    Thank you to yourself and your team for all the hard work you guys do to inform the public. I have seen a few videos regarding mostly bed in box /online bed(s) and I was wondering which bed would you recommend for a person whom is 270lb with back issues and have had back surgery. Almost all of the videos I have seen with your reviews the beds are medium rating for firmnist. So again what would you recommend for a firm bed ?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Avi -- Thanks for your question and your kind words. The first thing I'd recommend is taking our Match Quiz, which is the best starting point for any mattress shopper. It works by asking you all the relevant questions to fully assess your requirements (including some factors that might actually be important to you but would not have otherwise thought to consider), and then using an intelligent matching algorithm that searches across all brands and stores (both online and in your local area) to find ones that match your unique needs and preferences. If you haven't taken it yet, you can find it here:
      www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/
      Beyond that, here are some options that we've covered that I think tend to be a good match for heavier sleepers:
      * Extended Life: www.goodbed.com/mattress-line/king-koil-world-extended-life/ -- Designed for plus-size sleepers with a range of softness levels (ranging from Extra Firm to Medium) but only available in Southern California AFAIK. If you happen to be in that area it's certainly something to consider.
      * WinkBed Plus: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/winkbed-plus/ -- Explicitly designed for plus-size sleepers. Although we haven't done an in-depth review of the Plus model, we have reviewed their standard model and also seen the Plus first-hand so can attest to its suitability for someone of your weight.
      * Sapira: www.goodbed.com/mattresses/sapira/ -- Not explicitly designed for plus-size sleepers, but we do think it's construction would tend to match up well for someone of your size.
      * Helix Nightfall: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/helix-nightfall/ -- New model that is supposedly designed for plus-size sleepers. Although we haven't done an in-depth review of it yet, we are familiar with the components they used so can attest to those.
      I hope that's helpful.

    My 10-year old TempurPedic has "potholes" all over it from age. Can't wait to get rid of it soon for my Purple. I'm sitting on my Royal Purple seat cushion at work and love how it feels.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steven -- Thanks for your comment. I'm glad to hear that you're liking the Purple seat cushion. That's a good preview of the how the hyper-elastic polymer grid works, so I do think it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect in the mattress. I hope it turns out to be a great match for you.
      Re: your Tempur-Pedic, I'm sorry to hear that it's in such rough shape at this point -- Tempur-Pedic's usually hold up better than that.

    Been going through your videos and looking for your opinion on best mattress for side sleepers with pain in the shoulder and hip area. In this video you did touch on my needs saying memory foam or latex on the top layer would be best, and i agree. Which mattress are best for side sleepers with pain issues? Thank you, love your analysis, you make sense!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kim -- Thanks for your question and kind words (and sorry I missed this earlier). The good news is that there are many mattresses that can deliver great pressure relief for side sleepers! However, in order to narrow in on the options that would best meet your other needs and preferences, I would really need some more information about you. To this end, have you tried taking the match quiz on our website yet? We actually created it for exactly this purpose so I'd highly recommend it as a starting point for your search. You can find it here:
      www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
      The quiz works by asking you all the relevant questions to fully assess your requirements and then uses an intelligent matching algorithm to search across all available products (both online and in stores near you) to find ones that match your specific needs and preferences. We based it on all of the expertise we have developed over the past 10 years of doing this, as well as feedback from nearly a quarter million ratings that have been provided by real mattress owners over that time. If you have any more specific questions though after taking it, I'm always happy to help.

    Love your videos. I bought a Classic Adjustable bed frame thanks to you and am getting a Purple original mattress but not bought it yet, am so hoping I am making the right choices. I have looked and looked on line and compared until I am 'purple'! Am a side sleeper but am 99% of the time in my bed due to a broken back and not able to sit stand or walk much anymore. In 5 yrs my expensive pillow top Serta is non flip is a mess with a permanent pot hole in it. I fell and broke my back a couple of weeks after I purchased it. Needless to say am not wanting to invest in a mattress of that nature again. I sleep on my side and am on it basically 24/7 hrs a day everyday propped up on pillows WITH a pillow under my hip in the pothole working on my pc and doing stuff. If you have a better solution or advice for me would love to hear it! Thanks for all your videos you share. I am so uncomfortable! Would love to try the Purple 4 but am not spending that much money and wonder why they were so against coils originally but now they double their price and use them... hmm. PS am a heavy weight

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Patty -- Thank you for your question. I would love to help but am afraid this is a tough one for me to answer with confidence because it's a bit hard for me to envision the situation you are describing in terms of how you are using the mattress or what your specific requirements would be from a pressure relief and spinal alignment standpoint in light of your specific injury and the amount of time you spend in bed.
      Given your unique situation, the one point I would make is that you would benefit greatly from a generous return policy, such as the ones offered by many of the online mattress companies (Purple included). This would give you a chance to try the mattress in your home for 3 months or so, which should be enough time to figure out if it works for your unique needs. In your case I probably wouldn't recommend buying a mattress that didn't have such a policy.
      I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this one.

      Purple is now in more stores, so it's possible to check one out before you buy it. You can check their profile page on GoodBed for a list of nearby stores where they are available. In some cases, such as at Denver Mattress, there is even a way to save an extra $50 on top of any discounts you get from the store:

      no one should ever spend over 500 dollars on a mattress, there are so many other options that are better for cheaper. The materials used in that cost them less than 200 bucks lol. You could literally buy a gel topper on a 200 dollar memory foam and get very similar results.

    • @sparrowhawk5673
      @sparrowhawk5673 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      eking11 , well i got the Nectar mattress for less than $500 and has worked out for me. Yet i do wonder if the purple bed had better quality. But your right it would of cost me near $1000 if i would of gotten the same bed by Purple. An Nectar has a better return policy.

    The truth of Purple (i own purple 3) is that it is firm. Absolutely does NOT relieve pressure points for side sleepers. Its bouncy and feels kinda cool for back sleeping but not for side sleeping

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question and kind words (and sorry I missed this earlier). Yes, there are 3 new Purple models -- the Purple 2, Purple 3, and Purple 4 -- all of which use pocketed coils. We actually just wrapped up filming of our review of the Purple 4 (which also discusses the Purple 2 and Purple 3), so I expect that review will be published in the next week or two. Currently in the trial period for this mattress and I hate to say that so far my wife and I hate it. It is decently comfortable if you stay on your back but if you tend to side sleep at all, it is a 2 out of 10. Both my wife and I have developed shoulder and hip pain while using it and I mainly sleep on my back. We are giving it time in hopes we will adjust to it but so far that doesn't look like it will happen.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your comment, and indeed you are right of course. FWIW, as part of our desire to keep things simple and straightforward for the average consumer, we are occasionally guilty of using more familiar terminology when it's available and not misleading. This would be one such example where even those who know the difference such as yourself were still able to follow what we were saying.
      I hope that's helpful.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there -- Thank you for your kind words. Re: your question, I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean about not having your size. FYI, this model is sold in these 5 sizes: TwinXL (same width as a standard twin, just 5 inches longer), Full, Queen, King, and Cal King.
      If you are locked into needing a standard Twin size, then I'm afraid you are correct that you are out of luck in this case. In terms of recommendations for alternatives, the best starting point IMHO is to take our mattress match quiz, which will first assess your needs and preferences and then will use an intelligent algorithm to search across brands and stores (both online and offline) to show you the options that best match your requirements. If you haven't taken this quiz yet, you can find it here:

    I just seen your review on the Nectar mattress. are you going to do a scoring review on all the mattress reviewed? quality, price, how long the trail etc etc.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. We do provide "scoring" of sorts with regards to our assessments of specific characteristics of a mattress, however we do not compile these scores into a singular score for a given mattress. While this is something that is commonly done by Consumer Reports as well as other reviewers, it reflects a fundamental lack of understanding of the personal and subjective nature of this particular product. Simply put, while you and I probably want roughly the same thing out of our toasters or our dishwashers, we most likely want (and need) something completely different out of our mattresses. This means that a mattress that should legitimately deserve 5 stars for me could very legitimately deserve 1 star from you. As such, no real mattress expert would ever give a mattress a singular universal score.
      That said, what *can* be done is to give each mattress an overall score that is specific to *your* unique needs and preferences -- so that is what we provide instead. Once you take the match quiz on our website (www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/), you will see match scores that are specific to you everywhere you go on our site. You can even see your specific match scores for over 1,000 mattresses available online in a single list that can be sorted by match score and filtered by type, price, available discounts, free delivery, etc.

    Hi there. Great reviews on mattresses. I must have watched them all. Suffering from a sagging memory foam mattress in a box that's causing cramps and all kinds of stuff. I'm 5'8, 180 lbs and fairly athletic build. I sleep with my feet elevated by about 10 inches (on a wedge). Given the angle of the pressure, I seem to be going through these memory foam mattresses in under a year. How supportive would the mattress be for my case? Thank you.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +zveryok1 -- Thanks for your question and sorry I missed this earlier. This is a bit of a tough one for me to answer since I didn't try using the mattress in this way. Is the short side of your wedge under your feet or under your knees? If the latter, I'd worry that this is going to contribute to back pain by flattening out your lumbar curve while you sleep. But I guess on that front, Purple might be a good solution for you since in my case (which is specific to my weight and body shape) it probably provided the most lumbar support in the back position of any mattress I've tested. I hope that's helpful.

    • @zveryok1
      @zveryok1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GoodBed it's more of my glutes tightening over time if I sleep with my legs extended out. If I have my knees at least somewhat bent, it really helps the issue. Decided to try the Zenhaven. Firm side was way too firm for me. I felt being catapulted out of it ☺ plush side might be just a tad too soft if I raise my legs on the wedge.

    I noticed your feet are hainging off the bed with the adjustable mattress. Would this be comfortable for someone who is 6'2?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Laura -- Thanks for your question. The main reason my feet are hanging off the bed in that segment is actually because I'm wearing shoes, so I was keeping them off the bed by force of habit. :)
      The bed I am on in the video is a Queen size, which is 80" long. At my height (6'0"), I can still sit on that mattress comfortably in an upright position without my feet hanging off the bed. That said, this would be less likely for a person who is 6'2" (and even for some people my size who have longer legs than mine) -- in which case they would prefer a larger size. Almost all mattresses (including this one) come in a California King size, which is 84" long (4 inches longer than a Queen). This size would definitely be OK for someone that is 6'2", even on an adjustable base, so that would be my recommendation.
      If the taller person is willing to sleep on a bit of an angle when fully stretched out, you can also consider an ordinary King size, which is the same length as a Queen (80") but is 16" wider (a total of 76" wide) -- however, this solution isn't as ideal for the adjustable base scenario since being on angle when the base is elevated is a bit awkward.
      I hope that helps.

    Excellent review of both the Purple and Lull mattresses. I am really torn between the two. I am 6 ft and 210 pounds and my girlfriend is 5 ft 6 inches and 135 pounds. We are both in our fifties so we each have some aches and pains. We both sleep on our sides 80% and backs 20%. I like the concept of less motion transfer in the memory foam mattress as well as perhaps a better solution for side sleepers with the Lull. The Purple seems to be better for back sleepers and would be better for sex due to the bounciness compared to the Lull. Also, I prefer something that will minimize the disturbance to her if I get up in the middle of the night. I could order one of each and return one, but I prefer not to do that. So based on our weights, age, and predominately side sleepers would you recommend the Lull, Purple, or even a different mattress? Thanks :)

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, happy to help. Overall, I do think you're thinking about this the right way. Just a few points about some of the considerations you raised:
      * Side sleeping: I suppose you've already watched the Back Support & Pressure Relief section of each video to come to your conclusion, but in general I'm not sure that either of these are clearly better than the other for side sleepers. The Purple does have some unique attributes that can work really well for side sleepers, so depending on your and your girlfriend's specific needs / preferences, there is certainly a chance that it could be the better option on this front.
      * Motion Isolation: It's true that Purple is probably not quite as good on this front, but I'm not sure there's enough of a difference on this front to be the primary basis for your decision.
      * Bounciness: Definitely more surface bounce with the Purple, which can be relevant on the amorous activity front as you pointed out. Neither mattress has much of what we call "deep bounce."
      I hope that's helpful to making your decision.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pleasure Joe. So first off, at that weight you probably don't need a mattress made especially for heavier people, though it wouldn't hurt and would probably last longer. That said, I do think it's good for you to rule out mattresses that have a foam core that is less than 2.0 lbs density or that have softer pocketed coils for support. For comfort layers, latex is a very durable material, so that is a good one to consider.
      In terms of specific recommendations, I don't have enough information about your other preferences and requirements to narrow the universe down to specific options -- there are simply too many that would meet the criteria I described above and I would need other info from you to know which ones to prioritize. Have you tried taking the match quiz on our site? If not, this is a very helpful resource that can help get you pointed in the right general direction. Seeing your results would also allow me to get more specific with my advice, so feel free to paste your results back here if you'd like. Here's the link to where you can take the quiz:

    For some one that has a bad lower back and gets alot of headache wich one u recommend ghost mattress or purple mattress?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steven -- Thanks for your question. I'm happy to help but am afraid that this is an impossible question for anyone to answer.
      Starting with your headaches, if you have a condition whereby headaches are triggered by some specific characteristic that can be found in a mattress, I'd certainly need to know more about this in order to answer this question -- specifically, I'd need to know what triggers these headaches. Even then, it sounds like this question might be better-suited for your doctor. That said, this also sounds like something that could very well be completely unrelated to and unaffected by your mattress. The bottom line is that absent any specific condition you may have to the contrary, I wouldn't expect either of those mattresses to cause or contribute to headaches.
      In terms of your bad lower back, there are a number of possible reasons for this as well. If it's a slipped disc, for example, that points to an acute need for pressure relief. But for most people, the best mattress-related answer for a "bad lower back" is better spinal alignment. In the case of the latter, neither the Purple nor the GhostBed will be better for everyone, since spinal alignment is a matter of "fit" between you and the mattress. That's why we talk so much in our reviews about which types of sleepers will get the best back support (spinal alignment) and pressure relief from that mattress -- so you can determine whether that mattress is right for you.
      I'm sorry I can't provide a more specific answer on this one, but I hope that explanation is helpful nonetheless.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I didn't see this earlier. I would love to help but I really need some more information about you to narrow in on specific options. To this end, have you tried taking the match quiz on our site yet? We created it for exactly this purpose so I'd highly recommend it as a starting point for your search. You can find it here:

      The quiz works by asking you all the relevant questions to fully assess your requirements (including some factors that might actually be important to you but would not have otherwise thought to consider), and then uses an intelligent matching algorithm that searches across available products to find ones that match your unique needs and preferences. Of course, if you still have questions after taking it, I'm always happy to help.

    What mattress do you recommend for a side sleeper who sleeps hot and likes a softer mattress? I am 6'1 and 220lbs. I want a king size. Thanks!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi +IDWIE -- Thanks for your question. To start with the Purple, since I presume that's one you're considering, I do think that would meet the criteria you outlined. We characterize it as a Medium softness level overall, but as described in the video, it feels softer the heavier you are and also feels a bit softer for side sleepers, so for you it may feel more like a Medium-Soft.
      In terms of other recommendations, in order to narrow down the many good options out there, we typically would consider a number of other personal criteria beyond the ones you mentioned. For this, I'd recommend taking the Match Quiz on our site, which you can find here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
      The quiz can search across a much wider range of options than I (or anyone) can do in their head and will show your 3 top online matches as well as the 3 top matches from what is available in your local stores. If you want to see more than your top 3 matches, there is a button you can click for that. You can also click on any of your match scores to see how we calculated them.

    Hi Mike, can you tell me in your opinion, what mattress will most closely resemble the feel of a waterbed? I have slept on a waterbed for most of my adult life and am currently sleeping on the couch while searching for the perfect mattress for me to try... im a side and sometimes stomach sleeper. Im about 5 foot 5 and 150 pounds... im looking for total pressure relief and hate sinking too far into a bed? What do you think about the Purple 4 or a latex mattress? Would either of those give me a similar feel as a waterbed? Thanks for any help you can give

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Coleen -- Thanks for your question. Have you ruled out getting another waterbed? Not sure if you're aware, but while they are certainly far less common nowadays, they are still available.
      In terms of other types of mattresses with a similar "feel," I'm afraid the answer is there really aren't any. Water displaces in such a unique way and also has a particularly float-y sensation that is accentuated but the fact that it continues to move even after you stop moving -- certainly no other mattress materials have these same qualities. It might be tempting to say air beds, since they are another type of mattress that utilizes a "bladder" (filled with air rather than water). However, air bladders need to be filled quite full in order to be effective, which prevents them from offering nearly as much pressure relief as a waterbed (or even other types of mattresses).
      I guess if I were forced to pick something, I might say the Purple.4 would be the closest in terms of the signature characteristics I mentioned above. The gel columns in that model are 4" tall -- twice as tall as the gel columns in the Original Purple shown in this video -- which does give it some very unique characteristics. Mind you, I would not otherwise describe it as similar to a waterbed, but I do think it mimics some of those sensations. I would certainly recommend watching our video review of it to get a more clear sense of how it performs and how it might compare to your favorite aspects of a waterbed. If you haven't already seen it, you can find that video here:

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi +moseyo tam -- Thanks for your comment. You are spot-on and that is a perfect example of why we do these videos. Everyone has different needs and preferences when it comes to their mattress -- in some cases, very different. As such, no mattress can be perfect for everyone (not even close). So, our objective in these reviews is to describe the characteristics of each given mattress in order to help you determine whether it's really right for you before making your purchase.
      As an aside, your comment also illustrates the reason that we never give mattresses a star rating -- because a mattress that's 5 stars for you could justifiably be 1 star for someone else. So, any mattress "expert" that gives out star ratings has, in doing so, exposed themselves as not having enough expertise to understand this basic point about mattresses.
      I hope that helps.

      Hi +ajbfwb -- Thanks for your question. It's hard to say with certainty, and the answer will also depend on a few different factors like your sleep position, pressure relief needs, etc. That said, I would generally guess that 250 lbs or more is where some of the issues I described *could* start to be present, and at 300 lbs or more I'd guess that one or more of those issues would likely be present. I hope that helps.

    I have watched sooooo many mattress reviews it’s ridiculous. I’m so frustrated right now, tired of waking up with a headache and back pain every morning. Two days ago, we threw our old bed out. I’m sleeping on the couch. My husband sleeps on the floor and we’re soooo frustrated.
    He’s about 260 pounds I’m 140. He’s a side sleeper... I’m all over the place. In your honest opinion, this mattress will work for us?
    Our “old” bed isn’t even five years old yet. And we spent over 1000$ on it. It sags sooooo bad on his side and I had to put a board under mine for more support this past year and it still didn’t help.
    We need a mattress that works for both of us. Both our weights.

      Hi Marc -- Thanks for your question. Now that you ask it, I'm actually surprised more people haven't asked this same question. The answer is that if you run your hand over the top of the mattress, you can feel the ridges of the grid a little bit (particularly if you know to be feeling for it). But in terms of your body laying on the mattress, I didn't perceive the gridlines at all, either consciously or subconsciously, and I really doubt anyone would.

      Hi Randy -- Thanks for your question, and stayed tuned to this channel for a detailed discussion of that. We wrapped our review of the Purple 4 (in which we also discuss the Purple 2 and 3) last week. It is currently being edited so is most likely due out next week. Once it's available, you'll be able to find it on our site here:

      Hi Randy -- Thanks again for your original question about the new Purple 2/3/4 mattresses. FYI, I just wanted to let you know that our full review of the Purple 4 mattress (which also covers the Purple 2 and 3 where they differ from the Purple 4) is now available. I hope you'll find that it addresses your question about which types of sleepers would benefit most from which of these new models. You can check it out here:

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Adam -- Thanks for your question (and sorry I missed this earlier). I actually think that you would be amongst the type of people that would benefit most from the new Purple 4 mattress. It's significantly more expensive than the Original Purple that we covered in this video, but as you'll hear in our review of it (which we will be publishing in the next couple weeks), we felt that side sleepers who are heavier and/or curvier (which includes broad shoulders) would benefit the most from the extra investment. Seems that you are right in the middle of the strike zone there.

    My husband is only 110 but is really interested in purple he has bad back and arthritis in shoulder and lower back. Hes a back sleeper. He's 5'4.
    I'm 132 5'6"
    And have lower back pain.
    He wants purple. I saw a cooling gel bed by I think classic beds? 14" I'm interested in because the full size is half or less than half of purple.
    He's light and a back sleeper. Needs softer. Since he's so small will it be too firm? He is not a fan of too firm
    I'm not a fan of too hot so we don't want any at all that sleep hot
    Could you recommend a mattress based on more information?
    We want medium firm
    I sleep side
    He sleeps back
    I sleep hot. Hate to sweat it gives me panic attacks.
    He doesn't sleep hot but he doesn't want to be hot just warm enough to stay asleep..
    He has neck stress, arthritis in shoulder and back from car accident and bad legs.
    He snores and seems to have some apnea
    I have minor lower back pain and narcolepsy.
    We are looking for a decent mattress. I will be up to 150 by August. (Pregnant)
    If not purple
    What? Tia

      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rita -- Thanks for your question, and I'm sorry I missed it previously. Have you tried taking the match quiz on our website to narrow in on specific options? We actually created it for exactly this purpose -- and built it based on all of the expertise we have developed over the past 10 years of doing this (as well as feedback from nearly a quarter million ratings that have been provided by real mattress owners over that time).
      The quiz works by asking you all the relevant questions to assess your needs and then uses an intelligent matching algorithm to search across all available products (both online and in stores near you) to find ones that match your specific needs and preferences. After you've taken the quiz, whether or not the Purple happens to be amongst the top matches shown in your results, you'll be able to go to the profile page for the Purple mattress on GoodBed to see your personal match score for this product as well as an explanation of how we calculated it.
      www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/the-purple-bed/
      Overall, I'd highly recommend taking this quiz as a starting point for your search. If you have any more specific questions though after taking it, I'm always happy to help.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Given those dimensions, I'm guessing your body doesn't have a whole lot of curves, but I'd certainly expect that the buckling in your case would still be effective for supporting the curve in your lumbar area when lying on your back.

    I am 130lbs and do enjoy a firmer bed, where I don't sink into it too much. I also am a back sleeper and was wondering based off of what I said would this be a good fit?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi +Active Universe -- Thanks for your question. As a 130 lb back sleeper, my expectation is that you'd still get very good back support and spinal alignment on this mattress, in spite of being on the lighter end of the weight range I described. And because you're lighter, I do think the mattress will feel a bit firmer than Medium for you, which it sounds like you would enjoy. In terms of not wanting to sink in too much, I don't think you'll find that to be a problem at your weight. So overall, it does sound to me like this mattress is a good fit for the criteria you provided. I hope that helps.

I’m not super curvy but I can imagine if I were I would also experience hip pain as well. I am extremely disappointed that I paid over $1,000 dollars on this bed and woke up in pain every day. I am planning on calling purple tomorrow and asking to return it. I can no longer wait to the “adjusting period” they claim to wait till before returning. I really wanted to love this bed because of all the great reviews out there. Bed is extremely firm, maybe would be good if you like that or if you mostly spend most of your time sleeping on your back and stomach.

      Hi +ProficientWarrior -- Thanks for this question as well. In terms of your weight, I certainly think that you fall within the range of weights that can be well-served by this mattress. So based on that single criteria alone, I would say yes it could work well for you.
      That said, in assessing someone's overall fit for a given mattress, we'd normally take into account a number of other criteria as well. To that end, I'd recommend you 1) take the Match Quiz on our site (www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/), and then 2) go to this page: www.goodbed.com/mattress-model/the-purple-bed/

    I really wish you would've tested the VOC's with an official device as Purple claims to have none and makes a big deal about it on their site. Additionally, I wish you had addressed the white powder inside the mattress. I've purchased 2 foam mattresses in the last 2 months from different companies- both certi-pur- and I had to return both because I was so severely allergic to the VOC's and chemicals gassing off the mattresses. Certi-pur does not mean the mattress is non toxic and doesn't meant it doesn't contain harmful chemicals. It just means the said VOC's are at a lower level but still present nonetheless.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi K N -- Thanks for your comment. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with this mattress, and am also sorry (though TBH not surprised) to hear that you didn't get a clear explanation on this point from the company's website. I'm afraid all mattress manufacturers are prone to making claims using jargon that is hard for consumers to translate into plain English. This is one of the reasons we always recommend that people watch or read our review of a product before buying it, in order to avoid such surprises.
      You are absolutely correct about what Certi-PUR means, and your explanation is actually consistent with how we explain it in the video. As we state in the section at 27:42, Certi-PUR covers both the presence and off-gassing of various harmful chemicals and certifies that neither are present beyond some minimally acceptable threshold. Of course, these are polyurethane (petroleum-based) foams, so that threshold is not 0 and therefore may not be acceptable for people who have particularly acute sensitivities to such things.
      As it relates to the white powder, I have actually addressed this in a number of other comments here, both in terms of what we know about it and what we experienced with it. The short answer is that while we did make sure the full extent of the white powder was visible in our close-ups of the hyper-elastic polymer layer, any discussion of its molecular make-up or safety is well outside my area of expertise. That said, with all the competitors that have swarmed this topic over the past 2 years, the group I would trust most to objectively assess this would be the CPSC. I feel very confident that have been well aware of this question, especially given the massive amount of attention it generated at the time it was first raised, and AFAIK they have never issued any warnings about its safety.
      I hope that's helpful.

      Hi Hannah -- Thanks for your comment. Beyond what we describe in the video, for more detail on which types of sleepers we consider the best match for this particular mattress, you can find the most comprehensive assessment in our written review of this mattress here:
      www.goodbed.com/reviews/purple-mattress-review/
      As a separate point, it's really important to understand that Purple isn't the only bed that is "for a select demographic" -- EVERY bed is for a select demographic, despite the fact that every mattress brand would love for you to believe otherwise... Put differently, no bed is good for everyone, and finding the right bed for you will depend on finding one that has the Fit, Feel, and Features (GoodBed's 3 F's) that match your needs, preferences, and priorities. • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. TBH both this question and the answer from +Milly feel a little suspicious to me, so if I get any more of a vibe that comments are coming from company representatives (whether from Purple competitors or Purple themselves) posing as consumers, I'll probably remove the comment altogether. Nonetheless, I actually answered this same question for another viewer previously, so here is the answer:
      As you can see in our video, there definitely is some powder in there, which we know is designed to keep the gel columns from sticking to each other. The gel in the samples they provided definitely sticks to itself when you squeeze it, whereas the gel in the mattress does not stick to itself at all, so it rebounds instantaneously to its original shape. So from that respect, the powder is clearly there to serve an important function, and it serves that function well.
      As for the safety of the powder, that goes well beyond our area of expertise, so we simply have nothing useful to add on that. I do believe that the viral video on this topic has gotten enough attention that this is almost certainly on the CPSC's radar -- and personally I would certainly trust their assessment over any other assessments floating around out there. The only thing I can say is that we saw no sign of any powder coming out of the mattress (even after cutting open the fire sock as we did).

    • @justinnemesis1
      @justinnemesis1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just get the sample and you will understand. The gel polymer would need to be dusted with talc powder so the honeycomb walls don't stick together or squeak. • @goodbed
      @goodbed  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +DJR5280 -- Thanks for your question. If you've narrowed your options to Purple and GhostBed, then based on the information you provided, I would lean toward GhostBed in your case. First, you will certainly get more of that "memory feel" you like on the GhostBed (which has some, though not a ton) than you will on the Purple (which has none). Even more importantly though, I would worry that at your weight, the Purple might not be able to provide you with adequate spinal alignment and pressure relief. Lastly, while both of these mattresses have 2.0 lb density foam cores (which is important for heavier sleepers), Purple's core is underneath a soft 3.5" layer of 1.8 lb density foam, which I don't think would fare as well under your weight as the latex and memory foam at the top of the GhostBed. I hope that helps.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi D K -- Thanks for your question. We prioritize our reviews based on interest from our users, and Nectar is a relative newcomer on the scene. However, the good news is that we've gotten enough interest in this brand that it's been moved up to our near-term list at this point. You can subscribe to our channel to be notified when it comes out.
      That said, please know that your characterization of it as being "the top rated" is a complete misnomer. First and foremost, *no* mattress is "the top rated" for everyone because no mattress is even *good* for everyone, let alone the best. Second, there are a ton of mattress "review" websites that do nothing more than promote the brands that pay them the highest affiliate fees. These sites are the digital equivalent of the sleazy mattress salesman, and they universally love Nectar... Note that I don't fault Nectar for this as they can hardly be expected to discourage anyone from promoting their brand. However, you should know that the endorsements from these sites are fundamentally meaningless.
