You skipped the fact the S21 Ultra also has a 4th camera: 10x optical telephoto periscope lens - you can access it in pro mode only - on auto, it doesn't switch lens at 10x...(it just uses 3x and digitally zooms to 10x). You can confirm by covering the lens when you test. Periscope is the rectangular lens.

If the S24U has 200 MP on its sensor while the S21U has 108 MP - then the statement at 4:55 that "the pixel size is bigger on the S24 Ultra" can't be accurate. Fitting nearly twice as many pixels on the sensor does require the pixels to be smaller. Well, unless the sensor on the S24U is almost twice as large - but it isn't, is it?.
That's the thing, it was made to be a beast. So a beast it will be unless somehow they make youtube and twitter more graphically intensive. Treating yourself to a new phone case will make your phone feel more new. It's my mums birthday soon and i do want to treat her to the S24 Ultra as she is using my old s21 plus. I got s23 ultra when that came out because i wanted that feeling of having the new best samsung with the curve screen which is hilarious as now the curve screen is considered outdated. I missed the design of my s10plus so that's why i wanted the s23 ultra to get that feeling of something cool to look at. The s21 plus was nice but the coolness factor wasn't there, it was too safe of a design
Best thing to do with samsung phones is trade in around November. They always run crazy deals. Sometimes its all month, sometimes its just around black friday. I bought an s21 ultra in November of 21 and it only cost me like $500-600. I also "finance" it through my carrier (in quotes because there is no interest or additional cost to do so). Traded in my previous galaxy which was probably a galaxy note 9. Ill keep mine probably until November of 25 since security updates will end in early 2026.
Proof that you no longer need to run out and get the latest and greatest. Samsung from 10 years ago wouldn’t hold up but today’s Samsung phones do a much better job.
Yup, very minimal difference. I used my S21 Plus for 3 years and am planning to get the S24 Ultra. Since this one is going to get 7 years of updates, I'm planning to use it for 5 years. That should make a big enough difference.
@@md.arkanulislamnabil278 from My experience, the iPhone and HTC. Though the HTC only got one OS update back then it still worked. iPhone still worked and lasted me 4 years. It was still working when I traded it in. The Samsung phones I had (Galaxy S2 and Galaxy 3 both died after one year of ownership. So I stayed away from Samsung since. Also someone just showed a short where his iPhone 5 is still working but unfortunately his carrier doesn’t support it.
I've been using an S21 Ultra since around launch. Every year, I compare it to Samsung's latest Ultra flagship, and so far, the upgrade isn't significant enough to consider for the price. I'll probably end up sticking with my S21 Ultra until the wheels fall off. I figure by that point, the S25 or S26 Ultra will be a big enough jump to pick up. If you can get an S21 Ultra for $350 or an S24 Ultra for $1,300, you'd be crazy not to save the money and opt for the S21 Ultra in my opinion. The S24 Ultra is a fantastic phone, but it's not 4x better than an S21 Ultra.
I'm rocking an S21 Ultra and I love it. I see no reason to upgrade atm. However, there are some great features on the S24 Ultra like AI and things like that. The camera's are definitely better on the zoom on the S24. I sometimes use my Space Zoom and 3X zoom. I'll just wait a few more years unless my phone dies or breaks and whatever. Great video!
@jwillwork3683 Kevin's video was quite useful. Not that I was ever going to upgrade without my current phone being still alive and well. :) Thanks Kevin!
Watching this on my 2015 galaxy grand prime which still works, just slow AF and no apps work with it anymore so I ordered the 21 ultra few days ago with an s pen. Can't f'ing wait. The contrast of this upgrade is gonna be wild.
S21 Ultra has 10x physical zoom at 10mp. S24 Ultra has 5x physical zoom at 50mp. 10x zoom on the S24 Ultra is digitally cropped. In my testung, the 10x is better on the older phone at 10x through 30x. AI makes up a lot of the difference, but I personally dont like the interpreted text look. I'd prefer a slightly blurry representation of the text as shown on the S21 side in the comparison in this video.
Make sure you use the 10x zoom on the S21 Ultra on Pro mode....in Auto, it doesn't switch to the periscope 10x lens.... it just uses the 3x and digitally zooms to 10x. You can confirm this is true by covering the lens when you switch zoom levels.
Great content. My wife still has her s21 ultra she uses the supcase unicorn beetle pro with s pen slot. Her phone is in mint condition, and it is still smooth, not as fast as my s23 ultra. It holds its own.
I literally maybe 5 minutes ago, and prior to seeing this great comparison, just bought the S21 Ultra for only $299 from Best Buy in the Phantom Silver. They had several for sale ranging from $299 up to $499 and they actually had a phantom black model 512gb up on sale for only $399! I probably should have bought that one but I was after the phantom silver. Although I already am wishing I would have just taken the color out of the equation. 512gb S21 Ultra at $399 is unbelievable. I wished samsung would have made the phantom silver S21 Ultra in at least a 256gb version also. It's nonsensical that they didn't. 128gb today just is barely enough, if at all. I'm looking forward to receiving it and at $299 it's a truly good device to buy. Great video.
Bought a new S21U in September 2022 when it was on the market for over 1,5 years. I usually buy the flagship of the year before now. They're cheaper and as good as the new ones and actually a bit better since all the issues have been solved by updates already. Other then the battery starting to wear off a bit now the phone is still running fast and smooth as ever. Camera still outstanding too. So I'll probably stick to it for at least a year and perhaps even longer. Might do a battery swop soon though, but I'll do that in the Samsung Repair Center as doing it at cheap, unofficial shops usually gives issues with the entire phone sooner or later.
Upgraded from s21u to s24u with phone provider. However after a week of using it didn't like the square edge design. Found it uncomfortable to hold even with several vases found it too big n bulky. The camera and speed was a bit better but in my opinion not worth the update this year. May wait till the s25u releases and see what that brings
Thanks for this. I am currently rocking the s21Ultra and thought of upgrading to the s24Ultra. I will either wait for the black friday S24 Ultra or wait till next year for the S25 Ultra
I bought my S10 used for less than 300 USD and, after using it for 3 years, am still very happy with it! I think it's not really necessary to buy the latest and greatest!
Loved my S10 plus upgraded from that to the s21 ultra and now thinking to upgrade after 3 years but I think I'm going to keep my one as the S24 doesn't seem to be worth the upgrade. If you were to upgrade I'd recommend the s21ultra as well it definitely is an upgrade on the s10
Used my S10 until the wheels fell off, then got an S21 Ultra. The S10 is a fantastic device and felt like a massive upgrade from my S8 when I got it. If it hadn't basically started falling apart, I probably would have kept it at least a year longer.
Compare the Galaxy S24 with the Galaxy S20. 4 years difference and only hardware change is the SoC and the camera (that too the UW is the same and the main and 3x zoom are side-grades). Oh we also lost 12GB RAM on the base model, expandable storage and box contents. Welcome to 2024. Samsung has found a way to streamline the software releases and made it economical. So no big hardware upgrades despite charging a lot for new devices - we are basically paying for software updates at this point.
To the point you bought one with 7 years of OS updatea and your only hope is to outlive it 😅. I'll wait for the S25 maybe the + comes with a snapdrafon inside.
I would love an s21 with the internals of an s24. Far more masculine, lighter, and utilitarian. The s24 looks like it belongs in a purse. But that's just me 🤷♂️
I just ordered the S21 Ultra this morning; using a 13 Pro & 14 Pro Max started to get aggravating so I figured I’d get me another Samsung for my second phone.
Holy moly, I was going to upgrade to s24 ultra because my battery on s21 ultra is starting to degrade. But now I'm thinking about just replacing the battery. Great video, thx.
I bought a refurbished s21 ultra for cheap and it still feels like a brand new phone 2 yrs on. Literally no reason to upgrade until I run out of storage or if I want android 16 and above.
The s21 ultra has three glass lenses 1X 3x and 10x. I believe you stated the highest magnification lens was 3x on the s21. That was definitely not the case and they went backwards for the 24. Yes 21 sensor may not be quite up to the speed of the 24 but it definitely had the advantage when it comes to pure optics. I still use the 21 Daly and have always been amazed at the quality of photographs and its ability to zoom.
I honestly think the only reason the camera sometimes looks worse on the 21 is due to software changes. Ive noticed on all my galaxy phones that the camera seems to get worse over time, especially with how it focuses. My theory is the sharpening and auto focus software is only optimized for the newer models. They can still take good pics, its just less consistent. Honestly ive noticed it less with the 21 than the note 9 i had previously.
The S21 Ultra also has a 10x optical periscope lens....but for some reason it's disabled in the auto mode (it wasn't when I bought the phone on release). If you zoom to 10x on auto, it won't switch to this lens (it'll stay on the 3x and digitally zoom to 10x). You can still access it pro mode though (can confirm what I say by covering lens with fingers to see it switch). So ye....seems they deliberately disabled one of its main strengths that none of the newer S series have: 10x optical periscope lens.
@elmhurstenglish5938 by auto do you mean the defualt photo mode when you first open the camera? How do you know its not using the physical 10x lens? I still have the options to set it to .6, 1,3 and 10x which i was under the impression forced it to use the physical lenses.
I was early adopter of S21U in the wonderful Samsung exclusive navy blue color, actually not a bad phone, but as European I got the Exynos version and the battery life was simply bad! I switched to S23U after 2 years, and it was a hell of a difference with the Snapdragon. Still have the S23U and it is fantastic.
I love the form factor of the S21U much better. Still makes amazing photos and will get the Android 15 update when it's there. No upgrade needed for me. Speakers are great and so is battery life. Will keep it as my second phone next to my Flip 5 🎉
I like the S21 Ultra design better but I know that many of you guys who do these reviews prefer flat screens on the case guys so I like a curved screen and if I want an anti-glare screen I just get a screen protector that gives me ant-glare
There is no great tempered glass screen protector for the S21 ultra. I've been wasting my money on them for 3 years. The curved screen really hinders the adhesion which is only on the very edge of the screens on the sides anymore.
My S21 Ultra died yesterday, motherboard issue after 3 years of overheating. Exynos SoC ofc. I wasn't planning on upgrading, but now I have no choice, repairing would cost me 530$.
Its what we're supposed to do, wait a few years and buy a flagship for a fraction of the cost. That's the no brainer. 12GB of Ram on the 21 ultra, that's what's future proof.
I am 100% happy with my S21 Ultra, its absolutely the best bang for the buck. This video also confirms my suspicions, and I have NO interest in paying through the nose to get something that's so much more expensive. The S21 Ultra is my daily driver and I have no reason to "upgrade" when the difference is so minor anyway. The ONLY thing that is lacking on the S21 is the pen... but besides that, its a no brainer
had to use note 9 as my main device died this summer again after a year, and note 9 was just laying the for experi enti g with custom os and never really used until this month and the smoothness the screen if i dint know id say its brand new phone. So im getting myself s21 ultra now instead of another midranger device as the quality just holds up so well for these flagships even 6-7 years later.
I 💯 believe companies can make drastic improvements year over year just by software tweaks on devices. Computation photography is crazy and phones like the s21ultra are way over powered for day to day life when they come out. Remember when Samsung reduced 12Gb ram to 8Gb after starting w/12gb in the note 10 plus in 2019 🤨🤷🏽
@@1pk155 i thought u guys were on bout the s21 ultra didnt even see the s24 ultra i dont know about the s24 ultra but my dad has a s21 ultrs and it 128gb thats why i said it l9l
The Note 20 Ultra is still great phone. I know that the s24 Ultra is suppose to much faster. Unless I time things then daily activities feel similar. Also the Note 20 Ultra's screen size a little bit bigger. Samsung nickled and dime it's user. The S21U still had 12 GB RAM on base model but the s22U and 23U decreased the RAM to only 8GB. Unless you are super picky flagships within the last few years are still fine.
I have an s21 ultra which i love but it has an exynos (uk user) given my battery has seen better days im going to use this excuse to get an s24 ultra. I think if I'd had the US version, i would have just got a new battery put in.
If you want the latest phone and not break the bank. The answer is the OnePlus 12. Reminds me of the S21 Ultra with current flagship specs for $700 with a broken phone trade in, any broken phone is $100 with OnePlus.
If I hadn't cracked my screen ,I'd still be rocking my s21 ultra. Only reason I purchased the s24 ultra. I like the flat screen but wished it went with the s21 ultra camera hump. Great video.
The Samsung Galaxy s24 ultra is the best device they've ever made. Of course, with the exception of the design language. It's perpetual right angles and pointy corners are extremely unattractive and make it very difficult to hold. Frankly, it looks like a miniature glass casket. They would be wise to revert to an ergonomic curved glass display and body. For $1,300 you'd think that a company like Samsung could produce a device that doesn't summon up visions of a funeral home. Especially, when there are devices such as the OnePlus 12 that rival it in almost every specification and costs far less. Not to mention, the design language of the OnePlus 12 is far more attractive. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
How much were you paid? These 2 phones are nearly identical except for minor buff to 1 camera, graphics card, and minor speed adjustment. Oh and frame rate adjustment from 120hz to 1hz is automatic, but you only need the lowest settings ALWAYS ON, then switch to highest framerate when you play a game. Is that why I'm paying $1000 more!? Price of 4 Samsung 21 Ultra Does NOT = price of a 24 Ultra.
Just goes to show ya how dumb people are. They are paying $1200+ for the exact same phone you can get for like $250. I actually did buy 2 S21 Ultras for $200 on Facebook Marketplace unlocked. Only change is the processor and you cant tell the difference anyways nowdays they are all fast and smooth from the 845 to 855 to 865 to 888 and ......
I'm just having a dilemma about switching from my S21U to S24U as I can get it for free through my company. But the more I research, the more I find out that there is next to no difference for my use except having s-pen. When it comes to pure specs, the cameras actually seem slightly worse on S24 (except the main camera) and are only balanced out by having more computational power and prehaps better AI image processing.
@@BluntForceBurner I have the same deal with my S21. I decided finally to keep my S21 and wait for S25. I actually prefer the cameras on my S21 after doing a lot of research on the S24 and trying it first hand.
Thats crazy how the s21 ulta is $300 now 😂. I got mines christmas of 2021(right before the s22) and broke mines so i had to replace the phone wirh another one in 2023. I noticed that the first variarion was heavier than the newer one but the battery lasted longer.
nearly 3 years with s21 ultra and have been using the battery protection on maximum all this time. the phone is set to only charge up to 85% to protect the battery. i started noticing the battery discharging noticeably faster a few month ago. So it lasted about 2.5 years with maximum battery protection settings
What are your thoughts!? Let me know down below!
The S24 is not $1000 better and in the current climate, that matters.

fr its the most noticeable thing since i own the s21 ultra and i tried the s24 ultra and the only difference i noticed was buttons
Honestly even the S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra could probably compete against the S24 Ultra. I dont know about the S10 and Note 10 series though.
The moment you said a Samsung with a curved display reminds you of oneplus, I stopped taking you seriously
I feel like the S21 Ultra video looks better up until like 3 Zoom but how often are you literally recording anything further than a 3X?
I miss my s21 ultra, but am curious about switching to the OnePlus 12. I'm not a fan of my s23 ultra
The vibration motor was a lot stronger on the 21U and samsung took a big step back with the 22U and 23U
Upgrading from s21+ to s22 ultra 🥳 built in stylus + 45w charging did it for me.
399 before tax on Amazon rinao.
I got my s21 ultra for 300€ less than a year after release
I’ve been using an iPhone 7 since 2016. I just bought an S21 Ultra. Looking forward to a massive upgrade.
My S 21 Ultra is holding up after 3 years...but I sure want the S24 Ultra 😅
I think samsung should add more updates to their old ultra models, at least 1 or 2 more android updates to each unit
Watching this on my 340€ S21 ultra 256g
Great video, thanks!!
45w charging does work on the s24 Ultra it's called (super fast charger) is displayed when you charge
You're wrong, the S21 Ultra has a 3x and a 10x optical zoom, not only 3x as you were mentioning.
Yes and does come in 1tb - 500gb and multiple ram - 8 and+
Yes and does come in 1tb - 500 gb - 128 gb and ram varies too. 💥⁉️
i have the samsung s21 ultra and i will have it for many years more. Is there a way to replace only the battery?
Any phone service shop. But put an original cell.
Buy a new phone, don't be stingy. You should see it as an investment.
S21 ultra and lgV60 best smart phones ever made
I 💯 believe companies can make drastic improvements year over year just by software tweaks on devices. Computation photography is crazy and phones like the s21ultra are way over powered for day to day life when they come out. Remember when Samsung reduced 12Gb ram to 8Gb after starting w/12gb in the note 10 plus in 2019 🤨🤷🏽
I prefer the s21 ultra and it’s a bargain to get now
0:30 "S24 Ultra only comes in 256" ummm what?? I have the 1tb. 512 also available.
I mean minimum storage 256.
No its 128@@Techninjaspeaks
It's 256GB. Same with the S24+@@UmxrXstar
S21 has 10x optic zoom.. not 3x
It has a 3x and a 10x optical zoom
If you want the latest phone and not break the bank. The answer is the OnePlus 12. Reminds me of the S21 Ultra with current flagship specs for $700 with a broken phone trade in, any broken phone is $100 with OnePlus.
S21 ultra 💪
Just switched and I don't notice difference other than square screen... switched because got a deal but not worth if you have s21u
My 21 ultra serves me fine. I've broken the screen s few times and the bank fixed. It's with me until sometime groundbreaking is released to replace
Samsung s21 ultra fast charging 30 minute 64%
up to date but i feel every update slowed down my phone
If I hadn't cracked my screen ,I'd still be rocking my s21 ultra. Only reason I purchased the s24 ultra. I like the flat screen but wished it went with the s21 ultra camera hump. Great video.
Bruhhh wtf I just cracked my S21 Ultra and I’m just thinking about buying another one for $330🤦🏾♂️
It'll be interesting to compare this to one of their lower priced phones of today like the m series or a series against the flagship of 3 years ago
I got both S21U and A53 and I would suggest everyone to stay away from A series
My S22U is great. Just got it on eBay . Mint 512 Version for 460. Best b4b IMO.
Bought for 900$ and still using it for 2+y, Solid phone
When it comes to pure specs, the cameras actually seem slightly worse on S24 (except the main camera) and are only balanced out by having more computational power and prehaps better AI image processing.
im in the exact same situation haha. I can't decide if I even want it..
s24 ultra will give 7 years of Android updates, huge win!!
@@BluntForceBurner I have the same deal with my S21. I decided finally to keep my S21 and wait for S25. I actually prefer the cameras on my S21 after doing a lot of research on the S24 and trying it first hand.
@@FranticGuitar88 Im upgrading from the s10 plus and 7 years of update with the s24 ultra I wont be needing a new phone for a long time
I bought one for $60 bucks today. Fully unlocked, 256gb, a few scraches, but overall this was a greart deal
Whaatt?? 60 bucks that's a steal man I think it's free lol 😀
Where did you get one for $60?
No comment on the technically inferior rear (selfie) camera of the S24 Ultra vs the S21 Ultra?
Watch on s21 ultra 😊
Thats crazy how the s21 ulta is $300 now 😂. I got mines christmas of 2021(right before the s22) and broke mines so i had to replace the phone wirh another one in 2023. I noticed that the first variarion was heavier than the newer one but the battery lasted longer.
I need s 21ultra
nearly 3 years with s21 ultra and have been using the battery protection on maximum all this time. the phone is set to only charge up to 85% to protect the battery.
i started noticing the battery discharging noticeably faster a few month ago.
So it lasted about 2.5 years with maximum battery protection settings
I still have the s21 Ulta hence why I'm here 😅deciding if should get the s24 ultra. My battery life is horrible now after 3 years
Do it because you expect so many years if your life is short?
there is definitely a big difference between them but its not worth the 1000 $
I'm using the note 9 .I am going to get the s 24 ultra when the no s25 is released
6 months to a yr. the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will most likely be 300 to 400 and when that day comes, I'll be buying it. until then they can keep it.
You won't even get s23 ultra for that.
square? looks like a rectangle to me but what do canadians know?!
i just bought a s23 ultra yesterday cause i dont have enough money for a s24 ultra
21 ultra is so good its the same price as the 22 ultra
I just bought it now😂. Great purchase ngl 35k in india got it almost brand new no scratches.
Where??
@Abhilash_Jena it's out of stalk... probably got it during clearance
If this phone have 7 years why can't a series from the 52 get 5 years why only 4 years
I paid 300 for the ultra because of promo
Be careful of the greenline 😂
The weakness of Samsung oled is, the older it gets the more chance you will get greenline screen
But is the S24Ultra $900 better
No
Ill keep my s21 ultra
IPhones does the same every year too so what😅
S21 Ultra's only problem is overheating. Three years later and I'm tired of a hot phone.
Exynos? 12gb?
