In the US we always pour in some Marvel Mystery oil. It's a red colored oil that comes in a 1 quart plastic bottle. It usually frees up "stuck" pistons.

That is a CT but not a Postie Bike, there are a few differences, here are some to help with identification.
the postie does not have the high/low range gear box, they have rubber foot pegs not steel, the speedometer was moved out of the headlight so it could be seen with the mail bag attached and the wheel spokes were a little thicker to take the load of the mail and rider.
Where the air filter meets the rack looks quite rusty on your bike, that part of the rack plays a big part in the air flow, if it is not intact as from the factory the carburetor will need bigger jets to make up for the extra air flow

This gives me hope I'll be able to get my 110 fired this weekend! Just picked it up and it's not as rusty as this one. Feeling hopeful! Thanks Andy!

@soapysoaperton I got that 110 fired up and enjoyed it for 8 months. Then I sold it to a buddy who lives way up north. He uses it for going into town on small errands.

It's always a good feeling when an engine comes back to life then is just happy to idle straight away without any carb adjustments :-)

Long ago my dad bought us kids a motorcycle after lots of begging, it was a brand new 1974 Honda ST 90, 3 speed semi auto, yellow color. I didn't realize until now they were only manufactured for 3 years and was the big brother to the smaller CT 50 and 70. ST stood for Super Trail although that is quite debatable to say the least. Never the less it was such a cute bike and we put a much bigger sprocket on the rear to get a better gearing that could have a hope of climbing a steeper hill off road around the farm. I see they are worth a lot now if in good shape for collectors and our bike was in amazingly good condition but we sold it into the early 1980's to a couple in town that he wanted to find a small but street legal bike to teach his wife how to drive a bike and get her license before stepping up to a real street bike. The CT 110 would have been a more capable bike on trails ( couldn't double on it though ) as long as it had the 2 speed high/low range selector as they came equipped with in Canada.

Hi Charles, yes, this one does have the low ratio too! I'm really looking forward to getting it all fixed up & rideable again, should be a heap of fun :-)
Cheers for sharing your story. Andy

Absolutely love your gas can spout!!! Over here in the USA we have SPECIAL spouts that are guaranteed to make you spill gas all over everything. 🤔🤪.
Those old Hondas are well worth restoring 👍👍

1 million percent correct on the ultrasonic cleaner.....I swear a used carb comes out looking like it was new.

To get the bike running you don't need an air filter, or you can just wash it in warm soapy water to get the worst of the mud of it

JB weld if you break one of those float holder uprights/towers or whatever they are called JB weld.

Great video Andy, sorry I've been absent for the past two livestreams, work on the studio got in the way. Top tip to avoid cross threading spark plugs - use car fuel hose, slip the plug into the hose and use it as a driver to run the plug in, guaranteed no cross thread. For diesel glow plugs and small bolts and jets use silicone tubing and diesel spill pipe instead. See you tomorrow on the livestream. Ps, you're awesome 👍

Once l got spark, l removed the air cleaner, shot some brake cleaner in the carb and kicked till it fired. This told me a good cleaning of the carb was not pointless.

I just bought a Peugeot 103 6V and sadly did not have the luck of a spark so due to lack of parts have the interesting job of finding compatible parts for the Magneto! Spark is a beautiful thing to see on a bike that's not run in decades

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I struck lucky again!! I do wonder why these bikes just get parked up & left for dead? Sure, there's an odd bit that needs fixing even for use on the farm but it's not enough to render the bike junk in my opinion....
Good Luck on your next Quest Simon! Cheers Andy

Used to race a ct90 powered grass go kart when I was 11 years old we put a ct125 carb on it, it lost some low end but gained a ton of mid range and top end even had it running on methanol/95 octane and acetone mix one part of it when things got a bit more serious 😆

Hey mate love the video and the time care and effort you put into getting this bike to run but I have to say that they are a very common bike in Australia. I picked one up today for about 100 bucks and I think they sell a bunch of aftermarket parts for them. Mind you mine use to do footpath inspections with about 130kg of water person and iPad😂 so she’s a bit rough and ready

Did the bike come from Southland. The sticker on the front wheel guard is from Ewan Allan, the Honda dealers from Gore.

I wonder if that bike is similar to the Honda CT CT 70'S & CT 90'S and their Simi equivalent trail 70 or trail 90 most definitely looks like it. Issac and John on the youtube channel have many videos of them bringing multiple CT70's & CT90's back to life.
