Living in the housing complex you probably dont have space to garden but you might be able to grow some herbs in the window. I live in an apartment too and I dont garden but there are many ways to be frugal. I am 65 now. My parents would be so proud of me! They lived through the Great Depression, World War 2 and they knew how to do things well while squeezing pennies till they screamed.😀

Tess my mama used to make a small amount of wine out of those grapes. It was made for upset stomach. I'm sure you can find the recipe in an Amish book, it also helps reduce fever.

I have been trying for years to grow and can up food. Last year I was able to step into it with both feet. My mother canned some. My grandmother showed me some things. At a early age I would go to grandma's Friday night or Saturday a.m. Went to church went back to grandma's and got ready for Sunday dinner. Saturday we would do the wash, my job was to hang them outside and bring them in for gram to fold. She would have the next basket ready to go out to be hung. Then we would make a cake usually a two egg yellow cake from scratch. Homemade spaghetti sauce cooked overnight. She taught me to make homemade raviolis. Easter and Christmas was the ravioli. She taught me more on cooking than my real mother. She was so special. She raised 10 kids. We would go grocery shopping every saturday also. She had me take all the leaves off the celery to dry them. It was a way of saving money and with all the family in a pinch it added celery to sauce and soups. The good old days.

Last year we sold the big farm moved to a smaller place with way less garden space but I’ve been enjoying it so much more. It was way too hard once we hit 50s to keep up without kids or equipment. Everything was by hand ..😢

We had quite a storm here in Ohio last night too, Tessie. But it was actually kind of welcome. The plants were getting dry! My friend came over and said: I'm going to give your plants a drink. They look like they're wilting!"
I had to beg her to wait. "I think they're looking droopy because they got drenched in last night's storm!" "
"What storm?" she said.
Oh... it must be nice to sleep that soundly! She's a good person... who apparently has a very clear conscience! LOL!
Anyway... 😀 At least the heat wave broke and we're about 10 degrees cooler now.
Everything looks just beautiful, Tessie! (And -- of course Ken! ) I keep wondering how much longer it might be before some gardening magazine (on or off line) sends a photographer and reporter out to document your beautiful homestead for posterity. They really should!

Tessie, everyone on my block has grape leaves in abundance on their back fences. Nobody has ever seen a grape, though. Is there a secret to having the vines produce fruit? That would be really awesome if we could all grow grapes.
I really do not know .Mine always produces but it takes 7 years for them to fruit

I live in a poor area but more and more are moving out here it’s a very small town the draw is cheap property tax and the lake….I liked it better when there was only 6 homes in this subdivision everyone has 1/2 acre to 10 acres I only got .68 of a acre and wish I had gotten 3 but grabbed up 2 Lott’s back in 2001 when I got them for 1k each…now a 1/2 acre goes for 35k which is outrageous to me but my mother says I have a 1930’s mentality on what things should cost 🤷♀️ I think it’s frugal …got my step kids a half acre 500.00 tax seized and we ferrit out a 2 bedroom 1 bath shell repo for 20k they moved into their place 2 months ago took us 2 1/2 years to complete it so yes if you diligently search and just be tenacious on what your wanting you can still find deals and live simple without owing up to eyeballs in debt so it’s just fine to be poor and frugal 😁
It seems like more and more places (especially in the midwest, Appalachia and the south) are getting "gentrified"! That is so hard on people who have been there a long time! They can get priced right out of their own neighborhoods!

Good morning, Ms. Tessie. Your garden is amazing and very beautiful. I had high hopes for my garden this year. However, the strong, early heat has sidelined me. I just can't handle the heat anymore. Love your vlogs 🤎.
You have been inspiring me for months. We have invested in a pressure canner, jars, lids, rings, Nesco dehyrator and canning tools. We have a water bath canner that was my mamas. I also am going to do my own yogurt. Yogurt for 5 is expensive! Even sharing is 3 a day😕 I want to get rain barrels(we get so much rain here in pa), solar panels, and a composter. My chickens eat food off our table too. They got big butts and we cannot lie😝 We have a lot of work here to do, but it’s happy work 😊❤😊

Pick your grape leaves and make stuffed grape leaves. I make them all the time. Don't waste those leaves.
Was wondering why you don't have a larger garden - not that what you have isn't already big and like you said, enough work for 2 people. It's great you have grapes along the border of your land. You can also use the leaves to make stuffed grape leaves which are so delicious if you can get the leaves before the bugs do. The bugs in MA are fierce this year! We have similar wild berries here but they are wine berries. You can tincture the leaves and fruit, and dry the leaves for tea, which is what I did this year. You are right - bits of this and that here and there sure do add up. Have a great rest of the weekend!
