Ford Focus MK2 2009 Heater Quick Fix

  • * UPDATE: After a Summer of not using my heating I recently noticed again that my heating was not working and the cable had developed the same kink, this was a quick fix but just to let people know if you have had this issue you should expect to get it again. As mentioned in a previous comment you can actually perform this fix without disconnecting the stereo which would same time and prevent the need for the security code to be entered.
    My 2009 Ford Focus has had problems with the heating for some time. After unsuccessful trying many any the advised guides online I happened to stumble across the problem and fix.
    I have not seen this fix mentioned anywhere online so I wanted to document it in the hopes that it might help at least one person.
    This fix takes approximately 15 minutes and only requires a Philips screwdriver (and the stereo security code) and cost nothing.
    A documented description can be found at the link below. www.fordownersclub.com/forums...

    You just saved me a small fortune my friend 😊garage said it might have been the heater matrix or thermostat, but I knew from the change in the pressure on the knob that it was gunna something like this. Many thanks for giving me the confidence to do this simple job 👌🏻

    My father-in-law has had this problem for about 3 years and just lived with it. I had some time, so started searching. I came across this video, and within 10 mins it was done and the prob was exactly as in your video.…! It can be done with the radio still attached..! 👍🏻

    Thank you Captain Peg. 2 weeks ago my dial stiffened then "gave way" and I thought something had snapped but would have been the cable kinking. Fixed in 20 mins,

    Thanks Sir, you just saved me a lot of work.
    I'd diagnosed the problem down to somewhere between the control knob and the flap that lets the heat into the cabin, when I saw your video. Lo-and-behold the kink was there - didn't even need to disconnect the stereo to fix it :-D
    So glad I didn't need to remove the glove box, fuse box and half a ton of plastic.

    It's sometimes the simplest things that cause the most problems. I've been on forums before looking for advice and people always seem to jump to the most complicated answers to a problem where in the end it's usually been something simple and if I'd followed the advice off the forums I'd have spent loads of time and money but not fixed the problem. I think some people like to think they know more than they actually do.

      Hope your still around to answer this,how did you do it without taking radio out? Mines the titanium version and the radio won't budge.Seems the metal 'clasps' that the removal keys slide into are broke.

  • @Mark-ij2nh
    @Mark-ij2nh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That could be my problem as the heating dial seems looser than normal and the heater core feed is boiling hot but not getting to the car

    I seem to have this problem now, just about to take it apart. I hope this is the problem anyway! Knowing my luck it won’t be! I’ve had this mk2.5 focus for nearly 3 weeks now and it’s given me nothing but problems! These Mk2’s are sh#t!!! Mk1 was so much better and way more reliable!!!!

    I have a different problem, the air won't blow. It blows randomly now and again and still gets hot and cold. I've changed the resistor and worked for 5 minutes and stopped again. Any ideas?

    • @captainpeg4629
      @captainpeg4629  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a mechanic/technician myself and most of my fixes have been from tinkering around or browsing online, however as you mention that it works sporadically I would be tempted to first check all the quick fixes like assessing for faulty/burnt out connections or fuses. * I would have suggested the heater blow motor fan resistor but you already seem to have covered that.
      I tend to list all of the possible faults I think it could be and then order them from least expensive/least work needed to worst case scenario (yours possibly being that the motor is on its way out) and try to remove the quick fixes from the equation first.
      I'm afraid without further investigating the symptoms and doing a bit of research I can't say for certain what could be causing this. Sorry

    My 2009 Ford Focus Mk2 has a digital aircon console with separate climate settings for left and right passengers.
    The problem is that the heater wont turn off properly on one side when i need AC. Air comes out a bit warm.
    How to solve it?

    Sorry I have no heat it's like a very mild warm breeze if that makes any sense,,not cold and not warm,,,it's like as if something not opening to allow heat in but still I can work the legs, dash,head vents no bother but as for the temp dial in the middle no difference at all,regards temp

      For me and the several other people in the comments this has worked, however, I cannot say for certain that this is the issue you have.
      What I would say though is that this method costs nothing and only takes approximately 15 minutes so it can't hurt to try.
