Having played this game as a child is such a weird an unique experience, only those who shared it can understand. It was charming but at the same time it barely hid its uncanny creepyness... all the random otherwordly things that are barely aknowledged by the other characters (the ghost that sometimes haunts the hotel until you vacuum him up, the weekly alien invasion etc) sets you in the mood for evrything that is to come. The hotel's cellar held the most bizzarre rooms: you had an autopsy room to experiment on alien corpses found in the desert, the cult room seen in the plot, the safe where you could print money, the nuclear reactor, and the whole ass bat-cave, wich was a mistery in of itself. But the strangest one in my opinion was the secret warehouse, a flooded room filled with containers and random shit where you could find the actual Bigfoot just squatting there, as well as a fortune-teller machine wich prints out tickets remarkably similar to the one that invited you to stay and save the city at the beginning. And all of that is just in the cellar, you have so many more things going on... I as well was terrifie to death by the "The Neck" guy, legit scared of him, and I was also a bit creeped out by the one and only unaccesible building in the whole game (wich sticks out because there is just like 5 in total ncluding that one), wich was a wooden shack with tainted windows at the edge of the town. Man, what a trip. It was as haunting and uneasy as it was peaceful and nostalgic. Truly an unrepeatable mistery. It inspired me to write some stuff back in the days
Also, I just remembered that if you mess up with the DS internal clock you get a whole cutscene where the alien emperor goes back in time and the hotel's doorman tasks you with stopping him
Wait.. Where did you find the ghost 😭😭😭 Also yeah, this game just felt very incomplete when it came to story writing. Also there's literally nothing to do when you finish the quests or story line which really sucked
going in the desert freaked me out as a kid; not to mention when you haven't played for month just to revisit the game, finding out every inch of the map is full of alien invaders and broken down lol
now THIS is the sims I know. I loved it. The saloon was where it was at. I apparently ignored the storyline, and just hung out in the saloon and kicked ass at the vacuuming.
I especially remeber being so afraid to go to the desert at night that i'd walk around for about 10 seconds, go back and just never proceeded the mission because it required me to find something there
I played this game so much that I dreamt about it, and now as an adult I cannot tell which memories about it are real because the game is such a fever dream
Glad I found out this game is real and didn’t just imagine it. Does anyone remember like a rat person down the stairs in a room in the hotel? And there’s a giant hamster wheel?
Yes! You can fight crime as a giant rat 😂 and defeat the “goons”. There is a guy who has done a 3/4 hr play through on YT that I watched and it was nostalgic as hell!
@@ammyrobinson9171 o my gosh your comment being recent makes me feel less alone for wanting to look at someone play + talk about this trippy and creepy game LOL
It's so funny, that this Sims game was able to traumatise so many kids (including me haha) instead of real 'Horror-Games'. This game gave me the feeling I was trapped inside a liminal-space photograph. So weird, yet I played it for 300+ hours
Omg, yesss, it truly is a liminal space game. There's nothing like it.... that feeling, especially in the desert, when you run in a corner & can't get any further... or when you're next to the roof top hotel room swimming pool, trying to look into the distance, but all you see is a never ending horizon of blue "sky".
This game has freaked me out when I was a kid. My parents thought they got me a nice cute Sims 2 game for DS. But no. It gave me nightmares hahaha Funny enough, I found the DS card 3 years ago and I finished it. Felt like I became the bigger sister to my poor traumatic younger self
There was actually a mini game with the aliens if you changed the ds clock forward to complete a room and then changed it back, the concierge wooukd tell you you’ve messed with time and the aliens are invading. Also you can apprehend the aliens in the rat suit, but if they spot you, rather than abduct you they’ll beam themselves up to their ship
Weird how universally, kids from all different backgrounds seemed to have played this game and grew to the age where we could reminisce about it on TH-cam with each other.
I can remember sitting in my grandpas room on the floor playing this all night. One of the greatest memories of my childhood. Also, why was it real time? 7 year old me was so impatient!
Pro tip from somebody who sunk way too much time into this as a kid, when you unlock the art studio, the rating system for your art ( which determines its buyer worth ) is randomly generated, which means you can mark BLANK canvases as complete, and scrap it, repeat until it's a rated a masterpiece 😂, then sell it to the people looking at it for several thousand. Beating optimum Alfred, took me googling to beat the last part.
I played this as a teenager. Honestly the graphics are better than I remembered. Such an interesting game this was. I loved messing with the music sampler on this game. One of the things I remembered most! I never beat it. And now I see why!
Wow, I’m just now realizing that your character walked weird after abduction because they were probed.. 9y/o me just thought they went through a lot and needed to walk slow for a minute 😂😂
Yeah it never even crossed my mind when I was younger, this game is for a rather large audience so I guess they had to put some adult humor in there somewhere.
This game scared the crap out of me when I was younger. I still own the game and occasionally play it, but the music is turned down all the way because that alien music still haunts me many years later.
Yeah! The alien invasions with that awfully creepy music kinda traumatized me. It was all I could think of when it was dark. Once when I had to be alone in the apartment for just a few minutes, I felt as tho aliens were observing me from outside the dark window, while my brain reminded me of that music. It was horrible... Very relatable..
yooo it's been years since I saw this game, It was such a fever dream playing this as a child, but oddly comforting. Now I'm back watching it as an adult, and it still is a fever dream 😭
As a kid i didn't even think anything was wrong eith literally a mafia boss in my hotel. A strange drug dealer in the street. Nuclear power. Gambling. A fucking money printer? I just always had this feeling of dread and i don't think i ever finished it as a child lol.. still the best game i ever played even though it scared the hell out of me. And if i remember correctly don't you get sent to prison if your sim falls asleep from lack of sleep? Or was that in my dream? 😭
If you go into your DS settings and adjust the time, fast forward x amount of hours the real in game time would also fast forward. So no sense of waiting.
One thing that always got me, and it even appears in this video, is that water was supposed to be lethal against the Aliens. Yet they can occassionally be seen in the rain and the pool.
I still have the game and play it, the funny thing is that even the way I got the game is weird. Someone left a ds case and card holder which contained literally every single sims game available for the ds in a hotel in my city (which was like literal destiny gifting me since the nintendo ds wasn't sold in my part of the country I live in) and the owners gifted me the case because I had a 3DS. And so i played that game being 5 years old and absolutely not understanding what the hell was going on. Something that's weird is that when I got the game, the saved file that was already in the game had some characters that were "villains" (like the aliens or a literal mafia junkie) in the hotel guests chart, and to this day i don't know how that was possible because I was not able to get those characters in the hotel obviously Also in one of my saved files I managed to get a bug of a missing object quest, in which I grabbed the missing object and I would sell it (it happened to be an expensive object) and it would respawn, so I got a lot of money from that. Sorry for the long comment I just love this game SO much
I honestly thought I imagined this entire game for so long lmao. I only ever played the sims 2 on DS as a kid, no other platform. In recent years I've googled "sims 2 gameplay" n stuff and I was like NAH this is NOT the game I played as a kid bruh. This game gave me nightmares 😭
Omg I needed to get to 27 to finally realize that the walking after the alien abduction was because of his butt 😂 I thought till this day that it was something else like they gave you something, an anesthetic 😅 and you need to accommodate again 😂
Mama hog?? The most obscure person?? You were not playing the game with your heart of going to the bar and seeing her all riled up in need of minigame interaction, but that's okay. I may play again bc of this video if my device allows it
I was just playing this game right now... when I went to the dessert to bury the chest, my character started making out with the FBI agent in the middle of the dessert 💀💀💀
i've recently come across quite a few videos about this game and I love it because I really was questioning myself whether it was real or not lmao but I played it and loved it, but it also creeped me out (I guess I was one of those kids who liked creepy scary stuff)
I played this game “again” recently and I couldn’t get over how short it was! I was honestly super confused when it ended 😭 My prior experience with it was mainly watching my mom and my sister play it when I was a kid. It’s weird how incorrectly I remembered it - for some reason in my mind Jimmy was the main antagonist?? Which is obviously not at all the case lol. Great vid! I love seeing people revisit this game because it’s absolutely bizarre
I understand where you got Jimmy being the main antagonist comes from. When I was younger I never made it past him so he was always in my town and I never knew how to get rid of him.
