These are interesting but I think you have provided a lot of knowledge on corrosion resistance. What I'm curious about H2 is will it hold an edge for a resonable amount of cutting ? Of course what is reasonable will vary with the user but i have heard the H1 was doing a poor job of holding its edge.
Yes this makes sense too. But it could have also been something unique to the rubber band I first used, which I then changed. There’s always too many variables. Thank you for participating in this mental exercise , I appreciate it.
Thank you for adding your thoughts on this. All of these are possibilities but I would never want to do tests to narrow them down. I really don’t know how people like doing science stuff.
I think so yes. From what I can tell H1 is slightly better at edge retention but not by much and I’ve only tested two knives. In terms of corrosion resistance they seem the same.

Way ahead of you, ha ha:

Spoiler: they’re both pretty terrible. Usable though.
that missing chunk might be an inclusion - impurity in the steel - from making the steel itself or some part of the making it into the blade

rubber band - maybe chemical break down due to salt? --- etching logos - particulate from the machining process is what it usually is I think

after all your experiments do you conclude that h2 is similar to h1 regardless corrosion resistance?
