Strongway ATV Log Skidding Arch from Northern Tool in use
I'm using the Strongway ATV Log Skidding Arch for the first time. It is rated for 1000lbs and 18" log diameter. I'm happy with my purchase.

Real world POV view of DR Field and Brush Mower Pro XL30 inch 20HP action
มุมมอง 2.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a real world view of the DR Field and Brush Mower. The equipment was not provided by DR. Nothing set up in this video. Just a man in his woods working. I am very happy with the Mower. It is much easier to use than the old Gravely I had used in the past and much more powerful. It is very well balanced. Anything it will push down it will cut. I pulled a 21 ft., 19 inch diameter (butt end) spruce with my homemade arch behind my 2001 Honda Foreman 450. A combination of up and downhill. Got it where I wanted it 1/4 mile away. I've used my arch for well over 15 years now, hauled a LOT of wood... ash, maple, hickory, beech, red oak, various birch and cherry, some white pine, and hemlock... love it.

These arches are very handy, another tool in the Arsenal.

What type of ATV are you using? I have one of those skidders also and I've taken out a 10 foot long 15 in in diameter log with a Honda Rancher (400 CC). Your ATV worked much smoother and easier than mine.

It's a Suzuki King Quad 450 AXI. It's fuel injected. It's a 2008 and never gave me any trouble.

Great video and helped my purchase decision. This is the first video where I could really see the XL30 push a small tree down and chop it all up. That is more what I'm looking for vs. just cutting down brush. Thanks for making it!

You are very welcome. My aim was to keep it real and help people see what it can do. I haven't made a video yet but I have the chipper attachment as well. I'm happy with both.

Great video! Thanks for the part list in your comments as I needed to find some rope for doing these sorts of things. I’ve been trying, as I have time, to clear our woods out the same. Our property is mostly overgrown now, it used to be a cattle farm 30+ years ago and was mostly clear back then.

Thanks, happy to be of help. The rope is rated to 7000lbs, should do the job for most people.

This is by far the best demonstration I have seen of this mower. Thanks for uploading it. No BS just visual evidence.

I thought there was a chain that supported it as well.

There are chains that come with the arch. I didn't use them in the video.

Be careful with that big tree with the tip missing almost sure it hollow in the middle you start cutting into that and you might just find yourself in a help of trouble I'm no expert either but I do have some experience with hollow trees. Good thing the top is missing less to worry about falling on you when it comes down.

I did fell that tree and it broke up in two pieces when it hit the ground. I have been cleaning up the property and mainly cutting the dead, dying and damaged, that makes every tree dangerous. I am very careful when I cut them.

you are putting a lot of stress on the strap - you may have figured it out by now, but you should be using a chain under the log - there are two hooks on the inside of the arch just above the wheels... you hoist the log up with your winch, apply the chain and then let the tension out of your strap and let the chain take the load... You will break/wear your strap unless you use your chain... Strongway also makes a "rear end" caddy that will lift the other end so the log never touches the ground and you don't get mud on your log and puts less stress on your ATV. Cheers

Yes, I'm aware. That was that first use of the arch and I did not have to go that far with the log. I have a log skate from (Timber Tuff) to support the log on the end. Because it was muddy the friction was low on the end of the log so I just went with it. I had the ATV in low range and all wheels pulling. I'm on 40 acres and pulling from longer distances I will use all features of the arch and proper procedure.
