Purple 4 still does not get compressed and rolled for shipping the way the Original Purple does.
      I hope that's helpful.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. By the time we did our full review of the mattress, whatever smell I was able to detect from a couple feet away from the mattress had certainly dissipated. There was still a small amount of smell that was perceptible if you were to put your nose up to the mattress, but no moreso than what is typical amongst other mattresses we've tested. FYI, you can see our full review of the mattress here:

      It has a terrible toxic chemical smell. It surprises me that others don't notice this. It does fade over time, but never goes away completely. This is not suitable for humans! I am not being funny. I had to return mine because of the smell, and it's a very hard bed which wasn't for me either.

      @@initiate22000 we just got one and it had no more of a smell than a normal spring mattress and way less then our memory foam we bought for our camper! I hate you didn’t like yours but I’m rather pleased so far.

  • @initiate22000
    @initiate22000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought and returned this mattress. The 2 inch top layer is soft, but the foam beneath was much too firm for me. But much worse was the smell! I couldn't even use it for almost a month. Terrible off gassing! It gave me a headache and is truly toxic. The chemical smell never left but did become less intense after a month. The website says it's not toxic, but that is clearly a lie. It's very toxic! I bought a natural latex mattress instead and feel a lot better in every way. The Purple mattress is a poorly made mattress that isn't worth the money.

      @initiate22000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nomadwcd8877 Yes, but the nausea and headaches and wanting to vomit do give a clue that it is toxic. Plus, who would want to use something that stinks? I have since bought a wonderful all latex mattress. It has a subtle and sweet, pleasant smell that I love. It's also much more comfortable.

      @@goodbed I appreciate your video greatly. I have that same mattress in its packaging sitting in the hallway. I spent several hours yesterday assembling my new bed frame. I want to know the best way to unroll the heavy mattress and how long to leave it sitting there without the mattress protector and sheets. That is the only piece of information you could have added. Overall a good video. Richardson is a troll, IMHO.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tastybrownie7448 Thanks for your kind words. I would suggest that the best way to unroll it is similar to what we did in the video. The biggest keys are:
      1) move it into your bedroom (and ideally onto your bed) before opening it -- it's pretty heavy and once it's open becomes rather floppy, so it will generally be easier to move while it's still tightly wrapped
      2) be careful not to cut the mattress cover when removing the plastic -- I'd recommend using the tool they provide (you can see it at 2:17 in the video) and just taking your time
      In terms of how long to leave it sitting there without the protector and sheets, I assume this question is about off-gassing. If so, I would recommend using your judgement based on what you experience when you open it. If you notice a significant amount of off-gassing and/or are particularly sensitive to that sort of thing, then I'd recommend giving it some time in a room by itself with the windows open before you make the bed. You could allow anywhere from 2 to 48 hours for that, but there will certainly be diminishing returns at some point. You may want to walk on it a bit before you do that as well, just to give the foam more chances to release whatever initial off-gassing it has in it. Neither your sheets nor your protector are going to be air tight, so to one degree or another the mattress will continue to off-gas with or without them.
      I hope that's helpful.
