Hi mr Stam, your products sounds fantastic! My suggestion for future is try compare section bu section as the tambor is different as you already know. Based on this song highs and lows was dominant, upper mids were difficult to compare... but regardless ill be getting 1.

To my ears, with my eyes closed from the very beginning, I actually preferred the Stam when it came to the openness of the low mids. To the point where I could actually tell when the microphone switched, based on that detail. This is something I personally find I am always addressing in the mix, so something that gives the Stam major points for me especially because I record a lot of Hip Hop, R&B and Pop vocals. Then you add the price tag difference and supporting an independent, hand-made gear company, it becomes a no-brainer!

Stam Audio makes the best mic clones on the market. I'm a big fan of the Warm Audio outboard gear, but they just don't nail the mics. Stam really does it. I'm going to just bite the bullet and buy an Neumann U87 ai, but there's absolutely no way I'm spending ten grand plus on a C800G, but I definitely may grab one of these bad boys. They sound fantastic.

There's a lot of comments here that sound like the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons. In good hands this mic can be cost-effective substitute to something that costs almost 10x as much. Anyway the silent consonants on the Stam sound really pleasing.

Camila does a great job here. The Sony has more detail. They sound very similar, but when it switches to the Sony, it's like a layer of gauze was removed. A thin layer, but still the Sony has better definition. That being said, is it worth the price difference? Well, that's up to the individual user. Given how the C800 is utilized in today's music, it would be great to hear a comparison using a vocal with more transients, like a rap vocal, to see how the Stam stacks up in that regard.

    • @alexbreyer6921
      @alexbreyer6921 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

They are pretty darn close to my ears. I'm guessing that if the Stam is ever so slightly less clean transparent, that'd be just fine to many singers. I agree, using this with a rap vocal, or even an RnB vocal, would have been more hitting the target audience for the Sony.

Raw recordings are a bad way to judge mic comparisons because a lot of the reason certain mics are used like the u87, is because of how they take EQ and processing. The Rode sounds "kind of" like a u87 until you start EQing it and then it's game over. I really don't put a lot of stock in raw recordings because most sound bad and muddy tbh. People don't just record something raw and use it like that for obvious reasons, so why are raw vocals being used to compare this? Go to Reid Stefan's channel to hear the differences being pulled out with processing. Raw recordings are near worthless for comparisons because no one buying a C800G is buying it to use the raw recording.

Extremely similar sound quality....but it's almost impossible to properly compare as each line is tonally quite different. I would have much preferred loops of the same line sung into both mics, rather than real time A/Bing. Even so, based on this shootout the Stam knocked it out of the park - anyone who claims there is some HUGE difference between the two is deluding themselves, or falling victim to bias. With my eyes closed I had no idea which was which. I have the SA-87 (an amazing product), and may have get this one some day!

The Sony sounds just a TAD more forward and round... but, not by much.... at all. If I'm cutting a record, neither of these mics is the issue. If I were recording and had access to both of these mics, I would only be tempted to give a SLIGHT EQ boost to the Stam somewhere in the mids to try to get a little bit closer to that presence on the Sony. But... with no knowledge of what the Sony sounds like... I'm keeping that take on the Stam and rolling with it. Not much else is needed on that vocal at all.

Nate I have a Telefunken 251 and I sold my C800G. This mic has a very specific sound and you should not buy a C800G if it’s the only mic you’ll have because it won’t work on everything. My 251 works well in more situations than my Sony did. The Sony is good for a very clean and modern sound. It will show the mistakes of the source very easily. The 251 can also be used to get a modern sound, which I do quite often, it’s just that people see rappers with the Sony and think “Oh, they’re using it so it must be the best mic!” That’s not true and it does not sound good on everything.

I think it really is just an EQ difference. Stam mic clones usually sound 90% like the microphones they're imitating and miss the natural compression thing some of the highest end microphones have, but this one is WAY closer. @@savethefails Generally, if you really want the best (in my humble opinion) clone of 800g, then you need to look only and only at the SA-800G. I watched a huge number of reviews, comparisons of Sony clones and only Stam impressed me. Watch this video again and you will hear how SA is close to the original Sony, they are almost the same. I don’t know how some people heard layer of gauze here, but if you'll find on TH-cam some comparisons like Sony vs GA, Peluso VTB, or God forbid, Slate (LOL), you’ll understand that they are all fucking harsh like a rattlesnake. In all blind tests I did, I knew, where was the Sony and where was the shitty mic, but I can't hear a difference between Sony and Stam, because Stam IS SMOOTH. That’s why Sony is the most popular RnB and hip-hop microphone -because it is bright and soft like butter at the same time (and mix-ready ofc), but it not should be HARSH, this is a sign of shitty mic, STAM is NOT HARSH, Stam SA800 is really hi-end microphone. And of course, forget about Warm Audio lol. Did you even see what their microphones have inside? I recently saw one review and was shocked, it looked like the work of a junior school student (th-cam.com/video/yGVOormJEqo/w-d-xo.html here the wonderful man shows it on 3:15 =). It just CAN'T be compared with the Stam... Just go to Stam FB page and take a look at the pics, everything is perfect and it's aesthetic orgasm. Stam always shows what's inside their compressors, channel strips and microphones because it looks beautiful and it will work great. They even don't need to have high-budget ads like WA, because real professionals anyway choose Stam Audio over WA. And also, for my ears, when someone sings in Warm Audio, it feels like someone is spitting right into the capsule, lol, they harsh! Sorry, but for me Warm Audio is just doing business, but Stam doing hardware for professionals and he puts his heart into it. Just note that if you really wanna buy a Stam's mic, you better order it now, because you can wait for years. I wanted to buy the SA-800 almost a year ago, but it was not available for sale. In Email they answered me that they maybe release a new batch in August, but they only released the announcement of the new SA-800G MKII, which was supposed to ship in January but will now ship in March. Unfortunately, a few months ago I had the money to buy it, but now I have problems with it and I'm not sure if I can buy this wonderful microphone for myself. But to understand that in Stam Audio they make the best microphones you don't need to have them, you just need ears and TH-cam.

I believe that there needs to be an interplay between both systems of the mind. Typically intuition must lead as we start by knowing what we like but don’t have a conscious understanding of. Over time we can try to become more conscious of what we like and do not like. That makes us more consistent over time as we explicitly quantify and qualify things with words and numbers. We learn to dial in a specific compressor or use a particular mic and preamp on a particular voice on a particular piece of music for some character we appreciate in the mix. In truth, only by sharing those opinions or observations do those descriptions become “standardized” within the culture and to ourselves. We may be led by our ears, but eventually we recognize the tendency for the right outcome to reside at a particular location on the dials and faders. Apparently, you are more operating from the gut and have had success keeping your process at that level. Whatever works!

STAM AUDIO. YOU POSTED THIS 10 YEARS AGO ON GEARSLUTZ ABOUT THE CURRENT SA-800 :
Stam Audio : I should clarify before this goes any further that we have not announced a Sony C800G replica.
This is a black version of the SA-47 body.
We have other priorities right now and not a lot of time on our hands.
    Thanks for sharing this
SO. IS THIS THE SA 47 BODY STILL ?

That is correct. We ended up using the SA47 body in black and a new head grille based on the Sony C800G.
