- As soon as I heard about the Aviarios Del Caribe sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica I knew it would be perfect for the Cute Show. It's the world's only sloth orphanage, home to over a hundred very sleepy urchins whose lives have been saved by legendary sloth whisperer Judy Arroyo.
Sloths are fantastically weird animals, the junkies of the jungle who seem to spend their lives either nodding off or scratching and occasionally eating a bean or two before drifting back to what looks like a blissful sleep.
The babies are especially helpless and comical and I fell in love with them immediately. So I cut a few choice clips together to show my old colleague VBS UK producer Vida Toombs and Cute Show creator Amy Kellner and posted the video on my Vimeo page. To my surprise the clip went viral and was watched by a million people in a week. Clearly I was not alone in thinking that these animals had super squee powers. So here is my Cute Show about the sloths, the perfect prelude to a sneaky daytime nap.
If you fall for these animals like I did then you can join the sanctuary's volunteer programme. Trainee sloth wranglers get to feed the sloths and help exercise and potty train the babies. The sanctuary runs on donations and voluntary help so you can do your bit by helping these vulnerable creatures whose jungle home is being slowly destroyed by pesticides, sold off to US real estate agencies and sliced up by roads and power lines.

I read a dodo article on how horrific this place is for the sloths here. These babies will never be released and they are being tortured in small cages and fed an improper diet. Many die horrific deaths.

The way they show things in these videos and to tourists making them think these sloths are well cared for and happy!!! While they're all suffering in little cages without their native trees and diet and without proper VETINARY CARE!!!

@@carolinevictory1414 I'm so glad you took the time to go through the article. It's horrible. These people need to be in jail, honestly. There are in this for the money, and there is more than enough proof of neglect and abuse of these poor animals. The tourists never see the full "sanctuary" which is a disgrace to actual sanctuaries to call it one. They need to be shut down immediately. Unfortunately they are always featured in sloth videos from massive TH-cam or even nature television channels. These videos need to be deleted and replaced with ones that tell the real situation of the living conditions. As long as these videos exist, people will continue to flock to this horrible place and put money in these people's pockets.

At least just scroll all the way through to see the photos of the horrible conditions and injuries these sloths have and live in until they die. It's heartbreaking and disgusting. This place does a great job of hiding the truth about their "sanctuary."

I have to say this 3 times they have been injured so if they fell out of the tree and not rescued that would die a in few minutes and if they saved them they would be living for about like 1 month so there good

This place is a torture chamber for these poor animals!! Don't be fooled by the "sloth mother". These animals aren't even fed a proper diet and the adults are hoarded in small cages. Many are sick and injured with no veterinary care. Many die from neglect.

This is my dream job!!! Sloths are my #1 favorite animal!!! I’m so happy this sanctuary exist!!! Be safe everyone!!
You do realize that at this sanctuary, they can't take care of all the sloths? They abuse these innocent creatures and still get away with it. They haven't denied any claims from 2016 that they don't take care of them. For example, they don't give them the correct diet, don't give them their space, after they've grown-up, don't let them back into the wild, then they don't cut their nails so they don't start hurting their palms. There are lots more reasons why this place is not a safe or humane place to go to or even try working at. They had a sloth that escaped various times and they wouldn't just let her be free and live her life. They cut down the tree she was in just so they could lock her back into the tiny cage she is forced to live in. Just because one of them was covering her face and it looked "cute", you wouldn't immediately know that she wanted privacy since they don't give her any and because she's stressed out because of her tiny cage. You would see what's wrong with it once you'd start working there. I wouldn't recommend going to work there if you're gonna be led on by lies about what happens there.

I never said I would work @ this specific sanctuary just that sloths are my fav animal & working with them is my dream job. Thank you for the information!!! I want to know the truth about ANY & ALL places that care for animals!!! It’s crazy to think that all the ppl in the vid are ok with how the sloths are treated when they say they love sloths!!! A recent publication by two vets who worked at the Sloth Sanctuary (graphic pictures) indicates that the Sloth Sanctuary is abusive, cruel, and inhumane, and that the sloths (clearly not the ones used in this video) are in a "living hell." It wasnt fake. They have more then they are supposed to have. Which at times i can see that. But they dont get released and they keep more than a few in the bacl out of peoples eyes so you dont see what is going on. I wish it wasnt true. If they are not hurt or sick there is no reason for them to be released. The people that own is the cause and they work with the guy that owns sea world they are family. And he even got busted trying to briing one in to the country. There numbers are good its just there habbit like many others that are in danger and they need to figure out away so the animals can cross over to new habbitat without having to cross the road. There was talk of the goverment taking it over because of what they were doing. Theres another group that does release the animals husband and wife they seem to be ok. You never know as. Much as you want to help give money. Being that there pay is so low and so everything is expensive. To make money of this kind can be a scam for them selves.instead of 100 percent going to the animals
I love them as much as you all do i really hope the money and care gets to them instead of the owner. If they are health enough can be on there own they should be doing that. Instead of keeping them for tours and stays to keep making extra money.

Poor Delilah covering her face has new meaning after reading the 'The Dodo' article linked in a comment below; She's perfectly healthy and has escaped multiple times but they keep bringing her back and locking her up in a tiny cage - one time they found her in a tree and actually cut it down to get her. Horrific.

OMG! I just read the article and this is horrible!!! The video features Delilah... but her behaviour is not so cute and funny anymore when you know that she is perfecly healthy and tryed to escape at least four times.

Wow what a great job and what a great lady. My mom and my brother went to Costa Rica last week and all I got was a lousy tote bag when all I wanted was to visit the baby sloths. But I did not go to Costa Rica with my family. I probably wouldn't come back anyway I was stay with the animals.
