  • The first of many videos in this Series covering work on this Honda BIGRED 300FW - a very tidy example & built at a time when ATV's were simple & rugged.
In this video we cover various issues with the starting system & how to perform quick & simple checks to identiry where the issue may be. These checks are relevant to most ATVs & Side by sides on the market.
    Enjoy

Andy.....FWIW.....realize that the charging system is designed for the original battery........so if you have a higher capacity battery hooked up....and it is not at full charge....more of your charging output is going into the battery, and system voltage will be lower, until that battery is fully charged.

Hmmm I’d like to know stator output. I also don’t think that Atv came with a maintenance free battery. Dont lead acid batteries charge and a lower voltage?

I’ve never seen a ROPS on a 4-wheeler before in the US. You see similar items on commercial lawn mowers and small tractors that don’t have cabs but those usually also have seat belts. A lot of those ROPS have a way to fold it down when operating under a tree or whatever. Absurd and dangerous to have that on a 4-wheeler.

I'm pretty sure too.....I didn't have the manual when I filmed this one - will do a charging systems check video at the weekend :-)
      Cheers for now Simon

Yuasa is all I use in generators or my ATV as with my ATV being used when I'm at the races as a safety vehicle it must start period and Yuasa batteries last way better than these cheapy batteries everybody buys and then complains about a year later.

So very true Jim. Thanks for your input. I think I'll be doing a charging system test on this bike too as I'm not happy with the voltage at fast idle. Watch this space! All the best, Andy
