The Pontiac is a 1953. Every Pontiac from 1935 through 1956 had the Chrome bands on the hood. This is why they were called "Silver Streaks". The Corvair is from the 60-64 period.

The truck is a 1980 model. That was the first year of that body style when they took a lot of weight out of the vehicle. Under the truck by the barbed wire you can see all those holes manufactured into the frame thus making it a bit of a weak spot so in 1981 these big holes were filled in. Having leaf springs up front would have been F250/350 4x4 only. The f150 would have been coil springs even in 4x4 form. That is a 351m or 400 engine which is correct for the time

Ive been several times but then again I grew up doing desert exploration. Im 71 have had cancer treatments for ten years and offroad in a 1995 jeep cherokee . Alot of people come to places out in the desert out of curiosity some are not prepared for how rough the roads are or weather conditions it is good that you dont play it up to be a easy trip as it may be for some seasoned offroaders for inexperienced people it can be quite dangerous . Theres still alot more out there to see try going up nearby surprise canyon sometime you may even spot some bighorn sheep. Enjoy

At 55:06 in your vidio the old car is a 50 some model Pontiac Star Cheif you can tell that by the wide band of chrome on the hood.
The motor that's part way under the car should be a straight eight. On old cars like that if they have tail light or park light lences you can look at the numbers on the lenses & the
last two will tell you the year.
But like that one with the lences gone, look at the lence houseing. The last two numbers will tell you the year of the vehickel.

There is a video on TH-cam where a girl was talking about she had to get pulled with a hummer out of that canyon… I believe the winter would be a lot different because the rivers would cut the road up more…Its possible to make it with a 2wd but why risk it? 20 miles of dirt roads and no cell phone service…. No thanks!

@@reverserockettv007 truth ... even 4x4 could get stuck. I'm not suggesting run any 2WD vehicle cuz it does take ground clearance. All I'm saying is it doesn't take strictly 4x4 to have fun out there. I have a '06 scion xB with 2" lift and it does fine. You have to stay on the trails pretty much anyways. I just didn't like how the narrative was 4x4 ONLY. most of the roads out there are hard pack dirt. And yes I'm sure someone with minimal driving skills shouldn't be driving on our city roads as well ... but please don't fear a great camping trip because of it.

Most 2wd cars actually have better off-road capability than trucks I figured that out not to long ago because I took my Corolla up a pretty step hill and I tried to take my truck up the same hill and still had to stop halfway up the hill and put the truck in 4 low and lock the front differential to climb the hill

Yup I've been to plenty BLM places in AZ and NV in my Scion. 1.4L lol. It does awesome out there. 👍🏽 Toyota makes awesome cars. I wish you had posted a video of the car vs truck video. I've only gotten the xB stuck at Pismo Beach. But everyone gets stuck there. 4x4 diesel monster lifted trucks get stuck so I didn't feel too bad and plus it wasn't stuck bad at all. I just dug the wheels out and a neighbor lent me his ramps. I Drove right out lol

the old truck appears to be a vehicle over 1954 due to the one piece wind shield older trucks had what was called the split windshield two piece. Chevy Corvair, a Chevy fleetside 3/4 ton.

Is this some kind of stupid or what ?
Now everyone knows what car thieves have been doing for years after joy riding them .
So , it's a safe bet that these cars are stolen or were at one time been listed as such .
You should have the vins checked out before you do anything .
Even if they are not listed with authorities they might be the property of an insurance company .
