  • I'm using the Strongway ATV Log Skidding Arch for the first time. It is rated for 1000lbs and 18" log diameter. I'm happy with my purchase.

I pulled a 21 ft., 19 inch diameter (butt end) spruce with my homemade arch behind my 2001 Honda Foreman 450. A combination of up and downhill. Got it where I wanted it 1/4 mile away. I've used my arch for well over 15 years now, hauled a LOT of wood... ash, maple, hickory, beech, red oak, various birch and cherry, some white pine, and hemlock... love it.

These arches are very handy, another tool in the Arsenal.

What type of ATV are you using? I have one of those skidders also and I've taken out a 10 foot long 15 in in diameter log with a Honda Rancher (400 CC). Your ATV worked much smoother and easier than mine.

It's a Suzuki King Quad 450 AXI. It's fuel injected. It's a 2008 and never gave me any trouble.

I thought there was a chain that supported it as well.

There are chains that come with the arch. I didn't use them in the video.

you are putting a lot of stress on the strap - you may have figured it out by now, but you should be using a chain under the log - there are two hooks on the inside of the arch just above the wheels... you hoist the log up with your winch, apply the chain and then let the tension out of your strap and let the chain take the load... You will break/wear your strap unless you use your chain... Strongway also makes a "rear end" caddy that will lift the other end so the log never touches the ground and you don't get mud on your log and puts less stress on your ATV. Cheers

Yes, I'm aware. That was that first use of the arch and I did not have to go that far with the log. I have a log skate from (Timber Tuff) to support the log on the end. Because it was muddy the friction was low on the end of the log so I just went with it. I had the ATV in low range and all wheels pulling. I'm on 40 acres and pulling from longer distances I will use all features of the arch and proper procedure.
