I wonder how they got separated in the first place. Poor baby definitely wanted its momma. I'm glad that she took the time to locate her and wait for her to climb down to get it. Sloths are very shy animals and too see this really makes my day.
The baby fell from the tree and was crying but due to the noise of the beach the mom could not hear the cries. So the rescuers took the baby and checked it and planned to return it by recording the cries of the baby. When the mom heard it she begin to climb down. It took over 2 hours.
If a sloth baby falls down from it's mother, the mother usually won't go down to get it back, since it's too dangerous and costs too much energy. This one was saved from certain death by these people.
The closest living relatives of the Darwin's Ground Sloth (Mylodon darwini) are the Two-Toed Sloths (genus Choloepus) while the closest living relatives of both the Jefferson's Ground Sloth (Megalonyx jeffersonii) and the Cuvier's Colossal Ground Sloth (Megatherium americanum) are the Three-Toed Sloths (genus Bradypus).
I just don't see how that species ever survived. It's so slow moving and thinking it can't escape forest fires. It can't defend itself against any predator. It can't run away from any predator. It seems to lose it's babies easily. It's just incredible it even exists. You'd think they would never have evolved.
If the baby is more than 6 months old it doesn't need to be reunited with its mother. When the sloth leaves its mom after about six months, it adopts part of its mother’s range, continuing to communicate with the parent through calls.
They recorded the baby crying and then played it loudly. If the mother didn't hear her baby's cries because she was too high up in the trees she apparently heard the amplified cries.
It’s the baby grabbing mama and crying in happiness that did it for me!

They actually used to be HUGE animals and were ground moving, not just in trees. But I guess evolution has a funny way of working.

They have a easy source of food and not much predators, they’re so slow that they hardly burn any energy and they’re also well camouflaged.
