In over 60 years I've been on this planet I never realized how sweet and cute sloth can be especially the little baby sloths. All babies are cute but sloths are just so calm and relaxed and have that natural, built in smile thats hard to resist! It kills me everyday when i think of all the defenseless baby animals out there that are orphaned or killed as well as human children. No babies of any kind should ever be harmed, i was a soldier once and proud of my service but the world would be a much nicer place without soldiers and guns and wars and the wasteful violence that does so much harm to all the little ones out there. Humans need to learn to be kind to each other and protect all the rest who cant protect themselves. In the last couple of years ive come to love all the little critters in the world. It started with baby beavers, then sea otters and koalas, and all the poor dogs and cats that depend on us, we dont all speak the same languages or look the same or have the same religions but there really isn't enough of a difference between us to cause all the chaos and violence we deal with on a daily basis i know i wont see it in my lifetime but it would be nice to think that one day we could all live in a better world, so be kind to the little critters and to each other and maybe that could be a start.

Sloths climb down to poop on the ground near the tree they live in so they can fertilize it.

I am really impressed with how calm they are its amazing they aren't big on patients but they must be well kept which unfortunately many zoos don't care for them properly and really have no idea how to treat them. Plus I think they got lucky with a very docile sloth.

There very calm and sweet until they bite you hoffmans in the wild can be very aggressive and these things are very strong its almost impossible to get them off something once they grip it, they are very good with there front hands. But in the wild they are attacked a lot by big cats , large birds and man so they have to defend themselves. great vid!!!

The closest living relatives of the Darwin's Ground Sloth (Mylodon darwini) are the Two-Toed Sloths (genus Choloepus) while the closest living relatives of both the Jefferson's Ground Sloth (Megalonyx jeffersonii) and the Cuvier's Colossal Ground Sloth (Megatherium americanum) are the Three-Toed Sloths (genus Bradypus).

  • @HeyDahai

It would be nice if they could build a better designed enclosure to replace that ugly "cage" for the sloth family

I think I will follow you on this comment. With a lot more space and more a copy of the natural habitat of the animal. It is a well known fact that sloths needs quite some space.

Everything is better in the wild but if they 're endangered in the wild by braking down their habitats and by trophy hunting. Zoo's can play a role against the extinction of the species. The cages are a little bit wat disturbs here.

Most of the time when sloths are in captivity it's because they were abandoned as babies and had to be rescued. As for other animals, there often is no excuse for why they are removed from their natural habitats.
