    Finally! After watching twenty videos about dragging logs, I finally found a guy with the right idea! Every other video shows a perfect way to fill the logs with chainsaw killing sand except for this one. Congrats! Now it's time to head for the shop and get started building one. (probably won't be as pretty red and all, but it won't be expensive either)

    For people that don't have heavy equipment and have a long haul thru the woods where a 4x4 won't fit or super wet ground, this is great. It's specialized equipment for people with specific needs. It's a smart design and requires little muscle power. I like it.

    Now that is awesome. Id o alot of logging some with an atv. That is a very useful tool not like alot of the other log haulers. i thought I invented this but I guess not. I was laying in bed wondering how I was going to get 4 foot in diameter logs out. This system is what I came up with except much bigger for a tractor. I never built it yet but this gave me some ideas. Thanks for sharing.

    While just dragging logs is quicker. I can imagine if you dont want to tear up your trail by constantly dragging trees this could be a good solution. Also allows you to take it on a paved road without damaging the log. I guess it depends on what you need the log for and if you care about your trail or not.

    Great to use for skidding out saw logs you don't what full of mud. Cutting into dirt, gravel and stuff will dull a chain real fast, and mud is not desired when cut into boards. Also is nice that one person can operate it.

  • @pocket83squared

    This is a lovely design. If I may offer criticism, it's that the log is acting as a bit of a liquid load, and thus the setup is probably quite prone to tipping. Such forces might be reduced by first lowering the log's front as much as possible, and then securing it at the center of its cradle, perhaps with a couple of rotating cams placed on either side to act as wedges. Further, adding a removable support to where the front axle would normally be might also be prudent, just so that the load can be rested and secured in the more natural, down, instead of allowing it to swing from above by chains.

    This would be pretty good for someone who isn't cutting a bunch of trees all the time. It may even work for someone who owns a really small tree company.. but even then, you'll mostly be cutting residential trees so you wouldn't even really need this but it is a really good idea. Just dragging the tree will get dirt caked to it & screw up a saw blade if you take it to a mill. Not to mention the drag marks the trunk will make if dragged. I guess it could also do some damage to your four-wheeler too by dragging it. It does seem a little time consuming to use but if you have time, no worries. Anyways, cool video.

      Coz logs are clean going to a sawmill. Debarker will take all that off. The bark of a lot of trees is worse than dirt for dulling blades because of silica.

  • @constitutionalrepublican1611

    This actually is a decent way to bring logs in covertly. In a shtf scenario where power is out and logs are needed you can use a power inverter on your quad (mines a lot quieter than yours) and cut a tree down and trim it with an electric chain saw. Also very quiet.... Seems to me the biggest advantage is stealth, even though its painted red its fairly quiet, it can be made quieter easily. But the price is a bit much, I'll just make one myself for that price, and spend the saved money on more ammunition.

And how powerful of an ATV do you need to haul that log in your video? Also, where can I buy a log hauler like that? What company makes it? Thanks so much!

    Pretty cool for fairly flat land but if you’re getting in hilly areas your ATV won’t have enough power to make it up hills with all that weight.
    My rancher 350 can only haul about three 24” wide rounds 16” long up a 45 degree slope on my atv trailer.
    If I had to buy another ATV it would be at least a 700 cc.

Also when he winch it up the hook should have been placed on the cross member to divide the weight of the log in half instead of grabbing the cable itself. But I know, they are trying to look smart.

      ..+ Jan Clodd LaFront ,, what I meant to say was that it keeps the LOG clean, you are not dragging the log through the mud or dirt, a clean log will not dull the saw blade.

    For the high price tag of this unit, I can spend the same amount of time it takes to get a log hooked up to it simply bucking the log in the woods and tossing the rounds into my small trailer. I can then haul the rounds out of the woods a lot easier, since I can fit through tighter spaces / turns since I'm not towing 25 feet of timber behind me.

      I would think this is more for sawlogs.

      OK, you have a point but tell us, how do you put those rounds back together to make 8-16' lumber?

    • @bigbluegpr

      @@jackbaskin371 Obviously this is necessary if you are hauling saw logs, but I've seen a lot of guys use these for firewood logs also. Totally stupid to use these for firewood, especially since you will just get dirt all o er the log which will then dull your chain. Saw logs, yes - firewood, no!

      I was thinking the same thing hope these aren't saw logs it'd take a month to pull timber to make a load

    Its smart but the way it bounces around must weaken the wood especially in the middle of a long log

    • @dingledooley9283
      @dingledooley9283 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, felling a tree sometimes puts shakes in it but this is fine, look at the stress on an old timber ships mast, all that wind and yards of sail

    • @Sean-hl9tv
      @Sean-hl9tv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dingledooley9283 you also have to realize how many anchor points are on it and where they are positioned you have one on each side and gravity pulling the middle with a couple hundred pound bouncing I understand that a sail boat pole is basicly the same concept but and I'm not trying to say your invention is nothing going to work it was just a concern

    • @dingledooley9283
      @dingledooley9283 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sean-hl9tv that's the reason I mentioned a mast, it is secured only at one end and may experience a ton of intermittent load at the other.
      Timber is tough old stuff is all I'm saying.
